Nobody playing Z or T is surprised that A-move void-rays are that strong. Nobody playing Z is surprised the corrupter lost every round despite costing more.

@@Ardonn Protoss are the strongest and most popular race for two years now. Why build specialized anti-air units, phoenixes, if you can always build universal units and still win. Air Protos with rays and Carriers is literally the cancer of this meta. Void rays so op that it's just impossible to ignore them will be nerfed in the next patch.

The corruptor is a specialized anti massive unit thats is its not very good against vikings or void rays. The viking is supposed to be anti air, and the void ray is the hard counter to corruptor is its anti armour.

They actually don't. Vikings out micro voids. Plus if you stuck 50 libs instead of 60 vikings those voids would have melted. Same with muta and nix. All counter voids.

@@thtupid if you talk about micro. Then no need to press that Presmatic Beam alignment thing then because that makes VR move speed slow. So nope think again next time. And honestly they dont need to activate the alignment buff seriously if we talk micro because seriously that buff makes rays relatively slow. And Yes 100% win for rays without micro vs vikings or whatever they are when buffing pres alignment. Which can melt armored units pretty fast. Even without pres.alignment. you under estimate the movement speed of void rays too much and its weapon speed also.

This is no surprise. Zerg units suck in general. Mineral by mineral, Zerg can't compete with Protoss or Terran. What the zerg can do is to out-mine the opponent and throw number against quality. Protoss A-move. Terran micro. Zerg Macro. Those are the things.

@@Jecht1221 Honestly, the number game of zerg in Broodwar was much better than the current SC2. You have no need to spread creep. Hydra is low tech but trade fairly well against most units + ultra cheap. SC2 is a nerf in comparison to SC1. Considering the SC2 units are also much weaker than SC1 and more expensive it's a given.

I wonder why the Void Ray ability stopped being passive. Maybe Void Rays wouldn't be that strong if they had to charge their beam by continuous fire, instead of getting maximum damage instantly. Just disable the ability to charge the beam by firing on your own units and buildings before battle.

It stopped being a passive because it was too strong. When being massed, the little weakness of having charged time gets completely nullified and just snowballs into victory.

Because it did not requiered much input from the player. Being activated encourages active micro and propper timing, while the passive ability used to benefit way too hard on longer fights, as far as player bringing sacrificial units just to charge up the beam and keep it charged as long as they wanted. Now it requires attention from both the attacker and the defender, being able to both chose when is best to fight or to retreat, and creating an actual window to counter attack once the effect runs out, as with every other unit, would it be for example transformation, energy, cooldown or simply being too thick (thors and ultras). The old VoidRay did not have those, all it have to do was keep attacking until everything was dead instead of properly timing the ability like stimpack for example . It's mostly a design choice rather than pure balance, but affects gameplay and enjoyment, so it was a good call.

In long fights? I doubt something like that even exists in SC2 anymore. If the fight goes on so long that the active version of the ability would wear off, the opponent is doing something wrong. Also I think it's rather boring unit design to have button to increase dps (by simply increasing damage no less). Doesn't even feel like a special ability. More like a gameplay mechanic to bring burst on demand. And SC2 is bursty already enough.

@@ShadowTheHedgehogCZ either you were not around during WoL, or have no memory, because the charge-over-time Void Rays were a lot stronger. Once charged up, they stayed charged. They could also target a building or fodder friendly units to charge up, and when they reached critical mass, the charged void rays melted everything. With Prismatic Alignment, you can disengage when they charge up and re-engage once it's on CD. It's become more of a zoning/anti-building tool.

The Viking is hands down the best air unit when in numbers and microed by a semi competent player, the ability to 1 shot capital ships when in numbers with minimal to no loses do to out ranging every other unit with out considering Yamato canon.

Liberator's splash damage is a very good counter though. I've seen Maru exploit that advantage every time he plays Terran air.

@@MrSang-py3dd where did that happen? Liberator anti air counters nothing, they are short ranged and too slow to catch other air units. And the high numbers to make splash relevant are very rare, especially in professional games. Maru is more known for his Ravens in the current meta.

Vikings are only good symbiotically with ground support to zone out counters. They get bodied by anything that can shoot it. Even corruptors as Zerg has a built in eco advantage and the Vikings are needed to engage other targets such as brood lords.

@@Burt1038 I am pretty much talking about air fights, I believe that it being capable of killing capital ships in one shot and taking very minimal damage because of its acceleration it’s very strong. The only other unit that can do this is the tempest and corruptor but the tempest has horrible anti ground and it is very expensive. The corruptor requires viper support to have its maximum effectiveness. Because it’s range isn’t Incredible, not to mention that void rays destroy corrupters with prismatic alignment because they are armored. The best counter to Vikings is storm and parasitic bomb which can take multiple actions and is difficult to control.

As a zerg player, I've always considered so unfair that zerg doesn't have a big deathly ship like a Leviatan to face a battlecruiser or a carreir :( And feels the same here...

WDYM you have broodlords. They just specialize in siege and free units. The battlecruiser is only good for its yamato, and maybe the guns earlygame, the carrier is great but doesn't have any micro attached to it which makes it an overpowered unit in low skill play. All have some tradeoffs.

Not really. Vikings and Corruptors are meant to be answers to most air units, while Phoenixes mostly are meant to either harass enemy mining, deal with common enemy harassment units (Mutas, Banshee, Oracles, other Phoenixes), or provide support for your army by lifting enemy units. Void Rays are better against both Vikings and Corruptors than Phoenixes are--they're the more suited general air-superiority unit against most air units (since most are armored), while Phoenixes are more niche and I'd say overlap more in role with Liberators and Mutas (but also with a bit of Viper) than with Vikings and Corruptors

On ladder you have to bait prismatic alignment (the void ability), pull back and re-engage once it has run out in order to win. Well either that or you use parasitic bombs as support.

void rays are not op. What makes them look overpowered are the Carrier builds they enable. Voidrays alone loose against any anti air unit and also get wrecked by spell-casters. Hydras, Queens, even Mutas beat them. Infestors and Vipers poop on Voidrays. Even Corruptors, wich are supposed to counter Massive units, can win, if they kite properly.

Imagine a gun that takes 2 minutes to reload. Thats void rays. They are lethal but if your skill is as high as those pro players you are nerfing yourself by actively using them.

because vrays are so easily countered for what they are worth. terran can go marines. toss go hydras. and protoss always have a ton of stalkers already.

Why isn't the value of each fight almost equal? We could see how strong the units are against each other if you build the same value... Or allow the weaker unit to almost overwhelm the counter unit to see how many can deal with it's counter...
