My dad was a diesel mechanic his whole life and he has a collection similar to this. He pretty much gave his paycheck to the Snap On / Mac / Matco guys and we barely had enough money for food, clothes, and we even got to skip a Christmas because he had to make his payments. Our vehicles always had something wrong with them because didn't have time to fix them being he had to work overtime to make his payments. His plan was to sell the tools off and use that money to live on. Now he is 75 yrs old and can barely walk from being on cement , beginning stages of vascular parkinsonism/dementia and I get to deal with his fine investment because he didn't want to sell anything. Seriously considering cutting those tools up with a torch for satisfaction!

Don't be bitter at him, brother. His intentions were good. He wanted to pass something onto you that you could either use or sell to get what you desired in life. You ate and had a roof over your head even if it wasn't optimal. My father was never there and when I tried having a relationship with him when older he tried to sabotage everything good in my life out of envy.

It is selfish of myself to think that way, but hearing " I just give him $150 a week" and the tools keep coming in along with the debt that is behind it just is a stuck record playing in my head from growing up. Maybe this guy is pulling a $100K plus for an income and can balance the tool debt and provide a good family relationship. As long as the tools increase your pay and you make more money to invest for retirement it is all good. Anyone thinking these tools are an investment financially belong with the crowd the invests in pull tabs and lottery tickets. Being my dad wasn't home much, I used the tools at home to try and fix my bike and things and to this day I still hear about that 7/16" wrench that I didn't put back in the correct drawer and supposedly was lost. I started working for farmers in the area when I was 11 so I had money to buy my own school clothes and pay for the athletic fees, field trips, and other things if I wanted to do. Taught myself hard lessons that paid off but to this day there is not much of a soft spot in my heart for my parents being I am in the process of juggling their small assests to get them into a care center on MA.

I worked in Canada and Australia as a truck/heavy equipment mechanic..The guys who bought snap on in Canada thought they were the dogs bollocks..but generally useless do to the God awful apprenticeship system they have there.Moved to Australia and the mechanics used leather bags to carry their tools around very few boxes back then but they could fix anything with so little and so fast.Myself I bought a large snap on box in Canada for only 1000 CD. in 1997 when I got to oz people thought I was a millionaire poor sods would pay 6 times the price if they wanted one,,Had that box for 20 years still serves me well..great tools but insane prices.

The wobble plus sucks I bought them years ago and they work good for straight extensions but with the wobble part whenever you have a little pressure on them the socket pushes down and lock into the straight part and now you have no wobble. Pain in the ass in tighter areas way better just having straights and wobbles separate.

I hate the extorsion they inflict on cultish kids coming out of school with their predatory financing. That said, Snap-On tools are no different than Icon and even only difference in them and the likes of Husky or even Pittsburg is the variety of tools. He has a nice collection but it hurts my soul to see so much money go wasted on this. You can literally buy 95% of the tools needed 5-7 different residential trades with what he wasted on this. You could buy all plumbing, electrician/electronics, painting, welding, woodworking, and mechanic tools for 400k. Enough to set up a small crew and you probably would have money to spare unless you start getting fancy.

There are cheaper and same quality tool brands made in the USA on the market. Do your research and buy what you want. Snap on is just a brand. Also, if you do your research, you will find not all snap on is made in the USA. Quality tools if taken care of will last a lifetime.

Snap On sells what they do through their loan program and dealer network. I paid premium prices for a lot of the tools and equipment I bought over the years because of that program. And I too put my Snap On dealer's kids through college. My wife and I had an agreement when we got married. We never talked about the tool bill. I will admit that at some point she would come out to the truck after a few minutes and drag me off the tool truck. All these years later she is still tolerant of my tool addiction. ;)

Its really nice, but I cant imagine what this guys charge out rate must be to spend that much on basically hand tools. Its not like these tools have been collected over a life time either, these are all relatively new, nah this is as daft as orange county motor cycles, money gone mad

Very nice setup, but with all due respect you are too young for all that money spend on tools, can't justify the hours on your belt versus what you use to work on cars

Ive been getting my job done with chinese garbage for a long time now. Hasnt been without a couple headaches but other companies warranty their shit pretty effortlessly. I have been buying some quality german tools lately and dont regret it but i dont think i can ever justify that level of spending.

The best part of this video is the shop -- the building itself. It's spacious, insulated, well-lit, painted, and probably air-conditioned.
