I love Durian SO MUCH!!!! Makes my mouth water just seeing it! So my older sister and I had traveled to Hawaii a few times and we found Durian fruit at the China town Market place... I tried it for the first time in Hawaii.... Last year my sister was in a car accident... We all thought she would heal from it, but she KNEW that she would not... She ordered a beautiful fresh Durian to be delivered to me after she died.... bitter sweet! But it was a gift that she KNEW I would understand and love! SO there is my short Durian story... if you have never tried it.... Make sure to get the freshest you can buy... but I still enjoy the frozen Durian as well with a little fresh lime juice squeezed on top!... Thanks for this video... wish I were there tasting all of those wonderful fruits! YUM!!

It was lovely to see your father visit, Maayan! I know that many new memories were made to be cherished by you, Mon, and your children! Regarding durian, my family and I enjoy durian very much too, although my husband is still undecided about it. When I was young, I would run out of the house whenever my grandmother would cut one open for the family's dessert as my young nose thought that it smelled of the stinkiest gym socks in the world. Somewhere in my journey to adulthood, I discovered just how special a fruit it is and its scent now entices me than shoos me away. To me, it can bear a sweetness and texture similar to that of a tropical vanilla custard. The Mornthong variety is my favorite, with the Musang King variety following closely behind. Especially wonderful with some warm sticky rice and salty-sweet coconut milk!
@SweetLifeLanta2 жыл бұрын
Wow what a beautiful comment once again. I love your writing, it's so vivid and smooth. Are you a writer? Btw, the warm sticky rice and coconut milk, that's exactly how Mon grew up! He was never allowed to eat the durian like we did on the movie. It was just a small tiny chunk and then mixed with all the other delicious stuff. ❤️❤️❤️
@GCC03462 жыл бұрын
@@SweetLifeLanta , I am not a writer at all, but it is a kind compliment from you to think of such! Instead, my career ended up leading me into the information technology field. My grandmother would like to make her rice and coconut milk almost soupy, with durian pieces mixed in and slurped with a spoon. While it is very enjoyable that way, I still prefer the more traditional preparation where my sticky rice is more of a solid mound, drenched in the salty-sweet coconut milk, with the durian on the side. It seems more "substantial" and satisfying. 😋 What are your family's favorite varieties of durian? 😊
@SweetLifeLanta2 жыл бұрын
@@GCC0346 it's definitely a compliment! I read your comment out loud to Mon and we were both like "wow wow wow" but no pressure please haha! I think our favorite way to eat durian is just the all natural way. Just... durian! Big hugs to you❤️❤️❤️

Lovely vid as always thanks Maayan. My wife brings home durian and also rambutin from ThaiTown here in Sydney. Expensive, you are not wrong. Never tried the durian myself. Instant turn off from the smell of the durian. Stunk the place out of something like smelly socks and had to open all the windows to air the place out. One of the very few pitfalls of me marrying a Thai I guess. The other being the language barrier at times which is my fault for never putting in the effort to learn. 😂🤣😂

I just found your channel and I am hooked! Your family is so friendly, fun, and happy. Mon is a very funny man and always makes me laugh. I am a Canadian woman married to an Indonesian man and live in his country. I can relate to your life. (And no... I do not like durian!)

@@SweetLifeLanta We live on Lombok Island. I live in my husband's village like a local. It is a very different way of life but I have always been different, so it makes sense to me. It has had many challenges but I have come to love living in Indonesia.

Yes, I love durians especially the village ones. Some even as soft as ice-cream.

I cried when you Daddy leaving. I miss my Daddy so much but it is forever as he is now in Heaven. All the food looks great but I dont eat meat or fish or fowl nothing that had to suffer to make it to the table so I would want only vegetables. God Bless.
