Edit: According to recent interviews with David Chase and Ray Liotta, Liotta was never offered the role of Tony Soprano. He was offered the role of Ralph Cifaretto.

There are actually 7 mafia families in North Jersey. The one that Chase mentions as a model for the Soprano Family was the Boiardo Family/crew(run by Richie the Boot Boiardo and his son Tony Boy Boiardo) that ran Newark and surrounding towns for many decades. Chase apparently grew up around and had some relatives associated with this crew/family. But he's also said that the show was "10% reality, 90% fantasy"

Marty like to portray actual people in his films: Jordan Belfort, Frank Sheeran, Howard Hughes, etc. under their real name, and others under "barely fictitious" names - Bill the Butcher, Tommy DeSimone James Burk, etc. Marty would have been in his own fantasy world working on Boardwalk Empire, with all those historical figures. It's no surprise that he dissed The Sopranos, which did not fulfil his main requirements. 1. The main character ascends during Act 1 & Act 2, only to fall apart in Act 3; 2) Have portrayals of real people, whether under their own names or under slightly-modified names.

@@nolaanderson8770 Steve Buscemi wasn't charismatic in Boardwalk Empire. He was just remorselessly cynical, without a sense of humor. The real life Nucky Enoch Johnson was a larger than life character with loads of depth. Boardwalk had very little in comic relief whereas Sopranos was basically a comedy with the very best music selections. I liked Boardwalk and watched every episode I could but it's not in the same league as to writing and other well known story telling devices. Buscemi was miscast maybe.

@@graphitedamier3548 No doubt... But she wasn't a heroin dealer.. she wasn't evil... She just fucked up. She wanted a friend... She was alienated... @@graphitedamier3548 also bear in mind, from a strictly CN sense... She was not a made man like big pussy... It's a totally different level... She had more balls than big pussy. She didn't wear a wire... She was just naive about the law aspects... But even then, she only have some basic info... As far as I can recall. Big Pussy was a high ranking made man, and he wore a wire for more than a year. He's definitely a big rat. Adriana was just being manipulated by the feds. It was really a sad thing... Also she was always positive and supportive of Chrissy while never being appreciated. Any man would been lucky to have a woman like her character in their life. If Chris was a better man, she wouldn't have been so needy for friendship and the feds never would've had that opening to get inside their lives.

She didn’t know that girl 15 seconds and said Tony’s name. She brought her to his house. Even if Danielle was a real friend and not the Feds aide would STILL be wrong bc that’s basically a stranger! So the Adrianna character was based on real-life mob Informant Theresa Ferrara who was set up with her own mob-backed beauty parlor which was used as a front for selling drugs. Ferrara got pinched by an undercover cop for drug dealing and was flipped and put back on the streets as an FBI informant. She was also dating Tommy DeSimone, a married man who was played by Joe Pesci in the film "Goodfellas". Ferrara was also ripping off her customers with her drug-dealing, (who were mostly Lucchese crime family members) and she was also accused of keeping money from the Luftansa heist. What's unclear is if they ever knew she was an FBI informant or she was simply whacked for all her other misdeeds?
