What I love about this is that, with a slight tweak to the paper plants used this is also a super realistic woodland base (which is what I was actually looking for when I found this video!) Liked and subscribed!

Very realistic; I like these paper plants that one can get these days. I use photo etched plants like ferns from some model railroad manufacturers, they need a little bit more work since they are brass and require an etch prime before painting. A bit late for my comment for an old vid.

If I can give anyone a tip. If you are superglueing any flat surface to another relative flat surface. Try to either make a lil hole or even cuts on the even surfaces. It helps the glue settle and adhere more strongly. Also prevents it from breaking off from falling etc.

Very new to the hobby. How would you attach a mini to this base? It seems like the mini would fall off easily when you glue it to the extra stuff on the base.
@theminiaturemen40k
@theminiaturemen40k 3 жыл бұрын
Great question, for scenic bases you’ll want to drill and pin the model. Essentially you drill a tiny hole in the bottom of the foot and on the base and use a small piece of a paper clip to connect the two. It sounds complex but it’s actually super easy

Excellent tutorial! Would you spray the foliage with a glue/water mix or varnish to hold the scatter in place or is the original coat enough?

One question, which varnish would you use and at which stage ? I always have the issue of varnish either dulling down my colours or being too shiny :(
@theminiaturemen40k
@theminiaturemen40k Жыл бұрын
I use Testors dull cote on most things. Ak ultra matte if I want something super dull. For these bases you don’t need a varnish but it would help hold down the scatter foliage some so I would do it after that stage but before doing the paper plants.

Do you just superglue the minis on the painted base?
@theminiaturemen40k

If you have a flat enough area you can superglue them but pinning the model works best

Used this technique for my new leviathan tyranids and it turned out phenominal right up until i used the scatter. Yours looks so legit and leaf like but the one i got was more like sand. What brand did you use because i cant see the lid.

I used one by greenstuffworld called scatter foliage beige. I’ve also heard people having good results with the contents of teabags or just going down the spice isle if you’re in a bit of a rush

www.dioramapresepe.com/en/prodotto/perfect-roots-for-dioramas/ Here’s one site that sells them. Another thing you can do is go to a store that sells plants and ask if they have any they died. They usually just toss them out daily. Search diorama roots and you can probably find other sellers

You can also go to your local hardware store and ask if they have any dead plants in the garden section. They just throw them out otherwise
