Funny story. When my my boyfriend and I first moved in together my cat didn't exactly like him and he never had a cat. Then one day he called me panicing that there was something wrong with her and her eyes where weird. I asked him to describe it and he said that she was blinking very slowly at him and couldn't keep her eyes open for very long. He thought she was having a stroke. I come home and she's just sitting there smiling at him. Lots a slow blinks, so much happiness.

I've been using Jackson's tips for a couple of years and I've been able to tame down FERAL cats with this in order to save their lives! To date I've saved SIXTY CATS! So a huge Thank You to Jackson for helping me with one of my proudest achievements! When a wild cat allowed me to pet her for the first time it was after I had been practicing the slow blink for 2 weeks and she came closer and closer. Then when I had my hand out she crossed the last few inches and bunted my hand, as she realised it felt nice to get scratched behind her ears, and started purring, I cried like a baby, lol. It's really wonderful to connect with an animal.

Something I noticed about the hand thing, especially in animals that have been abused... they will generally be less aggressive if you approach them with your palm up, instead of the back of your hand up. It's easily explainable because abusive owners (obviously) hit their animal with their hand turned with the palm down. Having your palm up (as if you're offering food) gives a much more passive approach and animals like it better. I just thought I'd share. :)

Rokusan Sangen Exactly. I've never owned a cat or had experience with them but I recently discovered a mother and a litter of four kittens in my front garden area. They're about 4-5 weeks old and are still nursing. I was able to instantly connect with the mother which I believe to be a stray. In order to earn her trust and display affection I began feeding and soon began approaching her with my palm up and my middle finger slightly poking out. She will sniff my hand and soon push her head across my hand. This is the cue to pet her. Since my family and I have taken care of her over this past week, she has let us hold her kittens and get them comfortable being around people. At some point we would like to adopt two of the kittens and give the other two to close friends in order to assure a safe home for them. Animals are amazing.

Damaged Goods Cats are extremely simple to take care of, even more so then puppies. Puppies have to be trained, kittens don't. :) For the litter, most cats will only need to be shown the litterbox and they will automatically go do their business there. They are clean creatures and will want to bury after going, so they will automatically associate the litter box's sand as the perfect place to go. As for toys and scratching posts, it all depends on the kitten really! They are like humans, all so different from one another. Health-wise, cat toys from pet shops are usually very safe for kittens. I'd suggest buying balls that are large enough : no choking hazard and it won't break that easily. As for scratching posts, any will do. I noticed cats like climbing a lot though, so if you have enough money to spend and enough space in your home, buying a little scratching post castle is definitely money spent well. They adore things like that. :P I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. First, you found them with the mother, so the mother is going to go far to take care of her young ones AND you have more than one kitten, so they will become very social cats : they will be used to have other animals around and playing with one another is going to be good for their development as they grow older. :) If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate. :P I've had 4 cats in my life, 3 of which I raised from kitten stage to adult.

Everytime im about to pet my cat to greet him when i get home, i say "hey fluffy!, i love you, hi baby" in a smooth voice. He then approaches me and stares at me, so then i present my hand slowly, he rubs his face on it, then i pet his head. Then i kneel down and say "come here baby, can i have a kissy?" And i close my eyes a little and put my face close (but not pressed on) to his face. If he's in a good mood he'll give me 1 or several nose boops and rubs his face on my face. If he's not in a great mood he'll give me a quick nose boop and meow. Usually its because he's thirsty or needs more food :) always build trust with your cat

I work Maintenance and you would not believe how this has helped me. Going into someones home and i see a cat and they are scared and nervous with me entering without there owner around i have used this and later when i return there cat will come to me while i am working on whatever and lay close to me until i have an opportunity to say hello. it is Amazing that there "asshole cat" shows me love and affection with scratch marks all over the owner. I had the most amazing experience at the zoo. A huge white male lion gave me the "I love you " blink and bow TWICE!!! My fiancé saw it too. We were completely in awe! my auntie has a cat that randomly turned up on her door step and moved in with her. the cat has been living with her for at least five years now. we have absolutely no idea where this cat came from. it did however appear days after my grandmother passing away. (my aunties mum). maybe some spiritual goings on with the cats appearance. the cat is somewhat reluctant to let anybody other than my auntie stroke it or go anywhere near it. I am a really big big cat lover. always have been. I have some kind of natural understanding with most cats. my aunties cat was upstairs laying on her bed when I went to see it. I crouched down to be on the same level as the cat. didn't want to stand over and scare it. I gently blink my eyes as Jackson says. I slowly reach my hand out in order for the cat to get a smell and an idea of who I am and that I am friendly. within seconds the cat moves forward and rubs her head all over my hand before rolling over and allowing me to give her some much needed stroking and tickling. my aunt could not believe that it allowed me into her comfort zone. apparently everyone else gets denied and is bitten or scratched. the eye blinking thing I had originally read about in the early 2000's. I've learned soo much from Jackson. love this dude. amazing guy. God bless people like him for helping cats and helping us humans to understand cats. x

When I worked for PetSmart, one of the things they taught employees was how to greet pets that came in. Granted, I already knew it from years of owning dogs and cats, but it's important for people to know. I never just run up to an animal and try petting them, I always let them sniff my hand first. With cats, I usually just extend one finger and wiggle it a bit, so they don't get the impression that I'm about to whack them. And I don't stare directly at them (or dogs) while doing it, either, so they don't feel threatened. It's like learning a new language, in a way!

