I graduated from UNOH in 2010 with a HIPO/Auto/Business Degree, this is awesome to see! I remember Mr. Higgins well and I caught a glimpse of Mr. Lucius…brought back a lot of memories from Lima, OH! I’m an emergency vehicle fleet manager now but still love horsepower and watching yalls engine builds!

About 20 years ago now. I used those same heads on an approx. 420cid streetbound pump gas engine. It was a .040 over 2 bolt factory block. With studded mains and a partial block fill. Went with a 3.875 stroke Scat 9000 series crank, and their 7/16" capscrew 6" I beam rods. Speed Pro Hyperuetectic Street Performance pistons, with a TotalSeal gapless ring kit. Hydraulic roller cam and lifters from Comp. Believe it was a fuel injection friendly grind of around 240° at .050 with under .600" lift. Made my Burnt Orange '73 Nova sound pretty rowdy.

I do like the motown block, and the reason is the oiling system. Main galley splits out to feed lifter galleys at the same time [not sequentially], and... priority mains never hurt. But 75psi while priming... maybe the high volume pump was not necessary?
@DMWatson-qc6mz3 ай бұрын
...my thoughts exactly. We used to run a standard big block pump with a shortened oil drive shaft....and we would actually get great oil pressure. Then my driver got ahold of a "high volume" big block pump....and decided he'd like to try that. After grinding the gear off of the distributor and camshaft a few times from excessive torque on the engine...we definitely went back to a lower volume pump.

And if you win, that winnings has to go back into your car the next day cause tech tears the engine down to catch you cheating.
