This is the build I'm saving for on my current car. Been watching boost brothers for quite some time after some intense research and have been trying to save up for a long time now after my 944 Turbo caught fire. Engine has to go, wiring harness needs replaced. Been telling people for years how great the 2.5 5cyl is! My favorite car was 5 years back, 2011 golf 2 door. United Motorsports had an e85 kit for the 5cyl golf! All I did was bigger injectors, upgraded fuel pump, fuel rail, and tune. I cheaped out on suspension (sue me) with the Raceland Primos, 4 inches dumped on 3sdm 18x9. I still have photos of it. Made roughly 230whp and could corner like nobodies business. The only thing I never did was a short shift kit which the 2.5l golf 5spd NEEDS cause the factor throws are sloppy ass hell! Love seeing the motor get credit I swear they’re bullet proof! They sound great too!

The issue with the 07k swaps in the 944 isn’t how expensive the motor is, it’s how much they charge for the swap parts and kits for it. $6k for a swap kit without the engine management which will bring it over $8k without the haltech dash. They charge like $1400 for the upper and lower oil pan for the swap. Overall it would be cheaper to swap a cammed 5.3 and make the same power if you account for everything.
@1lowdownvw16 күн бұрын
Was literally coming here to say pretty much the same thing. $300 motor, cool. The 6 - 9kl for the kit to make said dirt cheap motor do the thing is not so cool. As bad ass as I think this is as I love damn near any motor swap that is uncommon, I feel the lead of $300 motor was a bit, well misleading.
@nathaniadearth941814 күн бұрын
@ not to mention how limited the transaxle options are for these cars. Stock NA 944 trans is tapped in the 350-400hp range if you drive it relatively hard. Turbo transaxles are getting hard to find and expensive and will hold maybe 500 “somewhat” reliably. That leaves a lot of work to get an expensive corvette t56 and torque tube in there. Could easily have 15-20k in a 07k swap with a cheap turbo to make 350whp reliably going with their kit. Not including suspension and wheels/tires you will definitely need to put the power down well and the 5-10k for a decent condition NA 944 nowadays.

Happy to see this car, drove a 944 for years. I have a Porsche 914 with a VW/Audi 1.8t big turbo and a Boxster transmission so I can relate to this experience, I would love to switch it to the 5 cylinder just for the noise! I won't really gain any power but I love the way a 5 cylinder sounds.

I don't understand the obsession with pop-up headlights. There's very little positive to them and a number of negatives. That being said most attempts to convert a pop up car to fixed don't look right at all. The Miata and the Testarossa are two examples, but this conversation looks great. Granted they just did the same thing as Porsche did but car companies can't always pull it off, like the Testarossa I mentioned above. Also I'd normally say that the only two swaps anyone should consider with a 944 is the LS or a K series, but this actually makes sense.
