I see you did a couple of Alice & Robin videos! Now THAT was a great couple! I so wish they had done a spin-off of them! I loved Robin's costume & loved seeing them together in that world. They were such a good role model of a female couple. We just didn't get to see enough of them, esp. as Alice & Robin. They were cute as Tilly & Margot, but there was just something about the Alice & Robin characters, costumes, & Robin being an archer that made A & R so special & we saw so little of that. But they were GOLDEN in those scenes! And that first kiss was like something you'd see a hetero couple do in a feature film! The music was so romantic & sweeping & epic, even though it only lasted seconds. (Edited for clarity: Replaced 2 pronouns w/ "Alice & Robin".)

Is anyone else not seeing this as a premonition of something bigger? Yes, this is a deep beautiful love story but it’s also a warning. Our future technology will NOT upload your consciousness but will be trapping your soul. Forever reliving the same events over and over in a computer. If the machines that hold your consciousness is destroyed then you as a being is gone. No reincarnation, ascension, or as a ghost you just gone!! I loved this ep, but I have to disagree w/ 2:05. "Making her jealous" was a shitty thing for Kelly to do. It certainly is not a reason to ship them!! Snubbing Yorkie pissed me off. It was obvious that Yorkie was alone & wanted Kelly's attention. She wasn't making Yorkie "feel jealous"; she was making her feel like shit. It was very immature & selfish. There were a lot of ways these 2 helped each other to grow, which was great. Kelly challenged Yorkie to do things that made her uncomfortable, and Yorkie challenged Kelly to confront her feelings. Those were the positives in their relationship. However, Kelly's constantly making advances toward Yorkie & then backpedaling, each time with more at stake & more anger & violent actions was troublesome. It would be nice to know she ISN'T going to backpedal again. It ESPECIALLY pissed me off when Kelly disappeared after taking Yorkie's virginity. And then the hurtful things she said about marrying her being "just a gesture" to help her pass over & that she pitied Yorkie. Ouch. Not to mention the slap. And the way she acted like Yorkie should have known about her relationship w/ her husband & daughter. God, Kelly, Yorkie's not a fucking mind-reader. You have to TELL her what you are thinking & feeling. Yorkie is the most long-suffering person ever b/c she was the one always being hurt, yet she STILL came to help Kelly up after the crash,- after all that. I think that was a really important moment for Kelly to recognize what a good person Yorkie was & why she's lucky to have found her. And, last of all, would we have thought it was such a perfect relationship had Kelly been a man? When Yorkie gave the firm, "No!" and Kelly pulled her onto the dance floor anyway, or when she slid her hand between Yorkie's legs, would you have thought that was a reason to ship a hetero couple? If not, why the double standard?

I completely agree with everything you said. A lot of what Kelly did to Yorkie really bothered me. Especially when she treated her like just another conquest, ignored her deliberately and also the scene where she goes off on her and completely belittles and demeans her with "I just pitied you...you think your little puppy love fantasy is love" spiel... especially after knowing what Yorkie had suffered...that she never even got to live her life, and also how kind Yorkie was. How she was never even the slightest bit mean to Kelly...she worshiped the ground Kelly walked on! It is very disappointing that people romanticize Kelly treating Yorkie like shit, and had a man said and done those things, I think it would have been obvious to everyone that he's a jerk and that Yorkie deserves better than someone who treats her that way and makes her feel like crap. I like this story, and it seems like Kelly learned her lessons and respected, loved, and committed to Yorkie in the end, but she shouldn't get a pass for all the times she was shitty to Yorkie. I think people give Kelly a pass for her shitty behavior only because this is a homosexual relationship, and so it's glossed over for the sake of the "bigger picture". Had it been a man treating a woman that way (or a woman treating a man that way), the vast majority would agree that person was an asshole. This is why my only gripe with this masterpiece of an episode is how they wrote Kelly.

I know you wrote this a long time ago. I recently watched this episode again. Now I watched it on its own, not along with the other episodes so I had time to think it through and also read some infos about this episode. I liked SJ for the first time but now I was more impressed. It’s understandable why it got two Emmys. (I think the lgbt thing was an important layer but it wasn’t just that made SJ excellent.) The story, the acting, the visual realization, the music, the thought-provoking content have made this one of the best stories for me. I agree with you (and andromedastar) but I would add one more point of view: the creator (Charlie Brooker) first wrote the story for a heterosexual couple (with an unhappy ending) which he later modified - I think it was a good decision because of the deeper content. I don’t know at what stage of the production this change took place but I don’t think he may have completely rewritten all the dialogue that was already ready for the hetero couple. That’s just my theory but I think Kelly’s role was originally probably male and Yorkie’s female. And that explains a few things about Kelly’s behavior when you think about it. Once again, it’s just a theory but I think it fits into the story that Yorkie is a paralyzed old woman and “Kelly” is a man near his death who once had a family. My other point of view is that yes, Kelly didn’t treat Yorkie fairly but I think since San Junipero is primarily a therapeutic program for the elderly (or dying people), Kelly (understandably) didn’t even think that Yorkie’s story is SO UNIQUE and she’s not just an elderly woman coming to San Junipero to relive her youth and have fun. Sure, after Kelly finds out that Yorkie hasn’t had any relationship before, she doesn’t handle it with enough emotional intelligence but by the end of the story (knowing Kelly’s background and views as well), she’s going through character development. I think it also shows the strength of SJ that people talk and exchange ideas about it even years later.
