Normally, I wouldn't even look at a boat this small. However, despite its size, it has a lot of features that make it 'livable'. Not that I'd use it for live-aboard, it would be perfect for weekends in tight passages, like some of the waterways in Florida. Being trailerable certainly is a plus for that!

I used to own the 27' version and my son and I spend quite a few summers cruising around B.C. We have many good memories. The build quality of the Ranger Tug was mixed. They did an admirable job of maximizing space use. The seats are uncomfortable for long term use. There is no vent for the stove/oven and it could get a bit smokey in the cabin. We had the optional diesel heater and it did a great job of keeping us warm on some cool and damp nights. What we did discover, by experience, was that the heater used the same fuel tank as the engine. As the engine used electronic fuel flow to calculate fuel consumption and remaining fuel it would reduce available fuel reserve without telling us. We actually ran out of fuel on our way into Comox. Luckily we has a spare can of diesel. The inverter had to be replaced three times. The fuse for the front thruster was the same as for the windlass and would blow. Took them some time to figure that out. The radar dome assembly had to be replaced. The thrusters are good enough in relatively calm conditions. The Volvo engine control harness was not the correct one resulting in errors. They could not find a correct harness and ended up splicing cables to make it work. When you are on holidays you really don't want to spend time in the shop fixing things like this on a new boat. Seaworthiness? I caution anyone going into heavy seas. The bow is not friendly to oncoming waves resulting in very uncomfortable slamming into the waves. We had to slow down to sub 5 Kt speeds. The boat also rolls a lot. To the extent that the kitchen cupboard doors would fly open and spill the contents. Finally, after a service the technician forgot to tighten the oil cap resulting in quite a mess. Engine instrument warned us of low oil!

Thanks for the advise , I did see a few video's on the hull thickness that were not encouraging . Have you seen a Helmsman 31 ? Iv'e been wondering about the Helmsman 31 . A bit wider , a bit more towards displacement on the spectrum of semi-displacement than the R31 ,still trailerable with the right permit and tow vehicle where I live . Seperate head and shower . It's a dated design by comparison but from afar it seems to be a bit more robust maybe .

That has to be the damn coolest 31' boat I've ever seen. And it sleeps 4 people! That's amazing.and you can do 720 miles at displacement speeds! That's almost enough to do the Great Loop and not have to stop but like 10 or 12 times for fuel.. But I'm sure you wouldn't cruise it at 7 knots the whole time. I think the Hardy, Great Banks, Fleming and Nordhavns are the most popular that do the Great Loop, probably a few others I know I'm forgetting for sure, but this is way less and just as capable.

To me, this is a PERFECT single person live aboard - it's about multiple spaces rather than one cavernous salon, as variety is the spice of life. Thanks "you two" for yet another enjoyable and informative tour.

First I would like to say that I love your videos. I just thought I should clarify the statement that this boat is trailerable. The maximum legal width of a trailer on a road is 8.5 feet in USA and Canada. This is for hooking up and driving anywhere and anytime you want. This boat is trailerable but is considered a wide load and you have to buy a special permit every time you move it.

If you dock in a marina that charges by the foot you're saving money. Easy to single hand probably.

Talk about an amazing little live aboard and with it's range there's no reason I can see you couldn't head out from Florida to spend some time in the Bahamas. What a truly spectacular little vessel that's well appointed and a proven hull design that if you were dumb enough to get caught in bad weather would get you safely through it. The reason I say dumb enough is not meant as an insult it's because with today's weather predictions and the ability to know what's coming there's no reason to get caught in it barring some sort of failure or other circumstance. The thing is she's also more than fast enough to outrun anything you failed to see coming, well almost anything. This would be a dream vessel for me and the fact you can trailer it means no haul out fees or storage fees if you have a property to take her to. Also on the comment about using an RV Garage seeing as how when folded down she's only 10'3" tall there'd be no issues with that and you can easily take her down most major highways/interstates as when folded her clearance is below that of a Tractor Trailer/Big Rig. Now to win the lottery or have some stocks actually pay off and away I'd go...

The oversize road permit to trailer this craft can be quite an adventure in some states. Escort vehicles, designated routes, avoiding low bridges, daylight hours, and dry road conditions only travel is the challenge. The fees are usually nominal and a CDL may or may not be required depending on tow vehicles weight with everything loaded up for an excursion. Be safe.

19 feet at mile marker 300 give or take. There may be a more circuitous route to avoid the low bridge problems. You can't rush the trip and one and a half to two years would be the time budget, especially if you do the St. Lawrence route. I recommend the St. Lawrence as you get to visit Quebec (kinda France) and St. Pierre (actually France). The Northern parts of the loop freezes in Winter so careful planning is important.

I did not remember seeing this yacht, but wow, for 31 foot. The great loop is a very interesting idea. Seem like a wonderful couple boat with size, romantic spots and extremely practical.

A very cute little yacht. I looked at their full range and if I was going to do the Loop, I think I'd go with the 43, just for the extra room and conveniences.
