What Happened To Brother Lysander? - 40K Theories

After aiding in the retrieval of the Blade Encarmine - one of his chapter’s most sacred relics, the exiled Blood Angels neophyte known as Lysander would embark upon a quest to hunt down his former liege-captain, who had not only fallen victim to Chaotic Corruption, but intended to launch his very own Black Crusade against the Imperium. Despite managing to put a stop to his former captain’s plans, Lysander’s final fate from here remains somewhat ambiguous. So just what could have happened to this exiled Blood Angel?

*Clarification/Addendum* : In regards to my comments regarding the amount of implants that Lysander would have had surgically implanted within his body, part of the reason as to why I mentioned him having fourteen/fifteen instead of all of them is due, quite frankly, to inconsistent sources. While Blood Angels aspirants will spend a year within a blood filled sarcophagus as they undergo the gene-seed implantation process (which admittedly I should have actually specified instead of regarding to such a process as simply being included within the umbrella term of "training"), some sources say they only receive some (if not most) of their implants at this time, whereas others say they receive all of them (save for the black carapace, which is bestowed to them following the completion of their time within the scout company.) Because of this, I decided to consolidate the two with the statement of him receiving _at least_ fourteen of an Astartes' organs. ...and there may have also been a _tiny_ bit of forgetfulness may have occurred on my end on top of that, regarding the whole sarcophagus thing xD In either case, I should have been more clear in this regard and I apologise for any confusion caused.

I'm a fan of the idea of Lysander joining an Inquisitors retinue, since they're fighting Chaos forces the Imperial fleet would probably have an Inquisitor or two hanging around and very un Blood Angel looking Blood Angel in a escape pod from a Chaos warship would certainly get their attention. It's also worth noting that by the end Lysander is a legit badass even by Astartes standards, fighting and beating the far larger, fully power armored and older Cloten in a duel, fighting his demon possessed Captain and winning. Lysanders talent for leadship must also be at the top of the scale since Cloten despite having been a Sergeant (iirc) basically falls in line behind him and lets Lysander take the lead.

Great video Remleiz! Ahh I may be a fairly new 40k fan but Bloodquest was one of the first official 40k media I ever dove into. It helped me solidify the Blood Angels as my favorite chapter. The twist and turns throughout the graphic novel were great! I never would’ve expected this simple neophyte who was nothing but a side-character for half of the novel to become its new protagonist. I may sound a bit selfish here but I do hope for more Blood Angels-related theories soon, hehe,

Second, how do you get through Astartes recruitment with a name like that? Did they narrow it down to three aspirants and pick him over two named Nurgle Pukesalot III and Bloodforth Ebloodgod?

Astartes give aspirants new names upon becoming neophytes, or when they achieve great deeds, or just when they feel like it.

The funny part is that in the comic he does a pretty good job of not giving in to the temptations of tzeentch (and the rest of the gods as well). But of course, that could all be part of some grand 4-step* plan by the changer of ways. (*Each step has about a hundred different sub-steps)

What would happen if he turned up at a Deathwatch base as an incomplete Astartes and requested to become a Black shield I wonder. Do they have access to stocks of gene seed and would he simply be able to admit he is a son of Sanguinius and they finish him off? Would he be rejected or admitted and remain unfinished? Would he have mixed gene seed?

I loved the blood quest, one of my favourite GW stories and best graphic novel. Loved how it explored a Daemon world and the chaotic inhabitance. Still have my prized original copy of the collected stories in. Unlikely would love it if they actually reintroduced Lysander into the lore.

Refer to the novel Dante by guy Haley. This mentions the process that all the new organs and gene seed are added during their year long slumber which is what happened to Dante (Luis)

Sadly eBay's your best bet these days. GW did re-issue the comics into a hardback, coloured graphic novel a few months ago as a made to order product, but it's no longer available from their site.

Just a note, I find it very interesting how the Chaos Planet Eidolon is spelled the exact same way that the Emperor's Children Company Commander's name was spelled, and he was never truly confirmed dead after the collapse of the Canticle City and rebuilding afterwards. Eidolon the planet and Eidolon the Chaos Astartes may be connected in more than name, as the planet may have first had it's sickening competition started by the forces of the Emperor's Children under command of Eidolon's forces as a means to garner recruits or even allied warbands for Abaddon's Black Crusade which Eidolon often is participant to. I believe that Brother Proteus has fallen under the influence of the re-unified forces of the Emperor's Children under Eidolon's command, and that given Eidolon's history as the first Astartes personally promoted by Fulgrim, this will lead Brother Lysander and Brother Cloten into conflict with the re-unified Emperor's Children in whatever warpscape they now inhabit. What do you think?

There's one thing that bugs me concerning the idea that Vandoth is Lysander. He's mentioned as having an ancient bolter. If it is Lysander's bolter, then it wouldn't be ancient. It'd be fairly recent given it was the bolter of a scout marine. If it is a Chaos Marine's bolter that he's stolen, then it could be an ancient bolter but it'd also be chaotically tainted. Vandoth seems like a hold over from the Heresy rather than Lysander IMO.

Remember that it's not so much an ancient boltgun, but that it's an ancient _pattern_ of boltgun. It could potentially have been an older model that was still in service (as some chapters do still maintain stocks of older equipment). But yes, your point is nonetheless valid ^^

Neophytes should be kept out of the scout company. Black Library has zero military pedigree and it shows. The scouts should be specialized veterans. The Neophyte should get all organs,implants and training then sent to the 10 companies. The chapter numbers cap is so crippling. Any kind of loop hole should be used. I made sure I did this with my homebrew. An example I don't count the Apothecarion against my 1000. I use fleet operators and desthwatch to cycle veterans in and out of the battle companies.The primaris made this so much easier to do with my homebrew. Doesn't matter what Genesee they are the organs will work and as a fleet based using a red scorpion style selection is not as negative to the chapter on sustainability of fighting strength.
