I was at this concert as a young 24 year old ,now as a 63 year old I still listen to queen daily thet really are the greatest band ever in my eyes and in Freddie they had the greatest showman ever. It was said many years later that for 22 minutes in 1985 the uk was ruled by another queen. This concert was for famine in Africa. It was live in London and a Philadelphia and screened on tv all over the world. That’s why there were so many people. There were many bands playing. They only had 22 minutes that is why some of the songs were cut short. Brian May is still alive and continues to tour with the drummer and a different bass player and Adam Lambert as front man. Yes they are legends. We lost Freddie to AIDS in 1991 because there were no meds to keep him alive. He sang and continued to write until he could no more.

I was there that day in 1985 as a 15yr old pop music lover... I left that day as a convert to rock music, thanks mainly to Freddie & Co... You need to remember that this was NOT a Queen concert or even a Queen audience, in fact they were a last minute addition to the line up. That said for 22 minutes that afternoon Freddie had close to 73,000 people in Wembley and almost 1.9 billion watching on TV globally eating out of the palm of his hand. David Bowie followed Queen that day and was in the wings when they came off stage and apparently said to Freddie something along the lines of "thanks you b'stard, how am I supposed to follow that?"😂😂 I was lucky enough to see them again the following year on their "Magic" tour, Status Quo opened for them (BONUS) and Queen certainly didn't disappoint. I'm now a 55yr old woman who's been to 300ish live rock concerts over the years, everyone from Guns n Roses to ACDC to Uriah Heep, Meatloaf, Status Quo, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi (48 times 😂), The Hollywood Vampires (Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry) to H.I.M and the 69 Eyes.. but that 22 minutes right there is still by far the best 22 minutes of live greatness EVER! And one show that has never left my memory! God bless you Freddie and Thank you for the music.. RIP you legend 👑👑👑

I love watching younger people react to Queen with the "I don't know anything about Queen" attitude until Rock You and Champions happen then, as you were, they are open-mouthed in astonishment because the do know Queen after all. Both of those great songs were written to encourage audience participation, but you may have noticed that the crowd sang along to Bohemian Rhapsody anyway as that song was so iconic. Freddie had a bad throat (which he said was like gargling with broken glass) and the doctor told him not to perform. However Queen did and they smashed it. Each act was given 20 minutes and if they ran over they were cut. Queen did the most songs and finished exactly on time. All four of Queen have University Degrees which are not in music.

If you can find it, watch "Queen live at Wembley 1986". It's way too long for a reaction, but it will give you an idea of how audiences reacted to the band. Wembley (the same stadium as the "Live Aid" concert which you just watched) was just as packed. This is such a great set. I love this and have seen it so many times but each time I feel like I am right there in the crowd. Thank you for your reaction. And, I’m a Trivia sponge, so here goes: FUN FACTS FIRST: The kisses are for his Mom who was watching him on Television. MATTER OF FACTS: They had just completed a Tour a month b4. So, they went & rented a Stadium to practice the performance. He ended up with a Throat Infection & the Doctor highly recommended he not do it bc he might lose his musical ability. He said no! Can you tell he had a severe throat infection? Most people think he was drinking booze from the cups bc on the piano. He’s drinking Honey & Tea. His command of the Audience was more than coincidence it was miraculous. Considering there were so many people there the sound was getting absorbed through them. So the people @ the back we’re following his hand gestures bc the actual sound hadn’t even reached them b4 the next sound was coming @ them. Go back & watch what his hands are doing & what the Audience is doing. NEXT: Radio Gaga is celebrating Radio bc M-TV is just getting started. LADY GAGA was a huge Freddie Fam growing up, so That was where she came up with HER STAGE NAME! You have to listen to the words to really understand the meaning. Most of us didn’t have a clue what a Band looked like unless we saw them in Person! NEXT-MICROPHONE. At sometime along the way a Microphone Stand broke, so that was the only spilt second solution they could come up with. He realized the freedom he had to move, dance, & engage the Audience. NEXT MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS CONNECTION on Song THIS THING CALLED LOVE: It was written as his homage to Elvis-Freddie was a big fan. But, he just wasn’t sure about the song bc he didn’t want to taint Elvis. SO, he played it for Michael J. (Yes, they were friends!). And Michael told him he HAD TO, he said “Freddie, you have to”! (Can’t you just see that!?). NEXT FREDDIE’s VOICE. HE HAD 4 extra teeth so that’s the reason he had such an overbite. He had the ability to naturally flow from Octave to Octave. It was a natural progression, for him. SCIENTIFICALLY: Test were done on his Voice. He was able to use his Throat muscles on either side of his vocal cords. Which is normally seen in some Opera Singers. His Vocal Range was from Low Bass F, to High Soprano F! They were extremely surprised to find out that he could go from about 92Hz to 784Hz, effortlessly! See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW: nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since. His ability to blend highs, lows and mid range notes cohesively and with immense precision. This skill was due to the fact that Freddie was able to create faster vibrato and harmonics than any other singer at the time. Not only this, he was able to shift through registers effortlessly. Although he naturally held a baritone voice, he primarily sang as a tenor and of course had no problem then shifting into soprano parts. One study on Freddie’s vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves! LEAD GUITARIST: Brian May, is playing on a Guitar he & his Father made. When he first starting to learn they were too poor to afford a high end guitar. So, they just made one! They made out of an old cabinet his mother was going to throw awayThe included some “extras” that would normally have to be separate instruments to get all those features (think Concerts when you see guitarist changing Guitars depending on the Song….that’s why he didn’t)! I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music! LAST INTERESTING INFO: When he is waving his arm it is to tell the cameramen which way he is going bc he’s moving around so much. When he kicks his legs backwards that is getting over all the cables, that are on the Stage. TV Cameras were not cordless back in the day!! And, “We Will Rock You”, is actually a Prelude to “We Are The Champions”. (It is really all 1 Song!) You just, truly, saw “ The Greatest Show On Earth!” Brian May said Freddy was a hard taskmaster in rehearsals. But, that he always was right about what the Audience wanted…would say that worked out pretty well..wouldn’t you agree? Freddy turned the whole Audience in to his backup singers!

Four brilliant musicians at the top of their game. This performance is all the more remarkable because this was not a Queen audience (they were a last minute addition) and they stole the show. Brian May said the sound was so bad on stage that they couldn't even hear one another. That's where their professionalism shows.
