There are actually 7 mafia families in North Jersey. The one that Chase mentions as a model for the Soprano Family was the Boiardo Family/crew(run by Richie the Boot Boiardo and his son Tony Boy Boiardo) that ran Newark and surrounding towns for many decades. Chase apparently grew up around and had some relatives associated with this crew/family. But he's also said that the show was "10% reality, 90% fantasy"

Marty like to portray actual people in his films: Jordan Belfort, Frank Sheeran, Howard Hughes, etc. under their real name, and others under "barely fictitious" names - Bill the Butcher, Tommy DeSimone James Burk, etc. Marty would have been in his own fantasy world working on Boardwalk Empire, with all those historical figures. It's no surprise that he dissed The Sopranos, which did not fulfil his main requirements. 1. The main character ascends during Act 1 & Act 2, only to fall apart in Act 3; 2) Have portrayals of real people, whether under their own names or under slightly-modified names.

So the Adrianna character was based on real-life mob Informant Theresa Ferrara who was set up with her own mob-backed beauty parlor which was used as a front for selling drugs. Ferrara got pinched by an undercover cop for drug dealing and was flipped and put back on the streets as an FBI informant. She was also dating Tommy DeSimone, a married man who was played by Joe Pesci in the film "Goodfellas". Ferrara was also ripping off her customers with her drug-dealing, (who were mostly Lucchese crime family members) and she was also accused of keeping money from the Luftansa heist. What's unclear is if they ever knew she was an FBI informant or she was simply whacked for all her other misdeeds?

I wondered about that mugshot in the bing for literally the entire series. Interesting to know it’s Sinatra, and that’s yet another example of the sopranos hinting at connections between Frankie and the mob
@TaraConti3 жыл бұрын
This is really blowing my mind that many people didn’t know that was Sinatra or had never saw that mug shot! I’ve always thought that was one of the more famous pictures of Frank. Maybe it’s just because I’m from the Northeast and Italian 🤷🏻♀️😂

Ray Liotta was never offered the role of Tony Soprano. That's an urban myth debunked by Liotta, himself. He was, however, offered the role of Ralphie.

I can't see him as ralphie hes.. hmm idk too polished and refined to play such a unhinged character

@@whitegluestick6039 Ray Liotta could've only played an american version of Furio. But hey, at least he got double-casted in Many Saints of Newark.

#41: In an interview, David Chase said his original script had no murders in it and Fox rejected it. He put murders in it and HBO snapped it up
@AgentRafa3 жыл бұрын
Your fact #11 is the exact reason for why I didn't even considered watching it when it aired on TV. I think the series was over before I borrowed season 1 on DVD from my mate and started to watch. I was hooked immediately and I have re-watched the whole series 5-6 times and I will watch it many more. The best show ever.

I always felt that Adrianna would’ve known better after everything she saw & heard. Personally I would’ve liked if she had followed Christopher saw his car at Tony’s and then just drove off into the unknown. 🤷🏻♀️ (But then again i’m not David Chase & he’s certainly doing a hell of a lot better in life than I!)

But im not sure it woulda had the same level of cultural impact AND we wouldn't have all got gandolfinis masterpiece of acting!(at least in the form we all know) All that not to mention the impact on TV and cinema this series had as is.
