Pretty cool / impressive to see the old horse drawn sickle bar mower still working. Thanks for the ride along. Stay safe.

Thank you for watching! I'm happy some enjoyed it. 97 degrees and higher the last few days. The hay really dried down. Thank you again!

I cut a lot of hay with a 49 A and a number 37 John Deere mower in my younger days, when you weren’t racing the rain it was a peaceful job!

Thank you for watching! It clatters so loud, and the wind blowing so hard, you can't hear the tractor running. Lol

That was cool don't see many sickle mowers any more especially ground driven ! Thanks for sharing Martin hopefully you get it made before the rain comes !👍😁

Thank you Shane! It has been long hot days. 97-100+ degrees. It can rain now. We finished tonight. Stay tuned, I've got a "guess the number of bales" coming up!

We used an oak 4x4 as a tung with steel plates on top and on the bottom to allow us to use hitch pins on our rake and manure spreader, both with steel wheels.

@scrambler69-xk3kv there was a wood 4x6 for a tongue on this. It rotted and broke. So far, this 3 inch channel is working but I'd like to go back to wood.

Nice drying weather anyway!!! The wind has been unusually high here for the last five years or so.. hasn't been too bad lately.. I'm sure as soon as I start cutting hay, it will stop.. then pick up when we're trying to bale.. I watched about three tons of windrows get swept away a few years ago.. luckily it made it up and over the trees, across the road and back into our other field😎👍 The one that I'd already raked😠

It blew like hell while mowing and yesterday while raking. Severe storms in the forcast today. Why would it rsin, I've got hay on the ground and a baler that isn't working!

This one came up on my suggestions. Before I started watching you. Pretty cool ground driven mower. The Amish use them here.

For some reason I lost a handful of our haying videos that were up. Some had over 350 views. This Big 4 JD mower was my grandpa's. It works really well.

Cut many miles of road ditches with a rig just like this. Always seemed to work better into the wind.

We really miss having ground to use our equipment on. I don't know what happened to 6+ other videos, (mowing, raking, and baling), they got removed or something. You are correct Mike!

It really blew hard. But sure helps in drying. Rain in the forcast and naturally I'm having baler issues! I'm busting hump to get it off before it rains.

Do you use the old horse drawn rake to windrow your hay?
@martinbenton7424 жыл бұрын
I don't have a horse drawn rake. Ours is a model 894, I think, side delivery. Thank you very much for watching and commenting!

I have one... they made a set of faster gears to pull behind a tractor plus a rope trip to raise the bar from the tractor seat, I would love to find those parts!
@martinbenton742 Жыл бұрын
I didn't know that. This was my grandpa's. I spent many hours riding it when I was a kid. Unfortunately, we no longer have any ground to be cut. Still have the mower and tractor though.
@GeigerFarm4 жыл бұрын
How does the bar lift?
@martinbenton7424 жыл бұрын
There is a foot operated lever on the right, below the seat, that is an aid in lifting, plus a long pull bar on the right for hand. I'll do a short video on it. We are trying to beat the severe storms coming in today. The hay is still on the ground.

I am willing to put up with a lot wind noise to get to watch a B cut hay. I could watch this for hours. The big down side to it is not really hearing the B pop.
@martinbenton7424 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Between the wind and clatter of the sickle bar, you can't hear the tractor!
