When I got out of the Army I went to work for a tow company in the mountains. My truck was a 65 IH 1310, I think. It had a holmes split boom on the back with two PTO-driven winches and an electric winch on the front. When that truck was chained up it was unstoppable, well almost. I did some impossible things with that truck! Good times and peaceful days now long gone!

I can add trivia about the two "can" lights/flashers mounted on the headache rack. As now, a retired police officer, I saw a lot of those type of lights, and rotating beacons, made by the same company in the 70's and 80's. Some were on patrol vehicles I drove. They were made by E & H Machine works in Oregon City, Oregon. They made, and sold, emergency vehicle equipment back in the day and sold a lot to OR and WA police agencies.

When I was in HS in Junction City, Or. A guy in town had a 72 or73 short wide 4X4 International. It was yellow and white, and I loved that truck! Wish I knew if it was still alive. Thanks for saving them! Todd Konoske the retired trucker.

Just now seeing this ..I would love to have this truck. For what I do it would look perfect in my driveway.. I had a 73 scout 20 years ago and loved it. The old internationals are hard to find here in Virginia. Most have already rotten.

Loved the stories behind this truck and sure would of loved to see it in its hay days when the bucket seats and console was still in it. I had the 75 model with the 345 and five speed, two wheel drive and two speed, I am thinking it was a 1700 but its been a while.... I got it cause no one could start it. Guy had worked on it for a week, was losing his mind and temper.... I tell him it will not only run but run as well as it ever did if the motor is good and he calls me on it and said its yours for two thousand if you can start it now. I went over and got my small little tool set so to have a small set of wrenches... pulled the cap off of it and noted the position of the rotor.... found no. one on the engine compression. Then pulled the points out and sanded the base where the points went in clean.. cleaned all of the wiring up in it. Named a spot on the distributor as no one for me, and wired it right for where it was at. Put my starter jumper on it with a hot wire to the coil and pressed the button. It rolled over a half a turn and was running smooth. I unhooked the hot to the coil and it dies so went to the ballast resistor and took it off and seen it was burnt out so jumped it temporarily. Got in the cab an hit the switch and it started right back up. I dug in my pocket an found the last of my little hoard of cash an counted out two thousand... He was still shaking his head when I used the winch in the dump bed an loaded my pick up on its back and drove it home!

It would be so fun to drive that truck!! IH always offered lots of HD options, the five speed with OD fifth was the reverse pattern with 4th Direct over and back and 5th OD where 4th is normally, with a 2spd rear 4th Direct and high in the 2spd was a higher gear than 5th OD and low in the 2spd.

4:20 The RA-15 has a GAWR of 7,500, not 15,000. The front axle is a Dana 70 closed knuckle, which is equally as (or possibly slightly weaker being closed knuckle) strong as a open knuckle dana 60, both rated at 4,500 GAWR. This front Dana 70 was used by both Dodge and International as it was the only viable option (Dana 60 open knuckle didn't come out until the mid/late 70s). Chevy and Ford didn't start offering factory 1 ton 4x4s until the late 70's due to it being a niche market at the time (also after the Dana 60 open knuckle was introduced). The International had the same GVWR as ever other DRW 1 ton at the time, 10,000.

Do you know Phil Coonrod or nickname Fly Rod? I've known him for years. He retired from IH in Fort Wayne. He told me he selling all his IH scout parts. Probably has the biggest collection of scouts and parts in the US. Been dealing in old scouts and parts for years. Lives in Colorado now. He use to work with a lot of my uncles at the Fort Wayne plant and is a big part of the IH show every year. I think half my relation worked there in skill trades and and on the line. Several of my uncles panted those scouts and use to say a lot of the metal would be stored outside and would have rust before they where even painted. I worked at Dana where the use to build the axles for IH trucks and scouts.

Cool truck ! I recently came across one of these that was going to be scrapped! I bought it to keep it from getting crushed. While it’s in decent shape for a northern truck , it does need some sheet metal repairs ( floors , wiper cowl/rain gutter has rust , and minor cab corner repair . DOES ANYONE MAKE/ SELL BODY PANELS FOR THESE RIGS ? I’ve never seen one of these trucks anywhere around here and can’t seem to find restoration parts online. Any help would be appreciated.
