Dreams had taught me so much over the past year, I decided to switch to Ue5 and it was a pretty smooth transition bc of the visual scripting ue5 has. Dreams gave me a solid foundation to build off of.

Same here. I found I wanted to develop a game I could sell eventually. I looked at Unity and UE but despite the positives of Unity I went with UE because of the BluePrints. Dreams was a great learning experience.
@AdamsOlympia Жыл бұрын
What particular skills did you find transfer over to other environments? I'm late to the party, just having ordered my PS5 this week. Primarily sold on the console by the prospect of what I can learn and do in Dreams. I have zero skill in anything but music production though, so starting at ground zero for everything else. It doesn't look like any other creative environment approaches 3D modeling like Dreams' sculpting, but I imagine the basic skills of starting with basic geometric shapes will transfer over. I wonder how much of the modular logic programming will transfer as well?
@shawns4354 Жыл бұрын
@AdamsOlympia Game design, logic flow, work flows, and organization skills. But mostly game logic. The Gadgets are very similiar to Blue Prints in UE. Knowing what kind of processes and mechanics make certain things happen is what I learned most. 3d modeling is very different from sculpting in practice but very similar in the fact that you will learn alot about the art side of game making. Learning UE I was constantly saying to myself, "Oh! That's just like the trigger zones!" Or something else that was relatable.

Something that really helped me when creating stuff is knowing that I don't have to use every single tool that the game gives to me to make something great,for example I'm not very good at making music and I have no real interest in attempting to understand it so I just grab a theme from the search engine that I like and use that,that may not work for everyone but I'm happy with the way I'm doing things

Nice video ! I actually played a few of your games over the years in Dreams. If it is possible... you should make a multiplayer version of one od your FPS games. Even if it's just 4 v4 or 5 v 5. Even if it's just something akin to "Frontlines" on Roblox. Or Combat Master on mobile. I think a lot of people would jump in and play it. In any case, great job on all the games you've made thus far ! & the templates you've made for the community to utilise !

I really have no idea on how do make ennemy ai and i have 800hs on dreams. Just logic in general i can't lol. I'd like to make a Rogue Lite procedurally generated like Isaac, a shooter looter like Borderlands, a turn based game like Dofus, a Souls-like. The point is, i can't make anything work. So everytime, i make maps using the community's assets, try to make something work for weeks fails, reset.

So why not just switch to unity/ue5 full time? I feel like your skills could shine even more in an actual game engine.
@intrattackout Жыл бұрын
In theory, yes, in practice, no. You can technically achieve way higher quality in a real engine but developing in Unity/Unreal means developing 10x slower with 10x less access to assets in an environment that's 10x more hostile. If I were to move, I'd only be able to release something every few years instead of months. And probably to an audience of 10 instead of 80.000 😏 You can look up 4 year anniversary videos of real devs and you'll see that things really don't get more advanced than a bunch of prototypes and (relatively) simple 2D games. There's a reason for that! On PC you need a team to create the kind of games I want to create.
@adamfifield6983 Жыл бұрын
@@intrattackout I am entering my second year of game design in uni, I don't agree with you because there is a ton of online support for unity/unreal, not to mention ai support such as chatgpt. I only use unity but In a year I learned how to rig characters, create animators, animate with mocap, learn particle systems and other things. I can link you my first year game if you'd like, I think you are overestimating how difficult it is to work with unity, its a very simplified viewport similar to dreams. Not to mention, my other first year classmates created things far better than "simple 2d prototypes" some of us had full games by the end of second semester. These by the way are mostly people including myself who had zero prior experience in game dev or unity engine. I understand what you mean though, I've watched your videos and I think you have a lot of passion and talent for game design, switching to an actual engine with live and ongoing support would be a lot better for long term its just a recommendation though, love what you do!
@shawns4354 Жыл бұрын
I'm making a cozy game in UE5 with just myself and wife. Not impossible but I understand your concern with the type of games your making. It just depends on your scope. Also selling a game is a lot of work. Your already a foot up with YT and your community.
@intrattackout Жыл бұрын
@@adamfifield6983 That's fair! I have actually started to learn Unity on the side and I do enjoy programming in it so far. Sorry if I came off hostile btw, but I have very carefully considered the way I interact with Dreams, and ever since Dreams launched I've had to defend my standpoint from inconsiderate devs who think all problems are solved by opening Unreal and getting gud. They think real engines are better in every way, where I see myself being worse off in a lot of aspects besides potential for a career. I can best put my opinion like this: I make games because I want to share them. Money would be nice, but sharing my vision is really what's most important to me. If games are art, I'm an artist, and I choose the tool that get me to my goal quickest with the largest possible audience. Dreams is like the beginning days of KZbin, while Unity is the traditional cinema. Why would anyone make videos for free on a platform when they could be making movies releasing in cinemas? To a professional this would've sounded silly, but to someone simply caring to entertain people, the KZbin road is clearly better. Most people don't become Hollywoord stars. Anyone can be a KZbinr. Most people don't become high level game directors. Anyone can be a Dreamer. As my aspirations grow I'm just certain I cannot make the games I want to make in a traditional engine in a decent timeframe. I will probably switch to full Unity at some point, but I think you'll understand that I don't feel encouraged to leave behind my very fortunate position to start from scratch in a way more competitive environment!
@itsJDarts Жыл бұрын
@@intrattackout Great comparison with KZbin. There are millions of people on unity/UE it's fine. It's still worth something to be the best at dreams. We hold regard for people that master other video games and don't tell them to go outside and do the real activity because there is value in mastering that specific sandbox. Unity/UE aren't going anywhere but this moment of time where Dreams is relevant will only last for a moment and there is value in being the best at that thing while it existed
