FINDING VINTAGE BACKROADS BARGAINS | STATEWIDE SALE WEEKEND!
Kentucky’s annual highway sales were all rescheduled for one huge October weekend! We hit as many yard sales, estate sales and community sales as we can in search of forgotten treasures and antique bargains in this video of the Hwy 68/80 400-Mile Yard Sale, which is the longest highway yard sale in the state.
Right from the start, vintage items at good values appear. A great pair of mid-century mod chrome stools goes into the car, along with tavern toppers and kitchen glass. Prices range from reasonable to ridiculously low, and we’re off to a good start!
The next stop is in Amish country, and the presence of horse drawn carriages among the cars in the lot tells us we’re in fertile picking ground. Horses and tigers seem to be our picking theme in this field, while a disturbing Star Trek collectible brings us back to the future.
Passing by Shaker villages and a strangely placed version of the Washington Monument, we pause at a flower market en route to an estate sale in a little town. Here we find the ultimate picker’s delight, an upstairs attic with piles of vintage collectibles that all the other shoppers seem to overlook! Everything from Venetian glass to genie bottles fills the box, along with some very interesting small items.
The last of our stops is on the adjacent Rollercoaster Highway sale, a new discovery to me which tantalizes with many more sales than I can possibly cram into a day’s drive. More to come next year at this annual event!
Here’s some more of what we see in this video:
German prisoner letter opener, musical decanter, chalk ware ballerinas, nodder felt tiger, Brush car planter, pocket knife, Murano console bowl, I Dream of Jeannie bottle, Florida shell lamp, farm plows, tractor manual, Viking glass, Jadeite charm cup, Quarterhorse trophies, tiger planter, Paden City bowl, carnival chalk ware horse, anvil, hanging scale, pitcher pump, potato seeder, horse collar, hardware store parts sorter, diamond point compote, Miller squirrels, Dugan dove dish, 1960s poodle figure, etc.

Trench Art is new to me, but I am a History Head & was immediately fascinated. The yellow car planter was super cool & the tiger bobblehead was cute. I had a purple cow bobblehead as a child.

"I saw a piece of Viking...", he says as they're moving along in a car at a good clip, quickly scanning the blur of tables that are probably 15 or 20 feet from the road. Only George. Teach us your ways, Sensei! lol

I was just telling George (thru my computer screen) "only you could have seen a piece of Viking glass while riding in a car and filming at the same time" and obviously I wasn't the only one thinking that. Kimberly I loved your "Sensei" comment...very funny. We all want to be you George!

My brother was a Boy Scout in 1967. For a badge, we went to a large farm in the Shenandoah Mountains. We were allowed to walk thru an old area that the farmer turned the dirt over for us to search for arrowheads. We found enough for everyone to earn a badges (8). Within 15 years it was illegal for a farmer/land owner to do that anymore. It became subject to historical digs and protections even on private lands.

You know this mask business is rather a difficult task. I have seen you with a mask on, and wearing masks are not fun. We are wearing them for protection on and on. We are all trying to do our best in this time of world wide trama. It seems right now cancel culture is just jumping on and off people . I am feeling like Joe McCarthy, Mr. Red Scare is out there again. History swings like a jet stream, and people are not perfect. No matter who you are you can be marginalized. As a disabled person, l have studied about my state sterilizing anyone with a mental disorder, back in the 1930s. The dispar of being poor in America no matter what your race, is a shame because of our societal riches. I shared many things about myself and found many people didn't understand. I feel it is more of a generational, economic, and lack of emotional understanding. When you have so many issues and no help, you are left behind. Even if you fail, you learn something. But our society is so hard to understand. Sometimes people are not perfect and need forgiveness not to be punished. Laws are important. But corrupt laws make people do things that they wouldn't normally do. When society forces people to do things that they don't want to do, that puts that person in a toxic place. It is a violation against that person's civil rights. To study civil rights is to study equallity. No matter who disagrees with you, you still have the frist amendment rights. Even if you are a multi disabled person, or anyone else. Thank you George for teaching us about our past through our utilitarian objects. I will always believe in family. I feel the same way about our society. Thank you for reading my email. Before 2017, l wasn't able to go online. Thank you to the people who care, and l forgive the ones who don't.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 3 жыл бұрын
Wow, how nicely put! I'm impressed with your depth of understanding and also your willingness to forgive. We all do so much better when we see each other as individuals and not oppositional groups. I'm so glad your disability hasn't stopped you from seeing people in a good light

Hi George I sent you a message as well, I’m hoping that I can purchase the perfume locket from you that you purchased on the Kentucky Hwy show! I’ve tried contacting you before but with no luck. This would be for a very special gift. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I learn more from you than any other youtuber! Best regards-Julia

There's a whole story about the Lincoln cabin and the Davis cabin and their being displayed somewhere and they were taken apart and put back together and pieces mixed up.

That's interesting! I'll have to see if I can verify that. It's entirely possible. Maybe we can all reintegrate that way eventually

The videography is kinda shaky, talking is unpolished and unscripted. Video wise, not well groomed. All in all, the best thing I’ve seen on KZbin today! A lot like hitting yard sales with a friend. Really enjoyed it.

I was greatly socially distanced outdoors on a windless day and did wear a mask at the indoor and crowded stops. Please remember that the magic of editing leaves many things unseen.
