I agree. The ability to take whatever path you want with the lore is a great perspective.

That's what my friend group is doing: 40k lore using OPR rules. I was hoping to run a short campaign on a Tyranid invasion on an Ork planet. It's my dream to organise an Armageddon campaign for my friend group uaing OPR, and I hope that is achievable in a few years.

We went to OPR 3 years ago and never looked back. We pick and choose the 40k lore and we stick to the Old World.

For me 40k lore stops at Papa Smurf ressurection, or even a little bit earlier. Coul, primaris marines and cadia destructions is all out of bounds for me

I started playing in 5th edition and read a lot of the novels up to about 8th. Then the game shifted into a state that wasn't fun to play in 9th edition. Now I play OPR.

The primarchs returning is a symptom of the bad lore, they could have introduced them better but there are deeper problems with the lore than just the primarchs

If you have a small, closed group of friends that agree, go for it. If you are playing with larger, open groups, it’s not an option.

True! But that is the good thing about OPR. You can play it many different ways.

The beauty of OPR is that you can truly make it your own. I personally don't want anything to do with GW. I prefer the freedom OPR brings to create my own paths.

The OPR lore is solid and I think alot could be done in that lore. I'd love for them to expand on their lore more...which they are doing :)

I hate how admech is positioned in the lore right now. Every time the admech character is mentioned in the lore 9/10 he is from Mars. All the other forge worlds don't exist or are poorly built. All of them except Stygies VII have the same view as Mars. So I'm making my own forge world. with 30k tech + 40k tech. Isolated for 5000 years, and with the power of a neutron star, they deal with everyone and fight with everyone.

RT/2ed ex-player hear and I agree on the SpaceMarines becoming too powerful. They were always very limited numbers and powerful because other factions like uprising humans were still at kevlar vest and assault rifle levels of technology. Fitted much better into the punk/80s aesthetic of an oppressive regime and lots of different factions / motivations / build-your-own war band….but that was too hard to monetise.

I loved those days. It feels like everything revolves around the primarchs.

I don't mind the destruction of Cadia or the 13th Black Crusade, but the Primaris are just too obvious as a lore justification for GW's preferred model sales strategy. I think the Primarchs' return was a mistake because 1) they work better as mythical figures for a fallen modern imperium, and 2) GW doesn't have the nerve to make the big shakeups to their setting that returned Primarchs require. IMO between the Primarch's return and Maelstrom going bonkers the Imperium should fragment into rival successor states. But to the extend that I have a headcannon for my scifi games it's the one I use for my TTRPG games as well, borrowing elements from Stellaris, Stargrave, Starfinder, and Stars Without Number.

Oh, and in my mind Space Marine factions all get a 0 added to their numbers--normal chapters are 10k instead of 1k which lets them act like like actual military units without being crippled by a few dozen KIA.

Yea the 1k limit is just silly. I much prefer them to be actual military forces rather than superheroes.

40k lore ? Which version ? I'd start with the Rogue Trader lore and build from there. I mean that was the point originally anyways, it was a setting to build your own stories. GW lost the plot sometime around 4th or 5th edition.
@NexusWargaming
@NexusWargaming 2 ай бұрын
Exactly! I remember the lore was meant to be unknown and forgotten so you could custom build your own faction. My favorite lore is 2nd edition codexes. I fell in love with Eldar then.

The constant changes to opr rules is getting annoying, made a 2000 point list, now all the points are different again before i wven painted it all. I'll just ga back to 40k 3rd edition that doesn't change its rules every 3 months or so.
