Magnus The Red. The one that did nothing wrong :P. Really tho, I think he is the only one that got betrayed, not the other way around. He might have done some things better, but pretty much all he did was for good. Even if he screwed up by breaking the webway project, he did it to warn the Emperor of Horus Heresy, the event that shaped the future of the Imperium. And then, after he knew he effed up, he awaited his punishment, and only fought back once he saw his sons' suffering. And then, after he suffered at the SWs hands, instead of plotting revenge, he simply strived to save knowledge of Prospero. His psychic prowess also was quite impressive. In Master Of Prospero he shattered few Baneblades in fight, it's mentioned that he fought off Ork Gargant 1-on-1 in Thousand Sons, and he teleported huge amount of people at once during Space Wolves assault on Prospero. He was such a bad ass, and nice too.

@maxpower39906 жыл бұрын
@@DoctorM42 they're not his kids. They're sentient weapons the Emperor created to conquer the galaxy for humanity and starve the Chaos Gods. The whole Primarch project was flawed. Why did the Emperor allow the Primarchs to be taken off world? We saw Horus go back in time and wreck the place in one of the first Horus Heresy books and the Emperor does nothing. How did all the Primarchs land on human world's throughout the galaxy that was perfectly suited to them? What happened to No.2 an 11?
@maxpower39906 жыл бұрын
@Zach cash the Primarchs were hyper intelligent, centuries old individuals, but still couldn't grow beyond their personality flaws. The first time that daddy didn't tell them everything they winge and break all his stuff. That is one hell of a temper tantrum. A soldier knows that secrets are kept from him to protect him, or simply because he doesn't need to know. Especially in the case of the Imperial Webway project it was still being researched. Horus, as Warmaster, knew and had authority about every military decision, to use the Life Eater virus, to change Russ's orders to kill instead of capturing Magnus, and the codes to open the Vault on Mars were forbidden tech was kept, he even warned them about warp Xenos(demons). Explaining about the Webway would have led to talking about its Old One creators, and it is hard to continue to believe that Humanity is destined to conquer the galaxy when you get an accurate picture of how small and insignificant they are. The Imperial Webway project would have also made all of the Navigator houses obsolete and they probably would have been purged on the Emperor's orders soon after as they turn into hideous mutants later in life. If this information gets outs before the Emperor is ready then every Navigator may go on strike and flee. That would make it impossible to have long distance travel in the warp fracturing and destroying the Imperium like another Age of Strife.

My favourite in 40k psyker is Magnus the Red for several key reasons. Magnus should have been the hero of the Horus Heresy and fought by the Emperor's side during the darkest hour. His father had barred psykers in the Imperium, even though he, hypocritically, was a psyker himself and understood the creative potential of the Warp. This did not keep Magnus from utalizing his natural powers and his own knowledge of the Warp to forsee the coming crisis. He used his powers to block out chaotic influences from Horus's mind, which unfortunately was bypassed by chaos agents when Horus was injured and sent to heal. Up to the moment of Horus's betrayel, Magnus had expected something to happen and when it did he attempted to warn his father, and while this did not work (to say the least), Magnus had the best intentions of saving his father's Imperium. Following Magnus's failed attempt to warn of Horus's betrayel and instead frame himself as the arch traitor, Magnus understood the gravity of his actions and was willing to face the consequences- willing to give up his own life and the lives of his space marines as penitence when the Space Wolves arrived above Prospero. It was only by the actions of a chaos spy within the Space Wolves legion that this was not communicated to Leman Russ, launching an invasion of Prospero in impatience. Even still, with his homeworld burning, his people dying and his legionaries falling, Magnus refused to fight, showing true loyalty to his father and a restraint for such dangerous powers as chaos magic against his brother. It would not be until the final moment, when the last of the Thousand Sons legion was cornered, that Magnus released his restraint on his powers and engaged his brother in combat. Both Magnus and Russ took massive damage but ultimately Magnus retreated, him and his legionaries cast as traitors by no will of their own. Magnus is an incredibly powerful psyker who used his powers for good, and had his father been more open with him on the nature of chaos than perhaps he could have been the underdog hero of the war and not felt it necessary to turn to the evil side of chaos. By loyalty (to a point) and restraint, Magnus proves to be my favourite psyker, and one of my favourite characters of the 40k universe. My email: sully.micheals@gmail.com

