What's funny to me is he said "sometimes navigators can override ship captain's orders if they think it's too risky to travel" meanwhile I just watched a video of a ship captain ordering a commisar to execute their navigator for being a coward and trying to stop them.
@youknow_nothing Жыл бұрын
@@theotv5522 you mean a video where a female captain says "commisar, due your duty" or something like that? If that's the case then i think that's a video for Battlefleat Gothic 2 and the executed person was a simple officer or crew member. Navigator's are quite rare and i doubt a Capitan or Admiral would execute them, otherwise they lose their only way to navigate the warp.

It's very much battletech or halo writing to show both that regular humans even when minor characters can have the will to save the day whilst also showing that sometimes a sacrifice isn't enough. The unsc savannah and that one comguard pilot at tukkayid did the same. Granted tukkayid was a victory but still the sacrifice didn't do much

The earliest manifestation of what would become the Goddess of luxary and decadance was that ancient human Pop group of 'corporial entertainment', that of ABBA. The 'Dancing Queen' being the female Goddess of excess in her first sound form. Later the 'Noise Marines' played distorted versions of that song and to depress the loyalists, 'Waterloo'- Unofficial Lore true but no less true for that! 'A BAD 'UN' is the ignorant Orks mangled version. So Git GOOD humie!!

Thank you Luetin for addressing the geographical scale of the Eye of Terror! I've always had this question in mind as I previously assumed the Eye of Terror as an oil spill on the ocean surface and questioned whether space farers could go over or under the Eye. Now seeing it as an equal 3D object on all sides makes it a lot easier to visualize. Also the explanation on the time of travel it takes between translation into the Warp and out into real space makes a lot of sense to me. For all my fellow Minecraft players, I believe it is similar to entering the Nether from the Overworld and then exiting at another point in the Overworld. One block traveled in the Nether equates to 4 blocks traveled in the Overworld, so in parallel, the Warp has always been the agreed upon faster method for space traveling. Also navigating in the Warp is comparable as well as the route taken in the Warp is never a straight line as Luetin states. You traverse the Nether the same as the Warp, making turns and changes as applicable until you reach your XYZ coordinate or exit gate and re-enter the Overworld/real space. A fun note is the mobs in the Nether can be mirrored to warp daemons trying to screw with you before you make it to your exit. Just a really fun parallel I thought of whole listening that's easily teachable for those newer to the sci-fi side of the lore. Another great video Luetin! The Emperor Protects!
@jameskazd9951 Жыл бұрын
never thought about it but now that you mention it, yeah the nether is a little bit like the warp. the only big thing it is missing is the crazy time stuff that can happen from warp travel. you dont have to worry about coming out of the nether at a time before your base was built.

So packed ice nether boat speedways are the equivalent to the elder gateways?
@kaiomalley68782 ай бұрын
I thought about the Nether while watching this too! It’s such a good analogy. It doesn’t take the variability of the time dilations into account, but it gets the basics of it so well. Open portal - enter hellscape - travel through (a hopefully safe, mapped out part of) the hellscape - exit into real/overworld having travelled a significantly shorter distance than you are from where you started.

I've written this before on other videos talking about the date. Simply, the wobble of the stars as viewed on earth over a long time, called precession, can be looked at by modern (m41 999) astronomers and be dated accurately. A stone age astronomer from stonehenge could, over a 72 year slice of time studying the stars, calculate the date. The "we don't know the date", at least on Terra, is just a story development from writers who didnt know about precession, and wanted to explain how their game was still called Warhammer 40K

I like to consider warp travel, as something like changing from space travel, to sea faring - in space. And you're suddenly cast onto the most tumultuous ocean imaginable with nightmarish sea monsters which want to eat you. There are awful winds which drive you off course. Your navigator in the heart of the ship is like someone on the crows nest looking for sunlight through the other side of the storm. They're also using data to work out how far to move in the sea before translating to realspace. The light of course the navigators can sea through the storm is the astronomicon. On the other side of the rift, there is almost no hope of you traversing the warp.

Funnily enough, going deeper into Star Wars lore, you find that even their hyperspace travel isn’t as simple as “input coordinates, go to warp, wait a few minutes, exit”; they actually have their own version of Mandeville(?) Points (why do you think planetary blockades just require parking a couple ships at a specific region of space, instead of encircling the entire planet?) and “stable warp routes” (part of the reason the Unknown Regions remains as such even after millennia is that stellar phenomena constantly cause hyperspace routes to rearrange & destabilize, requiring frequent updates to navigation charts for safe travel, updates that are just too costly to implement regularly). So ya, as someone who got into 40k from Star Wars (& Halo, which has slipspace navigation routes), it was surprisingly easy to follow. 😅

At 15:04 Luetin mentioned that, because of the nature of warp travel, spaceships and their crew could technically exist simultaneously at two points in space and calls it a problematic thing. This reminded me about this video I watched recently "Does the past still exist?". The video works towards a concept, which she describes as "the notion of now is observer dependent" or "The Relativity of Simultaneity. I’m by no means a physicist but as I understand it, our real-life physics would allow for the concept that something can exist at two points in space simultaneously if there would be something like the warp to make the simultaneous existence through travel possible.
