That and the cost to rebuild them into 7000 Series Specifications as originally planned skyrocketed.

My dad was on that very car that day and he was onboard when that clip of the door open was taken, He said we got a nice breeze and tunnel smell XD.

Those cars were built in the few years before I was born. I never got to ride them, though it's hard not to see why. That is incredibly dangerous, and something I'd expect to see on much older stock, but the fact that they've been so problematic for so long was definitely what kept them from possibly being rebuilt.

Whats shocking is that on the 4k retiring video by metroforward they show a bar graph of railcar miles traveled between delays, THE 1KS IN 2016 EXCEEDED THE 2K/3K BY LIKE 4K MILES! They could haul serious ass. The 1ks they werent in-reliable, it was just their time.
