In 1975 Led Zeppelin announced that they would play 3 concerts at Earl’s Court London. This was the biggest venue available at the time and nobody had managed to sell out the entire hall. The music press said they would be lucky to fill one night, never mind 3 nights. They were wrong. The day after the tickets went on sale Led Zeppelin announced that they would play another 2 nights! I was lucky enough to get tickets but had no idea what to expect. Big bands at the time would play for about 90 minutes with a support band coming on before the main act. Zeppelin played for more than 3 hours without a support, (after all who could support them?) the longest concert was 3 hours 45 minutes. I can still remember the concert from the opening bars of rock and roll which absolutely blew everyone away with the energy.

@chrisbrugma1811 I forgot to mention that my ticket was free! Three of us went to the concert and we had a bet on what would be the opening number. The prize was that the other two paid for the winner's ticket. I chose rock and roll as it seemed to me to be the perfect opening line and it was.

One of the most insane live performances ever captured was Led Zeppelin performing "Since I've Been Loving You" at Madison Square Garden in New York in 1973. Vocalist Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page have an entire conversation throughout the song. Highly recommended; so much so that it's the official video of the song on the Led Zeppelin website. Great reaction.

A suggestion, listen on headphones. This song is a good example. With out headphones you miss the sound engineering in the first transition. With headphone you are surrounded and in the middle of the music.

Turned 18 in 1969. I saw at least 15 other bands. Saw Zep 4 times. They never had a warm-up band and always played for more than 3 hours. They always went off on some songs turning a 6-minute song into a 25-minute song. In 1973 at the Garden, Page went off on a solo. John Paul Jones got close to Bonham and you know he said something like," Here he goes again." Jones had a big smile and Bonham laughed and shrugged. Best band ever.

I think that The Beatles might have something to say about that. I absolutely love LZ but without The Beatles, Zep doesn't happen. I will say that The Beatles had two of the best songwriters in rock history but LZ had four of the best musicians ever. Every one of them were masters of their craft. Others may have been as good but nobody has been better.

I’m glad you checked out LED Zeppelin and I enjoyed your reaction. I hope you do more LZ reactions because they have many different types of songs, and only hearing a hard rock song and video doesn’t come near seeing who they are. So if you do more I would recommend Stairway To Heaven live at MSG 1973. It is considered one of the greatest songs in the history of rock music, and this performance has good audio and video quality.

On a beautiful May night in 1969 I rode my motorcycle out from D.C to Meriweather Post pavilion to experience Led Zeppelin for the first time. They opened for the Who and blew the Who away so badly that they never shared a stage again. After the concert, a girl came up to me on my motorcycle. I was wearing a denim vest, no shirt, and blue jeans. Popular dress for the times. She put her hand on my bare chest, her face in mine and said "I wanna go for a ride". "Sure Sweetheart". She swung a leg over the pillion and some guy said "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!!!???" "Going for a ride" Hell no you ain't!!" He grabbed her and off they went. I guess he was her date for the night. Easy come, easy go. Magical times. I was 19.

You should check out this song from their 2008 reunion concert, Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love (Celebration Day). The guy playing drums is the son of the original drummer, who passed in 1980. Actually you should check out the whole concert, it's available on dvd.

You should do a lot more led Zeppelin they have 10 albums. And after the death of their drummer in 1980, they split up for a while. Then Robert plant the lead singer and Jimmy Page lead. Guitarist got back together in '95. Did an album called no quarter and did a tour in 1995 and then they tore it all the way through the '90s into the early 2000s. And in 2007 they got together one more time with John bottoms son on drums and it was absolutely epic. They are The Great est live rock band ever to Grace the stage. It wasn't just one of them. That was good. They were all four Masters of their art and that's what made them so deadly.

If you want to continue the Led Zeppelin journey, especially their live performances check out either "Since I've Been Loving You" from MSG 1973, or "In My Time of Dying" Earl's Court 1975. You won't regret it. BTW the 1973 clip is from the feature film "The Song Remains the Same" released in 1976. Led Zeppelin were unparalleled live, and although the band considered the performances at Madison Square Garden only average, they are mesmerizing.

Jimmy Page was one of the first to utilize the double necked guitar, first introduced in the late 60s. This led to more and more flashy guitars in rock, eventually leading to Rick Neilson's (Cheap Trick) 5 necked guitar. These guitars were nearly twice the weight of others and not very popular with people with spines.

