15:42 "New York Post Office 1962": The clothing and hair styles suggest the picture is much earlier than 1962.

The last picture of the youthful people in "the Empire strikes back" . All of the pictures make me realize how fast time goes and how styles change.

That is indeed an 'unusual' view of Times square at 19;26 as it is the Flatiron Bldg. and 20 blocks south of Times Square.

Always enjoy these old photos and seeing how life was like back then. Also thanks for playing Waltz of the Flowers, one of my favorites by Tchaikovsky.

Some of the captions are very vague or just guesses. ‘Woman on a bicycle’ looked like a fat lady circus performer. I really like seeing old photos but also want the information to be accurate.

Yeah, me too. Usually has some GREAT pics, though. There was also one of a manual "red light" with a caption that read something like, "Two women shortly after voting", then had the same caption with the actual picture a couple of photos after. Still, great pictures, and gotta appreciate the time and effort to present them!

3:41 This boy would have loved to have new jeans without holes, now they are happy to wear jeans with holes because it's fashion...😮 So sad how working class people lived in poverty... it's even sadder that many people around the world still have to live like this....😢

I am single, childless and 62, most of my family is dead and have found that if you live in the past well...no one cares, and you live in limbo until you join them...best to live for the moment.

When I was in junior high school I started reading Hot Rod Magazine, mid 1960s. I remember an article about how to modify the 1963 Corvette to accept the 1964 and later one piece rear window glass. I wonder how many people did that.

I wonder if the brownstone shown in the first picture is still there! if the walls could talk, I would listen!! I can smell the bookshop in Bloomsbury!! a small error at 19:54= unless the traffic director is looking at them in the mirror? the boxer on the right looks like James Whitmore-- or it's the other way around? or it is James Whitmore? o, there they are, 'the 2 women minutes after voting'! =P =-) I'm kinda partial to the picture of Einstein and his friend sitting on the rock, because it reminds me of the picture of Einstein wearing fuzzy slippers while sitting on a porch step. I'd like a print of that one! thanks 40 Historical Files for another great group of pictures!!

@@kathysenn7664 It was one of those first glance things. I’ve seen so many photos over my own 75 years of the young Kennedy’s (JFK’s & sibs) playing sports outdoors with one another, that when the photo came up, that’s what I first thought. But, yeah, you’re right, on second glance, not so much! Yes, I love looking at the old photos…only some pop up that aren’t all that “old” to this old lady! 👵🏼😁! Are you in Canada? Be safe, wherever you are, especially if you’re in heat! We are on the Olympic Peninsula where 78-85 is a heatwave! 🙋🏻‍♀️🌸

I found the location of the brownstone in Google Maps street view - the housing behind the 1913 house is still there today, i.e. on 56th and 58th streets. The brownstone is no longer there. Looks like the whole block was replaced with stores or apartment buildings.

Only two percent were excluded. The rest were mostly allowed in after a few hours. There were no quotas until the 1920s and first discriminatory laws were passed in the late 1800 against the Chinese. Seventy percent of current immigrants are legal. However, 30% are illegal because of the process needs fixing. So it is actually harder now, especially with technology.

@hjusn Thanks for saying this. Trumpists, who are likely descendants of immigrants, have no idea what the process was.

: The child didn’t arrive by itself; a family with a child is more on point : The family _is_ doing something with watermelon-they’re eating it! : 3:01 since you don’t know where the family is, you don’t really need to mention it’s “somewhere,” because No Duh. (The infant is absolutely gorgeous, despite being colorized.) : I don’t understand how Mickey Rooney managed to land one of the most beautiful women ever born! : Mr. Sergeant worked very hard for his 💵💵💵 : Two little girls playing with _a_ doll : Unless otherwise mentioned, I have to believe these are Dorothy Lange’s work : The switch from Tchaikovsky’s _The Nutcracker Suite_ to Satie’s _Gnossiennes_ was rather abrupt given there wasn’t any discernible change in content : Does anyone else think Henry Ford looks vaguely like Abraham Lincoln? : I had no idea that hops were such ginormous plants! : I made it on to the GGBridge-but couldn’t even make it to the south tower when they closed it on its 50th anniversary. Given that the bridge flattened out and there was worry it might not recover, I have to assume that the 100th anniversary will be celebrated with fireworks or some such like. The building down below the bridge is Fort Point. : To any young people watching this, Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller are Ben Stiller’s parents : That bunch of post office lines makes me really glad we moved to the single-line approach…I can remember the frustration of choosing a line that proved to be on the slower side : Albert Einstein has some nice looking gams! : One of those Smith College singers wasn’t “resting,” she was totally conked! : Those boxers are _not_ evenly matched! : Helmbold’s interior is absolutely stunning! : Does anyone know where that building the Corvette is in is located? : The 1908 firemen are quite a natty looking bunch : It hadn’t occurred to me that the sailors would be paid in cash, but it totally makes sense. : Soooo…where are the voting women? : Re: the Young Men Boxing by the railroad tracks…is that during the Great Depression? : That split window on the Corvette…why? : If I ever noticed that Mark Hamill is left-handed, it has completely slipped my mind! : I think “affected you most” is much friendlier than “impacted you most” because it cannot possibly be construed as “which comment fell out of the sky and knocked you unconscious,” which is what I end up imagining.

3:27 THAT is a motorized circus bike. SHE is an 'off-duty' Circus performer in street clothes. It *COULD* be Celesta Geyer (née Herrmann; July 18, 1901-February 19, 1982) who was an American woman most famous for being the circus fat lady known as Dolly Dimples (also Bonnie Sonora and Jolly Dolly Geyer). She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S. Weighing 555 lbs and losing 440 lbs.

15:47 NO D***ned way this is 1962. BTW, the individual with the blonde curly hair IS A *MALE* . I was born in 1962. People, if they dressed this way the year I was born, *radically* changed fashions in ten years. This is more 1922; in fact, the woman in the foreground is more like 1918 with the elaborately coiffed hair and beaded 'Russian' blouse . Women did NOT wear their hair like that in 1962, and those hats.
