I was 7 years old when my teenage brother told me to come in the living room and watch this concert with him. I think it was live on pay per view at the time. It was Live after Death and I have been a hard-core fan ever since then. Iron Maiden is life and as important to me as family. UP THE IRONS 🤘

I have all three audio versions -Vinyl, cassette and CD, plus the VHS video. IIRC, the cassette version is the longest at over 100 minutes. I used to play this cassette in my truck as we drove to shows. There are variations to some of the songs as well. I still listen to the CD in the car during long drives. So many great songs... but if I had to pick one, probably Flight of Icarus.

I got this on VHS from my cousin when I was about 10. Watched it until the tape wore out! I thought Adrian Smith looked like the coolest guy on Earth, and recently managed to get a gold top Les Paul, purely because of him!

Live After Death... So much can be told about this quintessential piece of Metal majesticity. To me it was also the event that sealed my devotion to Iron Maiden, the overall speed in the playing was stunning for me, compared to what I knew of them at the time. Churchill's speech just followed by the initial riff of Aces High, then those frantic guitars, that perfectly placed dive; later, 2MTM interlude; Revelations as a whole (it was my first time listening to that); Flight of Icarus is emblematic to me here; Rime is mesmerizing and I still can't help that when the Albatross sinks like lead into the sea, then down in falls come my tears also... 40 years later. No matter when nor where, every time when the bell begins to chime, I know it's time for me to surrender to the awesome. Also, I can leave out the powerful moody Children of the Damned, Bruce's performance is otherworldly, one of my favs is 22, with Dave's bluesy solo, and it was also to me, first time listening to Wrathchild and Phantom of the Opera, the strong in-your-face-ness of the first and the guitars play in the second, plus Bruce's singing are everything a young boy and the man he turned into would ever need to stand this world. LAD also cemented my love for live recordings as a mean to really know what a band is capable of.

Yes, I also played along with Dave and Adrian trying to emulate their guitar parts as close as possible! LAD was the last (and best?) recording of that classic 80's Marshall raw Maiden sound before they started using Gallien Krueger amps in Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.

I took my little brother to see them this tour in NYC they played Radio City Music Hall. I was a senior in college at the time. That tour, Bruce got sick and they had to cancel some of the 5 nights they had booked. I’m 63 now and I have trouble remembering all the details. I do remember being thankful we had tickets to the first show so we were fortunate. It was the first time I saw them without Paul and I was quite entertained by the new long haired, hyper active lead singer. Is that a new tattoo on your right arm? Or did I just notice it. I would love to hear your analysis of Rime of the Ancient Mariner

I have two moments that stick with me. The first is when Bruce takes Dave on his shoulders. The other one is when they play Hallowed Be Thy Name, the way Dave and Adrian go up their stand to reprise the final harmony. I love this.

BEST live album in rock history!! 🥲 Best moments for me: Intro Churchill/Aces High, Flight of Icarus, Powerslave!!, when the band enters for guitar solos in Rhyme of the ancient mariner, all the bass and drums in Running Free, also the guitar solo on 22 Acacia Av, and Die with your boots on (a really cool closer!). Thanks for sharing your memories!! 😎

I was such a fan of Powerslave (my gateway album into metal), I was absolutely jazzed when I came over my best friend's house and he pulled this bad boy out. I was just floored and blown away by the quality of the live production, shout out to and RIP Martin Birch. And as good as the album was, the live video was actually better. It was as if the band knew when to pull out their very best performances. There were so many great performative moments by the band, both individually and as a unit that I have always believed that this is the best live album of all time. I have heard several others through the years, such as UFO's seminal Strangers in the Night or Scorpions World Wide Live, but as great as those albums are, they come up just a little bit short. To this day, every time I play my "Time to Get Going" playlist on shuffle and the LAD video version of Flight of Icarus comes on, whether I'm in my own car or in my work car, I crank that shit up as loud as I can stand it and I sing at the top of my lungs while aping Dave and Adrian's guitar parts. It hypes me up big time. I look forward to your full breakdown of this album, Nico, and by all means, go as far as you feel you need to! I'm here for it!

My favorite Live After Death moment would be that bend-release that Dave Murray does at the end of his Powerslave solo(at aprox 3:39 in the Long Beach Arena video)..its so good gives you goosebumps I also love the harmony in thirds that they make in Hallowed be thy Name on that riff after the solos(at aprox 5:35 in their video) But I would still claim that the "Beast over Hammersmith - 1982" is their best overall perfomance, the band seemed tighter and heavier with Clive on the drums and Bruce's original voice was still at its peak, not yet destroyed by the World Slavery Tour

Fantastic album, Powerslave was the first album I got with Maiden, but when this came out…. Wow. I loved the sound so much more, in particular the guitar mix as you point out yourself. For the first time I could get who played what. It took a few years more before I watched the movie and that was even more incredible. I loved all the highlights you point out, favorite moment is without a doubt Powerslave fire. But Id also like to add, the instrumental part before the breakdown in RotAM. As well as the breakdown, so cool when they lower the lighting rig and all the smoke on the floor. And also the part in hallowed when Dave and Adrian climb up on the back. And also big Eddie of course. This was fantastic. ❤ And also thanks for your great videos ❤

There's so much fire in the way they play on this. It's not that they're playing messily, but they're intentionally not clean. They're playing with raw passion, skill, energy. You are right, they know that they're on the top of the world at that moment and they are playing like it. You can see how this album inspired so many generations to come. Tobias Forge says this album made him want to be a touring musician, and while the music is so different, you can see that Ghost's live show is inspired by this album. As for favourite bits... #1 has to be obvious? "This is what not to do... if your bird... shits on you!" and that powerful opening. #2 Revelations. #3 ALL OF IT!