Keep in mind MTV started in 1981. Before 1980, "Music Videos" was not even a term. Pre-1980, the only options to see bands anywhere other than magazines, were : Television variety shows (Donny and Marie, Sonny and Cher, Midnight Special, Solid Gold, the Tonight Show....), in concert, or sometimes, a band would film themselves playing or lip synching to one of their hits (like the Beatles) to use for television advertising to sell concert tickets. There was no outlet for music videos, so nobody made them. Since the internet wave, FANS have made THEIR OWN videos for bands (most without their knowledge or input) from the 50s- 70s. Bands also would sometimes make movies (The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin,.ect) of concerts or comedy skits to get their recognition out there, but video tape wasn't invented until the 70s, and nobody had VCR's until the early 80s. Computers came along in the 90s. Music Video is a "new term" (1981 --now?) Does MTV even have music anymore? I stopped watching in 1994 when "The Real World" was the first "reality" tv show. It had nothing to do with music and they lost me.

Try out "Immigrant Song", "Houses of the Holy" (song, not the album), and for something you won't believe is Led Zeppelin check out "Hot Dog". That one almost caused me to wreck a car late one night after ten hours on the road. For other bands check out Molly Hatchet, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, or Deep Purple. I think you might enjoy those as well.

You wanted good and significant music from way back. No easy pick! We have pop, rock, pre-metal, prog, blues etc. The music change during the Beatles era and through Beatles from pop/rock into all these genres. Videos was not like today until early 80s. They were in most cases either TV programs or made much later. If want a single Beatles turning point video, there is one similar to the ones of today but contemporary: "Strawberry fields forever"; it is 4:23. A sample of psychedelia would be the Vanilla Fudge's cover of the Supreme's "You keep me hanging on" from TV: Ed Sullivan Show 1968 (4:17) or Jefferson Airplane with "White rabbit" from Woodstock 1969 (2:54 with lyrics). Pre-metal use to be Black Sabbath, like "Paranoid" Belgium 1970 black/white (2:51) and Deep Purple "Child in time" British TV 1970 (9:35) - but I will suggest the very odd hit from the Summer of 1968 from TV "Top of the pops" Arthur Brown singing "Fire" (2:51; bl/w). Another milestone is Frank Zappa's "Peaches en Regalia" instrumental audio from the album "Hot Rats" released 1969. (To be continued...)

From their first rehearsal on August 19,1968 to September 25,1980 when sadly the greatest drummer passed away. The band knew they couldn’t continue without their friend John Bonham. Just a few great choices, studio version You Shook Me, amazing blues with 3 solos. Live at Madison Square Garden (1973) Since I’ve Been Loving You, & Stairway To Heaven. Live at Earls Court May 25,1975 is the best version of, In My Time Of Dying, it has the best audio & visuals. What a terrific song! And yet there's almost nothing to it. The verse is just a riff, repeated over and over, and the chorus is the same riff, with the addition of a downward glissando. We get two of each, and then the kinda interesting spacey part. There's the guitar solo, all on the 1 chord, and then we're back to the verse. Everything stops for a solo highlight from Plant, there's a new (!) chord change down to a 4 chord, and then we're back to the verse for a fade out. The verse and chorus employ the same two chords, a 1 and a flat7, both DOM7, and there's that single use of the 4 chord, (I think just a major triad, but it could be a DOM7 chord and I haven't noticed, what with this being a rock 'n' roll song and nearly every chord in a rock 'n' roll song being normally a DOM7), and THAT'S IT! It's been rockin' my socks off since I first heard it in the early '70s. Pure genius. Oh, and I gotta take special notice of all the cave-man drum fills. Utterly satisfying.

All I suggest are groups Dire Straits, Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, Allman Brothers, anything by Eric Clapton just a few bands. not a fan of current music, 60's, 70's, 80's, music best time for music.

Uh, no, that isn't true. I was 16 when that song was released, and all my friends and I knew EXACTLY what those lyrics meant! Only dweebs and nerds thought it was only about being a lover. That's what we told our parents when they overheard us listening to the song. Even Jimmy Page in an interview years later said it meant exactly what we thought it meant.
