Love this trailer. I see this was posted about a year ago but this question seems to have been left unanswered. As a hotshot trailer rated at 40k, what kind of vehicle is legal to pull this? Wouldn't it have to have a GCWR > 40k + the GVWR of the truck? The Ram 3500 dually HO Diesel has a GVWR of 14k, plus the 40k of the trailer totals 54k which exceeds it GCWR. I'm sure it could easily tow the trailer plus it's cargo, but it would get stopped for being Overweight for excess GCWR. What kind of hotshot vehicle can legally tow this?

You can use a 3500/4500/5500 or single screw semi. We have many customers pulling this 40K trailer with these sizes of trucks on the daily. 👍 The 14K GVWR is that truck and it’s contents that’s not the tow rating. A 2022 Ram 3500 high output is 37,090 tow rating. www.ramtrucks.com/ram-3500/capability.html

if this trailer is rated at 40k gvwr and and a Ram 5500 is rated at 19500k gvwr Do I need to register my truck at 59500k gvwr?

That’s a great question! A great example is the late model Dodge 3500 has a tow rating of 37,000lbs. Then from there you have the 4500/5500s as well as the single axle semis being used as well.

I am going to make some assumptions and generalities here. A 40' GN is generally about 10k pounds. Your system saves about 1500 pounds. Then you add those ramps, the hydraulics and the box to hold it. Is it safe to say those options added most of that weight back to the trailer? So this particular trailer is right at the 10k pound mark? Just to be clear, i am in no way talking bad about it. In a business where you get paid and fined on what the scale ticket shows, this will be the question that gets asked. I own 2 Diamond C trailers and looking at another one, although not a FMAX.

The 1500lbs savings is as compared to comparably equipped structural beam trailer. So if you had a straight deck (not Max Ramps) with standard jacks (no hydraulics) it would still be 1500lbs lighter than a comparable structural beam trailer. Hope this helps!

Peace question for FMAX216, isn't trailer GVWR 40K useless, because DOT officer will check lowest value specs which is each axle is 16K meaning total 32K. So best accurate & proper fit GVWR trailer if derated lower to 32K, right? Enlighten me. Peace. God bless you all.
