40 Winks: A NEW N64 Game in 2019! | RGT 85

The N64 is a classic system that many of us have fond memories of. A new Nintendo 64 game isn't something that you hear about very often though, so when 40 Winks was announced to be getting a cartridge release from Piko Interactive, I was interested. So let's take a look at this NEW N64 game for 2019!

Kids these days don’t understand the system shock that it was to go from super Mario world to Mario 64. Suddenly having a 3D world to explore was fucking amazing to me in high school.

That game was by far the most impressive thing on any console at the time. I was like "Holy *&^%!!". The open levels with long draw distances; the smooth polygon rendering with texture filtering and solid framerates. There was nothing else on the same level.

Just bought the special edition because I want the experience of opening up a brand new N64 game in 2022. The N64 is my favorite console of all time. It’s says they are on backorder so let’s hope it doesn’t take too long.

The cutscenes are built with in game graphics on the n64 whilst the ps1 kept fmv. Nevertheless it is likely they still took the voice samples from the ps1 which is still very nice. Game does look sharper on n64 as one would expect.

Kudos for playing this game on actual hardware and not an emulator. I feel alot of individuals just do not appreciate what it takes to even get a game to run on this machine.

I have a video editing tip for u. When u flub a line and u want to restate a previous line, first hold up a big white piecve of paper real quick for a few seconds, then when u s crub the timeline u can easily see anywehere that you wanted to put in an edit. Anywhere u want to put an edit in hold up the paper to fillt he sxreen. Thsi way u wont keep missing them and restarting lines int he final video.

Be wary if you get the Chinese purchase, that’s actually the rom of the Original version of the game. This version of the game has a few quality of life improvements. Most noticeable will be a few bug fixes and the button prompts appearing more like the controller.

They started shipping this game in mid November. You’ve had this game for 4 months at most if you backed it as cartridge only. The higher tier backers are only recently getting the game due to manufacturing issues. I received mine this week and I backed it within the first few hours of it being up on Kickstarter.

Just found out about this because I found a PS1 copy at a convention and they mentioned that an N64 version was released recently and that shocked me, haha. I hope we see more stuff like this. How cool would it be if they could get that Bloodborne Kart printed and playable on an actual PS1? Would be so cool.

Gladly I still have my N64 up to this day since 1996. It's collecting dust but works like a charm. I remembered playing a demo version of 40 Winks in 2003.

I've played this! Very reminiscent of banjo kazooie. Tragically my N64 is broken so I actually played it on a modded console on a crap TV.. got 2 hours in and was unable to save because my modded console is crap😢 love that you unboxed this on video! Might have to purchase if I ever get my N64 working

I highly recommend quest forge by pico for NES. The best game out of their current offerings in my opinion. The PS1 version of forty winks reviewed terribly and it was an across the board “ho hum”. Can’t picture this rocking anyone’s world but probably makes for an interesting conversation piece.

It's especially great to see new games on old hardware because you get to see modern gaming mechanics in retro games and you get to see how creative the game developer really is because they have less processing power to work with..

I don't mind watching your intro with the 8bit mega man style music, it was something I liked about your show. Incorporate the music somehow into the background just so it doesn't have to be scrapped completely, remember theme songs have a way of leaving a lasting impression.

Conker’s Bad Fur Day has lots of voice samples without using the RAM PAK, so it is very possible to see numerous voice samples in a single Nintendo 64 game.

In theory, if someone made an n64 game today (where they could use say a 1gb cart), would that mean the graphics would look better due to slightly higher res textures? How good could an n64 game look without memory restrictions?

No not really, it would just allow them store more data like voice samples, FMV clips, more levels, etc. One of the big challenges in working with the N64 is the system architecture itself, and the limited about of system RAM even expansion pack.

Rgt I owned 40 winks what back when on ps1 I compared the gamplay of kinda like banjo n kazooie for ps1 but that n64 version seems way more crisp all in all it was a solid game I would say and ran well for me "good times good times" you know I actually remember the other day my first ever own personal video game cartridge it was an SNES game called PLOCK!!! This was a personal fetish for some of the one and a few old school gamers to have this game remade for the n64 honestly the ps1 version still holds up better it just shows how difficult it was to develop games for the n64 with some of the software the developers was offering at the time only the big name studios that were making hit arcade versions of consoles ports like mk or nba jam knew how to architect the hardware capabilities of the n64 the ps1 it look like it made it easy for developers to build around it and make games look 3d textured with simultaneous gameplay .

oh, this game..... way back I used to get frustrated so easily and this game dose have a bit of a problem with platformers, you see some of the platforms are too small to stand on that you need to perfectly and precisely land on top of em or you will die. also one of the big issues is that some platforms got a drifting issue that even when you stand still on them your character will drift to the sides and fall and this happens a lot to me and I was pretty sure that I never touched the controller and saw my character just drift and fall a couple of times, not to mention when enemies hit you your character will enter this small slippery animation that felt as if you're standing on an icey floor and it really got into my nerves that one of the flying enemies hits me and I slipped into my doom on top of a platform, when this happens to me I got so outrageous I opened the disk tray of my ps1 pulled the disc out and throw it on the shelf behind me and the disc got shattered into a tiny pieces then without cleaning the destruction I deleted the save files went to the bathroom then return and played somethings else. funny how I F Bombed GT Interactive and wished they went broke in the future after that......

I have the Nintendo Power issue 128 from January of 2000 that has not only reviewed this as a N64 game giving it an 8.0 rating, but there is even a walkthrough for what I imagine is only part of the game. I always figured this did come out on N64 and am surprised I just realized it was planned but never did, of course till now
