ANTIQUE RESELLER PICKS 400-MILE SALE | VINTAGE SHOP WITH ME
It’s the first statewide yard sale of the season! We’re out in force and hunting hard for any vintage and reseller finds we can turn for a profit. The weather’s lovely, the sales are all over Hwy. 68/80, let’s see what we can find!
The first stop is a productive-looking gravel lot with a cluster of vendors in the middle of nowhere. Past the fire engine BBQ with a punny slogan, a tent with large ANTIQUES and FLEA MARKET signs tell us we’ve found a new shopping spot! We get to see some serious antique and vintage here, from cast iron school bells to those oilcloth baskets that used to be in every American grocery store. A telephone leads to confusion before clarity, a Nashville Flea Market dealer sells us a fun uranium glass pitcher, and we discover a new form of Snufarette. We even get to meet a camera-shy viewer before we go!
Our next stop is another new one to us, a storage yard where the old stock from a long-defunct antique store and tables of local vendors offer us more things we just can't refuse! A funky tambourine and a pencil sharpener in need of a bath whet our appetite, but the good stuff’s really inside the gate. Knowing about other regions helps our cause when a bag of Oregon depression era scrip that could sell for hundreds turns up on a table for $2! An Aladdin lamp with finial for $10 and some really stylish church fixtures go right to the van. (Speaking of church, which Madonna is which?)
The yard is an adjunct to Lake House Studio, a recently opened store of nice quality, where antiques and vintage blend with contemporary furnishings and fun new garden decor! There’s plenty of antique and vintage in here too, and we flirt with a shield mirrored 1890s music cabinet, Waterford sea life and an original Tennessee shaped license plate before buying more lamps (and a set of stools perfect for future KZbin studio filming).
Even the hardiest hunter needs a break of stillness in the midst of a crazy sale day, so we take a moment at a lakeside park before heading to our last stop of the 400-Mile Sale weekend. This haunt is familiar, a hillside on 68/80 where we find good reseller hits every year. Turns out the same group of a dozen vendors sells here every year; even though it’s day’s end, it’s still worthwhile, with Shawnee scotties and a slightly overdone stew bone or two ready to be gathered. What a great end to a great string of sales!
Here are some other things we find in this video:
Powder flask, railroad lantern, syrup dispenser, slot machines, Coke signs, reclaimed wood/acrylic tables, uranium glass, Fire Exit sign, compact, Ballonoff kitchen tin, garden arbors and rounders, oak side-by-side, oak paned bookcase, 1950s floor ashtray, wood slat trunk, outdoor sign letters, 1920s iron side table, phone sign, beaded whimsey, reticule, Santa chocolate mold, sock monkeys, Dodge radiator, Salem tea sets, mermaid fountain, PY/Ucagco shakers, tea for two set, Westmoreland green mist, 1950s porch chairs, carpenter’s chest, Elsie the Cow clock, oil can banks, Putnam’s fan, Weller Clinton umbrella stand, antique workbench, 1910s grain display cabinet, ruby epergne, 1960s wall decor, inlaid 1930s bedroom set, antler ceiling fixture, enamel and porcelain signs, dresser trays, cat s&p, hand blender, cow bell, etc.

I had a princess phone for a couple of years until I went away to college. My MIL had a beautiful cherry wood bedroom set from the late 40s. She sold it and bought a cheap looking lacquer set in the 80s. That set fell apart. My mom kept her Queen Anne set from the 40s and I now have it in my guest room and besides a few scratches it is still going strong.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you kept that set! The 1980s pieces are coming back in style but they're hard to find in good condition, we see a glut of the 1940s pieces because they rarely fell apart

Some of those depression glass measuring cups came in a box of laundry detergent to help them sell more detergent. Women loved getting something new when money was tight.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was really clever of the glass firms, they knew people were loving the depression glass so if they could put one piece in your hands, you were likely to save your pennies to buy more for the set

Recently found a pair of the exact pink Aladdin lamps in perfect condition like shown in video at Goodwill. Unfortunately, not with the original finials, but still had original harps. However, at less than $10 for the pair, not complaining, because I can still pass a decent deal to a customer while making a nice profit. 😎 Thanks for another most enjoyable video, George!

Reticula, from the Latin translates to woven metal. It's pronounced, Reh tic u la. The age can be determined by the length. The lady of means kept her collapsible fan in her reticula. As time went forward, fans became shorter and eventually passe. The reticulas followed suit. The Whiting and Davis white purse is still regarded as a reticula. I recently learned that Whiting and Davis also made jewelry.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 3 жыл бұрын
They did, I've had several pieces of their jewelry (including a key fob, currently). Your information about the reticules changing length with time makes perfect sense and is not something I'd given thought previously!

Hi George! Always look forward to your premiers! I liked that side table, too. We used to have my great-granddad's iron dinner bell...until some tornadic winds decided to convert it to iron scrap metal. Loved that dolphin pedestal next to the mermaid statue. I wish I had one of those metal wagon wheels...make a great thing to hang gourds. I have some massive gourd vines growing now. Wow! That large bell, next to the Aladdin lamp, would definitely wake you! You got a steal of a deal on those church lighting fixtures! Love that seed counter/bins! That epergne was a beaut!!! I really like those, and we have four...five...I'd have to recount to see. That barrister's bookcase, next to the bedroom suite, was fantastic. I'd love to have that! There were some super-interesting things there! Thanks for the take-along!!!

Oh, a tornado, that's a real fear where I am, they miss us but have hit just north down in the valley on a few occasions. How fun to have gourd vines, we mainly have passion fruit (which I like but can choke out other things). I was SO happy with the deal on those church fixtures! There were a lot of nice things in that last store and I did go back and buy more, although I couldn't afford the barrister's bookcase. I always look forward to your comments so I guess we're even! :)
