I have a feeling it may be, in part, the sunken cost fallacy. It's like a gambler who won't leave a slot machine after hours of dropping money into it with no return because eventually it has to pay off. I watched the full video from start to finish. I have reasons to believe this video is fake and that the people are actors. The story doesn't make sense. Think about it for a second. This is a channel dedicated to cat fishing which is essentially people scammed. The guy in the video came on the show through his own volution. He goes after women who are far and disconnected from his life, who are very good looking, and I think it's unintentionally a way to remain safe. Talking to a girl who would never be interested and is obviously way too good looking, as well as live too far away anyway, is a way to get attention from a woman without risking it going too far, where you'll get hurt. On top of that, if it really does succeed he uses her as a crutch to get an ego boost from other people. He's obviously also very much trying to live the saviour fantasy where the only reason a woman would love him is if he "saves" her. I think this also shows low self confidence, as he can't really see other value in himself. Don't forget that a common sign of a lack of self esteem is acted overconfidence.

Depressed people tend to blame themselves, rather than others, although I admit this isn't always the case. In regards to low self-esteem... Again, possibly. Although, again, nothing he said indicated that. People with low self-esteem tend not to aim high, largely because they're both convinced they will fail and are convinced they aren't worth it. However, everything he DID say, is more akin to Narcissistic Personality Disorder- high expectations of others, a tendency to blame others for your failings, a lack of self-reflection and introspection (both things a person with depression tends to do far too much of), and a tendency to not see or comprehend your own limitations or need for improvement. But you're right, he MAY just be depressed.

They will often say they live close and will be “back in town soon.” He needs to immediately block anyone who keeps trying to talk to him and can’t meet. You must not let loneliness break down boundaries. Honestly these people are not cut out for online dating. They are simply too desperate and probably don’t like people in their looks range. That’s why it’s hard to feel sorry for them. Why doesn’t he just pay for only fans or go to a strip club? They can tell from his profile he's 40 ish, REALLY lonely, a gamer and a sci fi nerd. They send him pics of a Playboy model with glasses, a messy bun and a pencil behind her ear and he falls for it. It's sad. The scammers are getting better at this all the time, and our social media profiles give them EVERYTHING they need to know about us. Be careful, people! You don't need social media...but if you use it, use it smart.

It’s important to use online dating as a supplement to real world dating. That way you can gauge what kind of girl likes you and you can tell what kind of girls you can like. The fact he never met someone even remotely close to this and believes he hit a goldmine really tells me he’s way too desperate. The average guy would probably never be able to date a supermodel in her 20s and even if he could he’d be smart enough to avoid getting scammed by a fake one.

It's all a matter of perspective. He's right that it's an addiction, and if sending some Nigerian man all of his money gives him a dopamine pop just like a shot of her01n or line of coke does for an addict, then from his standpoint it's totally sane and #worthit. To the fraudster it is of course totally sane and actually pretty awesome as they have him primed and trained to hand over the money with less and less effort as time goes on. It's a mutually beneficial economic transaction, even if it appears from the outside looking in to be exploitative. Maybe it is? Drug addiction looks insane to everyone who isn't a dealer or crack smoker, but for those on the inside it's just a high risk but exciting lifestyle with perceived benefits to all participants. Fun and fulfilling!This dorky dorkwad McDorkface catfish victim here seems to us like somewhat who needs to literally be physically shaken back into reality (like, grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him whilst yelling at him to return to reality), but from where he stands, this is his lifestyle that he uses his own money (at least for now) to finance and he feels that it is worth it. We all know he still sends money to this scammer or some other, and unless and until he starts robbing people or banks to finance it, I say we just let him have his fun - just like I feel about c-c-cr-cr-crack h-h-h-heads!
