Great stream. It was great to see CDs getting some love. CDs are my preferred physical media, based primarily on space and budget. I enjoyed seeing some of your CD boxsets - they give me ideas of what to get to keep working on my collection. Keep doing CD videos.

Hello Mazzy, I am a cd man. Thank you for this vdo. And I agree. That native american Grateful Dead box is one of the most beautiful box sets I ever saw. Really great stuff.

I am 50. Glad I experienced first cassettes from I was 10-13. Then my dad bought me a record player and I could finally get those awesome big records and enjoy the artwork. Two years later in 1987 at 15 I spent a large portion of my confirmation money on a CD player. From 87 to 2000 I bought primarily cds. Then there was a mp3 for free phase that lasted some years but I still bought second hand vinyl and new cds from artists I liked. The past decade back to vinyl. Still find almost for free cds used and new LPs along with second hand. Have around 800 cds and 1700 LPs. Threw away my cassettes around 15 years ago. Thankfully I always kept my cds and LPs while others were going to the cloud and own nothing physical which sounds so unappealing to me.

I'm guessing that Revolver is your favorite album as it is mine. That looks like an American Capitol standard stereo issue of Revolver, and what's with the loose tape? Not carefully preserved. Is it the the American format, with the eleven tracks? I'm guessing yes. That's also my preferred version.

Great stuff, as always. Wish you'd do a bit on glitches with the McCartney CD re-issue programme. Might shame his people into correcting errors, such as variable sound levels on the double album version of Red Rose Speedway, a mistake on Magneto and a Titanium Man, a funny thing happening at the end of Love Is Strange, etc. So infuriating. Keep up the good work.

Really enjoyed this video, even though I was of those stubborn shites who refused to give up on vinyl back in the 90's and 2000's. Together with my wife, I still have a few hundred CDs, but can't remember when I last played one...... Do you see a future for this format, since it got squeezed between vinyl and streaming?

Mazzy, the tape is funny!! Still do CDs, as well. Sometimes more material that on vinyl and also budget friendly. I am not an audiophile. I am into content. Music. Got back into vinyl about 4-5 years ago, though through RSD.

If a fire broke out, I would save my vinyl records first. Maybe after owning my CDs for fifty years, I will grow to love them like vinyl. Too much time and effort collecting records pre-internet to consider them equal to ubiquitous CDs. CDs allow the purchase of albums too rare and expensive to ever find or own on vinyl. Some of my records have pops and crackles, some CDs have skips and refuse to play. When will the world be perfect? I respect any record that survived the sixties.

INSURANCE:...great topic for new video: Mazzy, since you're covering your collection, how do you insure your collections? Forgive me if you covered this already, those of us with thousands of CDs/LPs, would benefit from your solution, ideas, recommendations, lessons learned. Thanks, Rob Wood

Hi. Sorry I missed the live stream but with some of my heath issues I do need to in bed earlyish but anyway there was great talk about cds and packaging having caught up now so thank you for the stream. Long boxes: I had a few usually from the import boxes at HMV here in the North Staffordshire City region muttering under my breath about the waste as needless to say all that stuff ended up in trash. 3 inch (7.5 cm) cds: We had them and usually they came in plastic pop out blister packs w.hich as I'm sure you'll get was a anti theft measure. That said because of the issue of a cd player base that didn't have a tray to take them you often needed to clip them into an external ring shaped adapter. That on some discs such as the UK market Depeche Mode cd singles saw the three inch single housed within the adapter inside a slim "after eight" five inch cd single case which kind of went away from the entire point. Sony did market for all of eighteen months a couple of three inch portable cd players that left the full sized discs sticking out to saw your hands off! I do buy "beermats" apart from vinyl finding it better for classical music, great for whole outputs and with those five cd original albums sets we have in Europe a good way of exploring artists and styles. I get your humour Mazzy - might be with locked more to anglophone culture the references are shared - plus I find a lot of yours is similar to that with at least the West Midlands never mind the rapid fire humour you find on Merseyside having worked with many from that part of Northwestern England. Now to sort out some "snappin" for ones midday meal! Regards Christopher, Staffs,England.

l'm surprised at your frustration about box set shapes and sizes. it makes them conversation pieces and creates diversity... like you said a few times, they're like works of art... except that Hancock unless it's made of glass... the first cd box l got came as a gift, a 4 disc set of doo wop, on rhino l believe. two of the cds were the same so l had to take it back. the shop didnt have another copy and l never got it again : )

those kinks sets should be the same size but damn, they are wonderful regardless. the 4 mosaic boxes you have are great but the armstrong one is available and more beneficial to you than another couple of hats. thanks for the tip on kinky friedman's "sold american", kf in general.

Vinyl was , is and will remain my favourite music medium but having built up a large collection of c.d's and after my initial dislike l must admit l,ve grown to ( not love ) but like them . The bonus, unreleased tracks and the excellent remastering on poorly produced albums have a lot to do with it l must admit although the condensed artwork no matter how well reproduced initially put me off but now l,ve got used too . So yep c.d,s were a good thing but records remains king .

What good is a reel to reel tape without a tape recorder?
@4-dman4642 жыл бұрын
Revolver! But besides, there's something that always bugs me about that cd shelving in background like it's bad feng shui. Now at last the thumbnail pic for this vid explains it. There's a long beam across the ceiling and the shelving cuts across it like it isn't there, which is bad aesthetics. The only song I could listen to in that room is 'Cut Across Shorty.' *Parallel Lines* would be out of the question. Half that shelf needs shifting to the other side of that beam urgently - - immediately - - desperately, live, on camera, with various guests assisting the move and the V-R directing operations by megaphone. Audiophiles can advise on feng shui.

Mazzy or if anyone knows. Are the CD shelves custom made or can they be purchased? If they are retail, where can they be bought? Thank you
@mazzysmusic2 жыл бұрын
The back wall shelves were custom built on top of the foundation of the sub basement. Since it jets in about 8 inches and about three feet high, it was perfect for these shelves to fit CDs

Japans C.D. LP STYLE casing is the best authenticated way of producing a c.d. to the consumer-most of my Jazz on c.d. comes from Japan & most on SHM-with a Very good Transport & D.A. set-up it comes very close to L.P. - If people use a cheap c.d. that's why the sound is CRAP -Garbage in-Garbage Out same as Turntable & Cartridge

Hey Mazzy, have you seen Robert Fithens' recent video on popular records that he HATES? I know you have worked with him on youtube, so I thought you should be aware of this. He's very angry about folks liking music that he doesn't get. Are all radio people this nuts? Did not expect something so crazy from him. I don't have any problem with his opinions on the music itself, I even agree with a couple of them, it's the dismissiveness toward the admirers of this music that gets me. Barely under the surface, it's very, very nasty. Oddly, almost all the comments for this rant are positive so maybe it's just me. Just don't get it. Thanks

I found it refreshing to see some of these sacred cows knocked down a bit or totally demolished . These records when released were ok and reviewed well for the most part, but are now on everyone’s grail list for the perfect copy. I’m hoping there’s a part 2 that include some of the Jazz records that everyone covets. I think it’s his brand of humor and found it refreshing. He knocked a few I like, but alls fair game in the VC. Maybe it’s the DJ in me though, and yes most radio people are a little nuts.