I can see my cats feel something, call it love confidence or whatever but they are extremely affectionate to me the family and my dog. I can see they get stressed at our absence too. While I don't think animals are sentimental like some humans I would not go as far as to say they don't know what love is. OMG, Jackson I love you. Two days ago I adopted 2 cats. One is quite shy and reserved. But she already began coming out of her shell the second day. I've been doing the slow blink for years, but I tried the how-you-doing and the handshake. I was STUNNED! She slowly came closer and then completed the handshake...pushed her nose into my finger and continued rubbing it up her forehead and all the way back. WOW!! So I began giving her under-the-chin-scritches and more pets and then I kneeled down close to her and SHE RAISED UP AND PUSHED HER NOSE INTO MY NOSE. This all happened in the space of about 3 minutes. I am amazed, considering she was so traumatized by the ride home and she didn't come out of her carrier for several hours. I still have the hurdle of introducing the 2 cats, but with your expert guidance I am hoping all goes well. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Fun thing that happened between by boyfriend and his cat, he went out in the garden and his cat was lying on it's tummy in tall grass. As the cat noticed him approaching, his cat kinda nodded his head in the "come here" motion and my bf decided to lie down beside his cat. Thank you for your lessons. My cat demonstrates that she knows 101 words and/or phrases. I have been trying to learn her language and am trying to teach her mine. I use the techniques that were used to teach KoKo the gorilla sign language. Koko knew the words "bird" and "water" and when KoKo first saw a duck, she signed "water bird". My cat knows "paw" and "cheek" and when she heard me say the words "paw cheek", she rubbed her cheek with her paw. No I did not make any movements for her to copy. I recommend anyone who wants to teach (not train) a cat use consistent words/phrases in a calm voice. Repeat often and reward with petting, not treats. Simplify the number of words by using "box" for all rectangular or square items (boxes, drawers, closets). She can count to three. Crows can count to seven, so Muffin should be able to count to seven. We're working on it.

The "how you doin' love you" works wonders on my cat. When I do that she usually comes running to me, tail upright, mrowing all the time, head bumping for cuddle. It is the cutest thing. When she is in a bad mood though, she just stares at me like "you blind or what? You aint getting MY attention today"...she is the best! I actually didnt know this was a "terminology" I figured it out by myself I guess. I was around cats since I was a kid so that is probably why. Great video, thank you for all the cat-info

Honestly---been following Jackson for a few years and these things TOTALLY work. My boy can be aggressive when life throws him curves (and never has been his fault), but these things work. Every time I do the "I love you" slow blink, he will do it back. And after 2 or three times he comes and crawls onto me, purring and head butting. He will want me to rub our heads together for a moment, will give me a kiss, and lay in my lap. Seriously. Whatever he is doing he will stop and come over for "loves" whenever I slow blink at him. I love my boy and I love Jackson for helping me to communicate better with him!!!♥️

My cats communicate several things to me They have the "feed me" blink, and the "feed me" meow, and the "feed me" paw tap and toe bite when I'm asleep in the morning, and the "feed me" leg blockade if I dare go in a direction other than the food dishes, the "feed me" jump on the TV stand and threaten to put their paws on the LED TV screen and drag them down the screen if I don't get up off the couch, and the "feed me" knock things off tables if I ignore all the other "feed me" signals.

But I remember laying down next to my mom's cat over 10 years ago (said cat finally passed in January 2019 at 20+ years old) but anyway I was laying down next to her, she blinked at me, so I blinked back, and she immediately reached out and one of her claws got stuck in my eyelid. Lmfao. She was just playing. I didn't even freak out because she pricked my eyelid so lightly, although her claw was stuck until I removed it. Her name was CC and her and I were so, so close even until the end of her life recently. My mom passed 9 years ago so it was nice to have her kitty here with me for all this time. Jackson you’re the best. I’ve been following you for some time. I had to take moms former feral into my home after she moved into a new place where he wasn’t accepted. I really expected to be shredded he was not open to anyone but her. I had to be patient and pray I would not lose too much blood. Your techniques are a success we now share trusting time together. The cat "I love you" works with scared young puppies or gentle dogs. I have used it for fosters both cats and dogs. Now more fearful dogs of a year or older it doesn't work very well for me but that's when I go to what the dog whisperer teaches or somethings I have seen on pitbulls and parolees. Or what I have learned through my animal lover life. But I do want to thank you for teaching me about the slow blink and how to hear what they were telling me that they needed. all you have shared has helped with my fearful hiss pots and helped them find forever homes.

I saw this four year old video just today and I felt like kindred spirits when you pulled up Anitra Frazier's book! I've been doing the cat I Love You slow blink since the early 90s when I bought her book. The blink has always served my furry littles and me well.
