Good video on putting the new parts install. I would recommend next time take the all the deck parts completely off, pressure wash the top/bottom of deck, do a coat of rust proofer on the topside and with all the pulley holders. As you are putting all back together, make sure all the pivot points have a light coat of grease for ultra smooth blade engagement😊

When you think about it spending 200 bucks or 3 to rebuild deck and service riding mower that will last 5/10 more years is nothing compared to 3,000.00 for a new junk mower that will only last 2/3 years Keep ‘em and fix em folks

I 100% agree! Just paid $50 for a severely neglected 1999 Poulan Pro 46in rider with a Briggs 20HP V-twin. $200 in parts and supplies later, she is a runner again. In process of putting deck back together after stripping all the parts off, wire wheeled the top, repairing 4 small rust holes, followed by 2 coats of rust proofer and a semi gloss paint, and will be reassembled with new spindles and sharpened blades :-)

Nice rebuild and should last for a few years again. 👍One thing to note though, that deck was still missing a return spring. One end attaches to a hole in the movable pulley bracket and the other end attaches to a hole in the top front surface of the deck. Back in those years they had two deck styles (cable operated new style & linkage operated old style).

Very important, the thick washer properly goes on underneath the pulley. The Pulley Nut is a washer built on.

FYI I have a model built in 1999 and those two middle pulleys are not the same the pivoting pulley is the same diameter but it is wider/thicker. I believe the first guy had it for the entire 25 years and I'm the first one to do work on it which included actually patching the deck...

Where can i get pulley belt stops
@christopherjpeters Жыл бұрын
It depends of the manufacture. If the tractor is new enough you might be able to get those parts from the retailer or an online source. However if its older or a craftsman it might be a bit tougher to get parts for because they are not being made anymore. Those dont typically come in the kits like the one I had.

Can a lever engaged deck be used to replace a cable engaged deck?
@christopherjpeters3 жыл бұрын
I've never tried to but I'm sure with some modifications you could pull it off.
@rvalens2 Жыл бұрын
@@christopherjpeters Yes, you can swap a lever engaged mower deck for a cable engaged one. The two decks are virtually identical. First, you have to remove the stanchion that holds the engagement-cable on the old deck and install it on the lever-engaged deck. You'll also need to pull and move the center bolt from the pulley that engages/disengages from the cable-engaged deck into the pulley on the lever-engaged deck because you'll need the top of the bolt that holds the end of the engagement cable. Everything else is a perfect fit. The only other important differences are the type of springs used. Lever engaged decks use a circular spring to engage/disengage the brakes. While the cable-engaged decks use small stanchions that hold straight springs that engage/disengage the brakes. Also, there is a straight- spring that moves the pulley back into the "disengaged" position when you disengage the mower deck blades. How do I know? I just rebuilt/restored an LT2000, using parts of the mower deck from an old 1997 Sears Craftsman mower - later known as an LT1000. During the process, I compared the two decks and found that they are almost identical. And it's not hard to do at all - just a couple of part swaps and you're to go. By the way, I purchased the LT2000 from my local small engine repair shop for $20. The manager told me he suspected that the engine was good. But it just wasn't worth his time to fix because it needed virtually everything. For me, that didn't matter because I had almost everything it needed - taken from the '97 Craftsman. I now have a mower that looks new, runs great and cost me a grand total of $100 to fix - plus, my time and a lot of elbow grease.

Please list your parts references, like the Amazon part number or description. If you only paid $80 for the kit, then you did good. Thanks!
I'm not sure if this is the exact kit I got before but I believe it's the same brand. The price has gone up a bit as well but I think it's still very reasonable. Hope this helps you.
