I’ve actually used a minecart furnace practically once. I was pushing a witch through the nether and had to travel over 8 km. Couldn’t push her myself since she was constantly trying to kill me and powering the 8km rail would take a lot of time. So I got her in the mine cart, slapped a minecart furnace behind her and let it push her the whole way lol. I just had to run up and add coal occasionally.

What would been cool is if there was cable option for mincarts where furnace can pull multiple minecarts to replicate steam locomotive. They could made it exclusive to that cable pull concept maybe damage mobs that got in it's way and also power rail doesn't work on cables exceeding 2 or 3 while the Furnace can pull 5 or 6. A proper train mechanic will be cool and being able to run something over and do knockback damage might be fun!