Right there with you! I was already a big Maiden/Adrian fan but it all changed on December 21, 1984. My mind was blown away as a young 15 year old guitarist. I still get chills thinking or listing to that album!! Shortly after my dad me my 1st real guitar, Kramer Focus 1000 and absolutely, I would mute Adrian side (left) and play along with Dave...instill do lol My memorable memories from that show is everything pretty much!! The opening! The stage The lighting The lights moving! The different backdrops The energy Steve running all over the stage Dave's guitar Solo Dave on Bruce's shoulders The climatic point in ROTAM Dave and Adrian on top of each side of Nicko during the harmony in Hallowed be thy Name Wondering were Bruce was sinning from during the 1st verse of Powerslave then appeared from behind the flames!! Eddie during Powerslave The giant Eddie in Iron Maiden Bruce engaging the crowd during Running Free And of course eyes glued on Adrian! That whole concert jist blew me away! I feel so greatful I was able to experience it live. Also greatful that I was able to bring my kids this past tour and see them with Nicko. Up the Irons! Forever ⚒️

This is my overall favorite IM album. It was also my very first IM album that I bought with my own money. I saw that cover and I fell in love with it (it's also my favorite IM cover). When I was in high school my buddy told me how awesome IM was, but I had never heard it. I was in KMart with my mom sometime in 1985 or '86. And I saw the tape for this album in their tape section, and based on my buddies word, and how awesome the cover was, I bought the tape and went home and devoured it. Listened to it over and over and over again. Flash forward 40 years later, it's still my favorite. I love Davey's solo work in this version of Powerslave. To me, this is the definitive version of every song on this album.

So many similar takes on my end. Mostly what I think of when I think about Live After Death is that it's the moment I knew I was going to be playing music for the rest of my life, regardless of my success at it. There was no question after seeing L.A.D. that I was going to be a lead guitar player in a rock band. I discovered Maiden in '91 when I was about 13, so yeah. 35 years later, I can point it all the way back to Dave and Adrian trading solos in Aces High. For me it was what I imagine kids in the 60's felt when they were watching the moon landing.

I have so many good memories about this album... Was the first Rock show that I watched in DvD in my life. I remember that the cables of the DvD player was kind of broken, so in some points during the show the sound of Dave's guitar were lower or just dissapeard. I was like "What tha heck?!", I didn't knew that the cables were doing this, so then I discoverd about R and L sounds, and if I just disconectec one of this cabl3s, I could hear Dave's guitar o4 Adrian's guitar almost isolated. Then that's how I learn by ear to play some powerchords and riffs of these songs, playing through. "Live After Death" was my first "guitar backing track" experience (it happened at 2005, when I was 12 years old). At the same year, I found the LP version of this show in a local music store that existed in my town at that time, and I was mesmerized with this! It was a second hand LP and I saved some money to buy it. I still have this LP. My fav of this is "The Rime", "Powerslave" and "Phanton of the Opera". One of the most awesome live albuns ever! 🤘🏼⚡🎸

I remember the first time I saw it was on a black and white TV at a friend's house, then a few years later I rented it again to copy it lol What had surprised me when I heard "Hallowed be thy name" was that it sounded heavier than the studio version, I heard the live version first and when I heard the original I thought, wow! what happened here? Curious note, in the intro of the video the first takes that appear are in reverse, minute 5:16 look at the person clapping. LAD is a amazing album for those who want to hear Maiden for the first time at their best. It will always be my favorite 🤘🤘

Along with Rock in Rio, these are the Maiden's live albums I love the most. I respect the studio tracks of each album but there are several tracks from both live albums that I enjoy much more and prefer to the studio ones. In the case of Live After Death, Rime of the Ancient Mariner is my favorite and I'm learning it by following that live recording. It's perfect to my ears since I heard it for the first time. A big goal this year for me is to learn Dave's solo on that track. Also Adrian's but Dave's especially in the last bars has such a fantastic expression, which I love compared to the studio one. It would be great to see you play the solos, Nicko. Best regards

Bruce sounds strained on LAD (understandably so given the schedule) whereas on BOH he is absolutely killing it. And the energy/tightness on BOH is just incredible (Clive Burr being the obvious variable)...just my 2 cents. Wonderful video as always Nico 🙂

I remember my Dad taping an abridged version this for me off late night telly back in 1987. I'd only been listening to Maiden for a few months so this was the first time I got to see them playing live. As I was only 8 years old at the time my Dad "accidentally" taped over some of the more adult comments in the Running Free singalong and claimed there was a problem with the video tape. The other thing I remember about it is that for some reason it was edited so that it jumped straight from the intro to Aces High into the pre-chorus of 2 Minutes To Midnight. I don't know if this was a genuine tape error or if ITV decided to cut it that way but for about six months I thought that was how 2MTM actually sounded. It was only when I got Powerslave for Christmas that year that I realised I was wrong.

Hello Nicko. I hope you are well. About this album I have had a question for many years that maybe you can answer. Why isn't the song Losfer words on the track list anymore? I hope you know. Thank you so much. A strong hug.

The Live After Death VHS made me a lifelong rabid Maiden fan. My brother and I watched it over and over and over. My favorite parts are really just discovering Adrian and what he actually does during the songs. "Oh, Adrian sings too?? AND he plays the more melodic parts of the songs that I really like?? Wow, I really like this guy!" I think that's why I was completely crushed when No Prayer came out and Adrian had left the band. Funny enough, I didn't like Adrian's Lado at the time LOL

This album was great for learning the twin guitar parts - I'd just turn down either the left or right speaker on my high - fi, and pretend to be either 'Dave' or 'Adrian ' " *SCREAM FOR ME LONGBEACH* !!!"
