Thank you to everyone for your kind words and wishes. Today’s episode was bitter sweet. It was such an epic adventure and so many good memories made. It was also the saddest day of my life, lil Spud ingested 1080 poison on the last day and sadly didn’t make it. For those of you who have dogs and take them camping, please be aware of this poison. Make sure your dog has a muzzle so he can’t eat it and keep him close. By the time Spud had got to it, it was too late. We called a vet on the satellite phone to seek emergency first aid advice who told us there was nothing we could do. The poison acts by blocking enzymes that send energy to the cells and slowly vital organs stop functioning and the animal starts fitting. He died in my arms not long after. I wouldn’t wish this on anybody, it was the worst thing I have ever been through seeing my best mate go out like that, so please take care with your dog out there. Below is his eulogy..: “It’s with a heavy heart and unbelievable sadness that I had to say goodbye to my best mate this week. Gone But Never Forgotten SPUD 01/09/2005 - 15/09/2018 You were my best mate and touched the hearts of everyone who knew you and you were so good with the kids. I’m going to miss having you by my side, but know you will always be with me in spirit. I know right now you’re running amok up there with the angels and chasing balls. Love you forever my lil Spud. Dad😢”

Don sorry to learn of your mate Spud's sad passing, my sincere condolences. Pets are often very much part of one's closest family members. To Amalia Ronny & Don, thankyou for the edits/clips on Spud, and this fitting tribute to a great member of the team on this series. I think I'm going to re-watch this one. Always appreciate the quality production from quality videography, and all the skill dedication and thought put into these adventures. Especially appreciate the "expose' " revealed via drone footage. Takes us on a higher level of understanding this Great South Land, this Continent of continual surprises wonderous beauty serious struggles-of-the-past (as well as present). Done well guys, thankyou. I was going to hold off watching this until later; but "couldn't wait" :)

The final chapter to this rollercoaster story (real story not a fake scripted one). So what happened to Spud? Well sadly he ate some 1080 bait and died within a few hours on the last day. A very sad and sobering end to the dangers of 1080 bait poisoning. For the record I did warn Don of the possibility but after taking him to plenty of places with it Don felt he'd be able to keep him away from it and we also thought the same. It's not until its too late you really understand the true dangers. The 4 of us buried Spud at Skull rocks and there is now a plaque in his name. We all went back to visit the week after. R.I.P. Spud He had a good time on this trip, Don says Spuds best trip but his last one... Sorry to end this on a sad note but thats how the story goes. not a fake scripted make it look

Funny thing Ronny, was just thinking while watching the video that it would be good to educate the viewers from overseas ( and many Australians actually) about the aspects of things which are unique to Australia, like 1080 for instance. Not too late.

Great series but a very sad ending with poor Spud falling victim to 1080 after the trip. A particularly cruel poison that has been banned in other countries due to the suffering it causes. The bush is no longer a safe place for your dog, everyone with dogs needs to be very aware that the baits can be just about anywhere as they are sometimes used illegally and can also be moved around by birds etc. Animals that die from eating baits are also a secondary source of poisoning.

Geez mate, sorry to hear about Spud, I didn’t know about that when I wrote my comment on episode 4 warning of 1080. It’s bloody terrible stuff, and why I believe the government should allow permits for Recreational Shooters to control wild dogs, rather than dropping non-selective baits. Few uneducated, harsh comments, but it’s not the first, and not the last as baits taken by domestic dogs are mostly secondary. Just ask a few of the locals in Cue. Good show as always, looking forward to next year.

RIP Spud. You looked like a great little travel companion. Out of curiosity, is that knife that Ronny is carrying from Scandinavia? First of all I would like to say RIP SPUD and my deepest and most sincere condolences to Don. As a dog owner and lover myself I travel with hesitation now days due to this horrid 1080 disgusting suffering inducing death poison. Unfortunately I also find it very sad that people take this opportunity to attack others and even Don for giving his beautiful SPUD a chance to live the real life outside of the suburban backyard. I personally think the negativity is directed in the wrong direction to the wrong people, dogs dying of poisoning is a very emotion filled situation and I think directing this energy to the powers to be to pressure them into eliminate poisoning totally and stop playing god with pain suffering. As previously mentioned professional hunters would be a much more humane way of control. For those of you that think 1080 is harmless to native wildlife I say I have seen real life evidence proving this theory to be totally incorrect. Again I say RIP SPUD and my deepest and most sincere condolences to Don. . . . When you help improve the lives of those around you, you improve your very own environment..... Peter Ruwette
