The only thing I like about the Jazz/Nuggets trade is it would be taking a chance on a player's potential much like OKC did with SGA. I'm a Jazz fan and the fanbase thinks the OKC rebuild is something the Jazz could emulate, but they shy away from trading big names for potential, which is what OKC did with George for SGA. I would rather the Jazz trade LM while he has peak value - AND - not just getting more picks for the sake of saying "look at how many picks we have" and then not develop those players. I think they could get a better deal for sure, but I'd rather get talent/potential talent to develop rather than trade valuable assets for Pick 29 like they did this year.

The NBA needs to make a Stepian rule 2.0 The amount of first round picks being traded or speculated on in trades is going to put some teams in the gutter for a decade. Phoenix for one. The Lakers if they go all in and drop their last 3 owned picks in a trade to get one more year of contention for Lebron. The league has a vested interest in keeping teams from being in the toilet for a decade straight. There really should be a max 3 first round picks or pick swaps, even if you own other teams picks involved in a trade. None of this 3 picks, then 3 swaps. Honestly you could probably get rid of the original Stepian rule with just a limit on picks. Trading 3 picks spread out over 6 years with the original rule isn't a great idea either.

The new CBA fixes much of this. It's going to be very hard to pull off trades going forward. 2nd apron teams can't aggregate salaries, all teams over the cap must match dollar for dollar with trades, and I'm sure lots more to keep teams from unloading too many picks through trade. Players won't demand a trade if their agent tells them their desired destinations aren't able to trade for them. I expect this to eventually rejuvenate the UFA market. But I'm with you, it's gotten out of hand.