Ezekiel of the Dark Angels. Honestly his history during the fight of Sularian Gate on Kholorn is amazing. Using his psyker talents to show up and fight off the orks on the wall up until the point he took a round to the dome losing an eye in the process. Then to come back 12 hours later with a crude bionic eye and go into one on one combat with the ork Warboss Gorblonik. His victory by blinding the warboss and the subsequent removal of his head. Don't particularly care about the free merch, but hands down, it'd be Malcador the Sigillite. He may not have done anything grandiose like enslave a planet or blast someone with lightning, while screaming about unlimited power, but humanity would be doomed without him. Not just because of his sacrifice upon the golden throne during the Horus Heresy, but the fact that he founded the Administratum, the Officio Assassinorum, the Adeptus Astronomica and the Inquisition - organizations without which the imperium would be absolutely fucked after the heresy. Not to mention being one of the few people the big E not only trusted, but looked to for guidance. Malcador was in a unique position to screw with him - he had vast resources at his disposal, millenia to prepare and psychic powers only surpassed by Magnus and the emperor himself and, most importantly, his trust. But instead he chose to defy the cliches and become one of the greatest bros in 40k and one of humanity's great saviors.
@samuelgallagher57486 жыл бұрын
They call him Malcador the Hero these days for a reason, eh? Interesting short story... www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/82i496/the_emperor_trying_to_anger_malcador/ It's from "The Board is Set" by Gav Thorpe EDIT: Ok, people are asking for more so here it is. Malcador started to consider the board again. ‘I cannot play like Horus, I do not have his mind, his motivations.’ ‘Then I will assist you.’ Revelation reached into the game box and His fingers reappeared holding a new piece, one never seen before. It was shaped like a jester of the most ancient days, complete with gormless expression. Real, tiny cap-bells tinkled as Revelation shook it. ‘This is you, Malcador. The Fool. I have used you for millennia to suit my own purposes and before the end I will discard you without a second thought.’ ‘I know what you are doing,’ said Malcador. ‘You think to make me angry, like Horus.’ ‘You exist only to further my ambitions, a callous on the toe of history and nothing more,’ said Revelation, not making the slightest sign that He had even listened to what Malcador had said. ‘You are just an invisible, nondescript foundation stone in the edifice that will be my undying glory. I have lied to you from the very first moment, and all that you believe of me, of the universe and mankind’s part in it, is fiction. I have manipulated you, abused you and I will toss you away without a single shred of care. One of my legionaries has more consideration for a bolt that he fires than I do for you, Malcador.’ Swallowing hard, the Regent reminded himself of what he had just said - that Revelation was trying to elicit an emotional response. And yet when he looked into the gaze of Revelation, he saw only implacable, unflinching truth. He had never harboured dreams of glory or even ambitions of temporal power, but Malcador had believed himself valuable. He had taken strength from being counsellor and… advisor to the greatest intellect the human species had ever created? An aid to the most gifted psychic being ever born? Companion to an immortal who had lived a thousand lifetimes? ‘I see that you are starting to understand.’ A hint of a sneer marred Revelation’s expression. He gestured towards the pieces set between them. ‘My sons were taken from me, whispered to during transit to set dark thoughts in their minds. Temptations. Lies. Propaganda. Tell me, Malcador the Sigillite, how many times have you resisted the efforts of our enemy’s lures?’ The Regent did not answer, for the Dark Gods had never attempted to sway him. They had occasionally, and very recently, sought his death, but that was not a distinction he uniquely held. A brutal, short bark of a laugh made him flinch. ‘You thought yourself too loyal? Your faith in me unshakable? They did not try to recruit you because you have nothing to offer them.’ ‘I have created much for you, in your name,’ said Malcador in a wavering tone, searching for clarity. ‘There would be no Imperium without my efforts.’ ‘In my name.’ Never had three words sounded so scornful. ‘You are a master of tax collectors and clerks. No Imperium without you? No Malcador without the Imperium, you mean. What justification would there be to keep you around without your countless army of bureaucrats to sustain you? Even my Remembrancers - poets and pict-takers - contributed more to the Great Crusade than you did.’ He felt a tear roll down his cheek, his whole body quivering with shame. Malcador looked at Revelation with silent pleading and was rewarded with a contemptuous sigh. ‘Some call you my left hand.’ Revelation held up the five digits and wiggled them. ‘It is true. That is all you have ever been, an extension of my will. I twitch a thought and you act. I care nothing for the hopes and fears of my little finger, and less still for yours.’ Malcador opened his mouth but could think of nothing to say. ‘Do not stare at me like some docile ruminant. You said you fear failing me, but the truth is that you know that you already have. You cannot even bring yourself to hate me when I need you to.’ Revelation tossed the playing piece aside. It shattered against the wall. He did not even spare a glance for the discarded fragments. There was no hint of remorse in His hard stare. Malcador looked at the splintered pieces of the Fool. Betrayal slid a hot knife in his chest. Its fire spread, enflaming his anger. And one thought burned hotter than any other: that Revelation thought he might care about any of what He had said....

