40012 Thrash | ELR | 2024/02/10

Not the best thrash I've had from 40012, but it is my favourite Class 40 so had to be done.

This one and 40013 and 40122 used to rumble past my house in the seventies. Amazing machines, despite any shortcomings 👍 Great bit of video

agreed, best 40 around by a long mile

She may be better, but she's not in as good condition as D345 or sounding as healthy. I think D345 had a major overhaul or refurbishment sometime in her life, and she sounds really healthy, plus not as claggy as 40012. They seem to drive her more cautiously than D345, which they like to boot on the line. She sounded really off in the DMU gala, especially noticeable at idle.

@@joshwestwood3727 yep, speaking to people who repair it and there is always constant troubles with it

With 40145 it always seems to erupt into full power, but 40012 isnt always opened up full, and typically put on half and moved to lets say 80% power before being shut off again, such as this run felt like. I think the only times it were full on this run were up the ski bank and in the tunnel.
