Straight outta Arakkis. Look into Frank Herbert's 1965 Sci-Fi classic "Dune". 40k lore is heavily inspired by it.

Back during 40k's Rouge Trader days ( the games 1st version ) GW admitted that the storyline was indeed influenced by Frank Herbert's DUNE, not just the navigators but w/a God Emperor ruling the galaxy.

I was going to say, sounds like the spice addiction. Only their eyes aren't blue but black. I've read all the dune books even the ones his son wrote. Frank herbert lived a 45 min drive from where I live. Think it was 18 books, but don't quote me.

I think it would be awesome to have a Navigator become a Grey Knight. It would make an really good Prognosticator. A 40k fix for the Navigator deviations and malformations would be to give them one of those Magi Biologis familiar that attaches to them to repair and take on their aberrant mutations.

QUESTION-Does every ship traveling through the warp need its own navigator? If so, that would mean that each navigator family would be larger than pre-heresy marine legions.

in our black crusade we are without a navigator. one of the players character wants to kidnap one but the smarter among us agree that we should try and have one join us willingly due to the fact that our characters believe they are powerful psykers and that if they wanted to they could lead us into potentially deadly situations.

owo i just wanna know how many there are and what it is that they provide for the rest of the empire so that i can either write a few small spoofs or write one long epic about a small rouge trader ship that happens to have a few mutants in it's crew

there are. Afriel Strain. clone soldier from the greatest heroes of the empire. they are skilled but are extremely unlucky, despite great success early in a war they always get wiped out to a man. they have pale white skin and unease other soldiers Felinids (Homo sapiens hirsutus) Felinids are endemic to the Imperial world of Carlos McConell. Whether this is due to the particular biological requirements of that planet, prior genetic modifications made to a human population during the Dark Age of Technology or prior Imperial regulation is unknown, but they are virtually unheard of in the Imperium at large. Felinids are humans who have had their genomes spliced with genetic sequences derived from various species of Terran felines, and they possess many felinoid traits, including a light covering of fur over their entire body, extended canine teeth and superhuman agility and grace The Longshanks, also known as Homo Sapien Elongatus, are a recognized strain of Abhuman within the Imperium. These Abhumans have genetically adapted to habitable worlds with particularly low gravity, and are tall, elongated and emaciated. They find it nearly impossible to survive on worlds with gravity heavier than what they endure on their homeworlds. , the Longshanks are bald with very pronounced eyes and have unnaturally long legs, when compared with baseline humans. Neandors (Homo sapiens hyannothus) Descendants of the original base-line human colonists of the world of Hyannoth IV, the Neandors have adapted to the particular ecological demands of their frigid and high gravity homeworld. These adaptations, which include hirsutism and a much more robust skeletomuscular system, however, prevent them from leaving Hyannoth IV easily. As a result, Neandors are virtually unknown to the wider Imperium. Nightsiders are Abhumans who live out their lives in near or complete darkness on worlds that either are so far from their primary star that little or no light is shed or planets that do not rotate and so one side is always facing away from the sun. Nightsiders may have developed larger eyes than a normal human, almost bulbous; others may have vestigial eyes with their other senses greatly enhanced to compensate for the near-blindness. The imperial guard uses them as night fighters some times. Pelagers (Homo sapiens oceanus) Pelagers have either evolved or were genetically altered during the Dark Age of Technology to live on Ocean Worlds, those habitable planets of the galaxy almost entirely covered in liquid water. They possess a set of both gills and lungs, and other adaptations for an aquatic lifestyle such as webbed hands and feet. They are a common sight on such worlds of the Imperium, but virtually unknown everywhere else. Scalies are a mutant strain of abhuman found in the underhive which have stabilised over time, although there is still a lot of variation, and are not as stable other abhumans found in the Imperium, like Ogryns and Ratlings. Scalies are massive reptillian mutants almost as broad as they are tall. Their durability and strength are legendary among the people of the Underhive and have a fearsome reputation. Like some reptiles they have the ability to regenerate lost limbs and their thick skin acts as a natural armour. They are rarely seen but it is said that they are by far the most numerous denizens of the Underhive. They are undoubtedly intelligent but seldom speak due to their twisted mutated necks and voice boxes having changed beyond the ability of normal human speech. So little is known about their origins or if there are hidden clans or tribes of Scalies in the most severely polluted badzones in the Underhive. They are mainly found in the employ of Scavvies. Why they choose to work along side them is unknown. No Scavvie Boss or King worth his salt will be seen without one or two Scalies in their gang. When fighting they often use close combat weapons and discuses or throwing axes. They are also used as heavy weapons men by Scavvies using portable bolt throwers called Spear guns or Scatter Cannons, a large form of blunderbuss. Troths (Homo sapiens verdantus) Troths are endemic to the world of Verdant, and unable to leave it due to their particular adaptation to it. They are virtually unknown to the Imperium at large. (Going to be honest i found little on them fan art makes them plant people don't know if that is cannon) Ill make another post for the more common abhumans/ mutants groups they have a lot more lore. I suggest looking at a fan created "Rogue trader Abhuman Character Guide" I got a bunch of info from there but did not lncued the noncannon here. warhammer 40k wiki and lexicannum are also a good place to look. I wish they expanded theses groups more.

O-O... wow that is more than i would have thought the imperials would allow to live... owo but seeing as how you brought up the Felinids i have to ask... owo are they like what the "if the emperor had a test to speech device" shows them to be? or are they basically like furries?
@RachniThane8 жыл бұрын
the next groups are more common and you should be able to find them on a warhamer 40k wikior lexicanum Ratlings (Homo Sapiens Minimus) The Ogryn (Homo Sapiens Gigantus) Squats (Homo sapiens rotundus) Beastmen (singular: Beastman) (Homo sapiens variatus)

Navigators, calling beam weapons "lasguns", plasteel, the men of iron's revolt in the dark age of technology that leads to the outlawing of artifical intelligence (see: Butlerian Jihad), and even the title of "God-Emperor" being bestowed upon a man with powerful psychic abilities and a knack for military tactics. References abound. Still enjoy both though.
@Sliceofpi8 жыл бұрын
Well it's not exactly like Dune. See in Dune the Emperor was smart enough to know that when you want totalitarian rule you go with religion not against it. The only thing about 40k that I can find that is truly unique is the genetic fluff for the separate legions. Unfortunately that's the one thing mist are willing to bend or toss.
@Sliceofpi8 жыл бұрын
+Nick Ketzel (Mouse) You forgot the religious order if women. Legions raised with them and hypno treatment on death worlds. Preciant understanding that there is only one path that doesn't lead to human extinction and that the one who can see it must lead humanity to freedom. Super trained and modified assassin guilds. The ban on AI leading to the use of lobotomized humans as make shift computers. That psychic abilities can cause posestion. Truth is though that ragging on this stuff is like harping on a fantasy writer for sounding like Tolkien. The idea that the Emperor meant to be put on the thrown and that now they are just waiting until his plan is finished pisses me off though.

***** And of course Sanguinius is essentially Paul Atreides. Raised on a hostile desert world where people wear special suits to protect themselves, he grows to lead the local peoples, unites the tribes and becomes a deific figure and their messiah.