Magnus' sins were grave, but he committed them either unwittingly or unwillingly (or both), and as such deserves a chance to be redeemed and return to the Emperor's light.

My favorite Psyker is definitely Inquisitor Eisenhorn. I greatly enjoy the books I have about him and even though he is a Psyker he can still hold his own without using his powers. Sure he may not be the most powerful compared to the others on this list but that is what makes him a more down to earth character compared to someone like the Emperor (who I pray to and give praises to everyday please don't blam me Mr Commissar)

Either the Emperror or one of his son - Conrad Curze are my favorite psykers. Emp - by the facts that he wooped ass of Void Dragon (or one of his shards) thanks to the mind bullets or by repairing a badly damaged Knight just by touching it :P Kurze .... well his ability to see prophetic visions of death and despair, were part of his psyker gift so yeah. It sounds kinda awesome but mostly terrible. Have a great week!

My favorite psyker is Gideon Ravenor, his trilogy was one of the things that introduced me to 40k and I really like his character and the team he works with. Him being kept alive by a sarcophagus but also having incredibly strong psychic powers created an interesting dynamic in those novels. The other thing i liked about him was his radical nature, always quick to hunt the heretic but not so blind and arrogant that he wouldn't take the help of an Eldar (or other Xenos tech and knowledge) to track and fight his enemies.

The more I learn about 40K the more intriguing it is. I'm a bit intimidated to start with the books since I'm not sure which one is best to start with. But these lore videos are really cool and interesting. This one in particular has helped me ultimately decide the outcome of a "Can such-and-so compete with 40K" debate, namely surviving a battle with a Psyker, I suspected the answer was, no they wouldn't survive, from the start, but its convenient that this came out today to help me confirm it rather than jumping to conclusions like a dope. Keep it up, I love these.

I really hope they expand more on him maybe make a horus heresy novel with him as the main character so we get more insight as to his reasons for going traitor, i'm sure it has something to do with horus being close to him.

My favorite psyker is Ahriman of the Thousand Sons (30k) I haven't read any of the 40k books save the inquisitor series, but Ahriman in "A Thousand Sons" is a fantastic character. His warrior-scholar mentality embodies my idea of what a successful person should be (even if he can come off as arrogant). Ahriman is incredibly intelligent and second only to Magnus and the Emperor, yet we see through his eyes the failure of someone he believed infallable, and this shatters his entire idea of himself and his legion. Ahriman just had a fantastic character arc and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to that book.

My favourite Psyker is the one in Dawn of War I. Such a glorious mess insanity and suffering added with that screeching voice sells the image of a person whose mind is in the process of being torn apart little by little by the power that he holds and the dark whispers of Chaos. Few Pskyers are depicted in such a way in common 40K, as they are mostly Inquisitors and Librarians who control their powers in a much stronger degree than a common psyker ever could, a Librarian might think that Psykers are not to be feared but in reality most of them would turn out to be crazy people such as this one making the whole "Purge the Mutant" Sentiment a little more understandable. "What can be done with the Warp" is essentially akin to lucid dreaming, your belief and understanding of the process you're trying to create dictates how much or how little it can be done... when I was younger I realized that even though I lucid dream often, I was unable to fly in my dreams because my subconscious knowledge that it was simply impossible in real life, and therefor I had to envision a way that it could hypothetically be done, no matter how fantastical the process, as long as I could convince my brain that it COULD be done somehow... that belief in and of itself, and the convincing myself thereof, was the key to actually doing it, even though the structure of a lucid dream could theoretically allow literally anything to occur.

Infuse into oxygen 3. Push forward 4. Detonate...instant fireball...just don't EVER skip step 3....

Iskandar Khayon is my favorite. Throwing a 2 Km ship at a city and also completely annihilating some space wolves and well as a champion with unbridled power was sick. Immolating the body within a suit of armor, aging a body 10,000 years in just heartbeats and completely unmaking a greater deamon to just strings of emotion.

Eldrad Ulthran, the eyes of fate unseen. I mean the guy essentialy got a better view of the future than anyone else. Is freaking old in a galaxy where everything is out to murder one another, and he might actually become a Phoenix Lord. Thats gotta count for something, although I wonder just how broken he would become as a Phoenix Lord. Anyway, love your videos Arch, looking forward to more lore, most of what I know about 40k came from you.

I would say Malcador the Hero, but not necessarily due to his power. More like the precise lack of overt psyker powers. While we see him use abilities throughout the HH, and of course his epic sacrifice at the height of the Siege of Terra, Malcador represented the ability of a human to not be defined by his psychic power. A true polymath, perhaps second only to the Emperor.
