Hi Allan. My wife and I hired that boat Linden in 2020 and that started us on our narrowboat life. We ordered a new boat on our return home and have been touring the canals in the north west since then. Just returned from the Anderton Boat lift. I am sure this would be an interest to you if you could ever make the trip.

Hi Les, that’s very interesting, I’m glad it’s worked out well for you and that you’re enjoying your new life. I have been to the Anderton Boat lift and down through it on a boat trip, magnificent piece of engineering. It’s unlikely that I would ever go there on my boat. All the best.

Great video. I was on a Crabtree boat back in May. For the sake of information and not to contradict, that swing bridge is easy enough solo handing. There's a chain on the towpath side. Once you unhook it you walk back to the towpath side, give it a good shove, then bring the boat through to the landing. Then you grab the chain on the towpath side and pull the bridge back, walk across and re-secure the hook. Bob's your uncle!
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 ай бұрын
Thanks very much, and for the bridge advice. I assume when the chain is disconnected, it drops down to the bottom of the canal to allow a boat to pass over, so the bridge can be pulled back afterwards, makes good sense but will only work with an easy swinging bridge. I've not heard of that before. Some swing bridges do have a bollard on the off side to tie off to and some of course are hard work to get them moving. Cheers

Hi Paul, thanks for your comment and advice. Another viewer also mentioned the chain, I’ve never heard of that arrangement before, so wasn’t looking for it but with two of us didn’t need to. Some swing bridges have a bollard on the off side to tie to, still a difficulty though. The chain is a great idea. Cheers

@MyNarrowboatVenture3 ай бұрын
Thanks Robert. Sounds like a good earner. There was no-one there to help us but fortunately it moved easily. I couldn’t show the clock, as it’s not there and hasn’t been for some years. Research suggests it’s had a chequered history, no longer works properly and is being stored on behalf of the owner. I agree it’s a shame I couldn’t show it. All the best.

Ahoy Alan, I use GoPros for everything …. It’s all about the memory cards, make sure they are the fastest you can get from a camera shop not Amazon as so many fakes on there …. I had the same problems … also format the card after every use in the GoPro
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 ай бұрын
Hi Heidi, me hearty, welcome aboard. Sorry for the delayed response, I’ve been volunteering at Watford Locks today. Thanks for your advice. I always use San Disk cards, mainly Extreme Pro and as speeds are getting faster, I have a mix of them. The subject of formatting after every use has been mentioned before, I don’t believe that should be necessary, it wasn’t years ago, and I never had problems. I do format the cards but not regularly, as I like to keep the data on the cards until it’s used, it’s part of my backup system, I usually have 3 copies whilst editing and delete later. The other problem is file numbering starts again. I have renamed file letters/numbers on some cameras to avoid them clashing. All the best, take care 🏴☠️

It never ceases to amuse to hear a Brit call 77 degrees F a "hot day."
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 ай бұрын
I have problems with my body thermostat, so when it’s hot I feel very hot and when it’s cold I feel very cold. Perhaps this explains about Brits … "In the UK, the relative humidity is higher than in countries with dry heat. This makes it harder for our bodies to cool down because sweat doesn't evaporate as well. So you feel hot and sticky like a roast barbecue pig. This is why 35C in a dry climate can feel more comfortable than 25C in a place with high relative humidity.” Cheers
@xqqqme3 ай бұрын
@@MyNarrowboatVenture In much of the U.S. we don't lack for humidity. I lived in (endured) Florida for 18 years so I understand completely. But, even so, I think our discomfort "threshold" is a good bit higher than yours! 😆

@@MyNarrowboatVenture Alan, in less than 3 weeks I'll be 71, so we're close in age. I see the same with me, I witnessed this with my father who lived to 88 and see it with a dear friend and neighbor who is now that same age: I'm afraid increased sensitivity to cold comes with the territory.

Hi Ramsey. It was, but I didn’t mention the clock, as it isn’t there and hasn’t been for years, as it’s stored away. My research found it’s no longer in good working condition, as parts have been changed and it shows different times on each clock face. Cheers
