Yea not sure either. Front CV axles are mostly plug and play anyways no bolts hold them into the transaxle. Have you seen WRX ralley vehicles they can change a clutch in like seven minutes. Somewhat related One time I swapped my Honda Civic engine from the stock D16y8 to an Acura integra B18b in 4.5 hours by myself except for five minutes my lazy roommate came out to help just actually align the new engine in. That includes swapping the Ecu axles and shift linkage to the Acura ones as well.

Old reply, but the algorithm has thus video taking off. I dissect through guy underneath could line up the half shafts as they dropped the engine in. I feel like the engine was just sitting in there before they took it out and after they put it back in, it's enough to get you 20 feet. Fuel line could be friction fit slip on, most electronics limited to a plug ir two...this is old tech, not a lot of wires going to the engine. Basically, it's totally rigged, the car might even be modified to allow them to do this, the engine us not properly swapped...but I think what we saw in this video did happen.

emutiny No. It's got another engine in the back, that engine they swapped is doing nothing at all! Physically impossible to do that and have it even start in that time!
@mibars10 жыл бұрын
j4cko56 It is physically possible. It is small carburated engine with transmission bolted to it. They simply had no bolts in place, probably mounts were modified so that it woudn't drop without bolts in engine mounts, half axles were not secured and simply popped out of gearbox and then guy below aligned them to the holes in gearbox when dropping in. Probably no oil in gearbox, obviously no coolant, they dfon't even need shifter linkage, simply leave it in 1st gear and connect just clutch cable. Apart from that there were just a few cables to reconnect (starter, starter signal,, ignition and ground wire), carbureator cable and we are ready to "go".
@johnwilburn10 жыл бұрын
My theory is that they the differential welded to allow using one CV axle and that it has a simple flat flange with quick pins. Using an elastomer fuel line wouldn't demand clamps on a low pressure carbureted system and one could make one big bulkhead for the ignition and starter... Put that close to the throttle and shifter cables. Totally doable.

bare minimum they had to connect the exhaust, cv axles, throttle cable and clutch cable to the new engine
Can't really tell if this is carb or fuel injected. Dealing with fuel injection you'd need to kill the fuel pump and relieve the pressure on the fuel rail before disconnecting or you could get a nasty wound. The engine here already had fuel in the carb when they popped it into the car. Probably didn't even hook up the pump from the tank. Either way, who does a complete engine swap with all accessories? Usually the replacement is a long block and you'd be lucky to have an intake manifold. All the old stuff goes onto the new long block.

@truthsmiles2 жыл бұрын
Alright, so here’s what I think: - The only required connections aside from some guide pins to rest the engine/trans on the mounts are one CV axle (passenger side), throttle cable, clutch cable, and one battery cable. My defense/explanation: - No fuel line is needed because there is sufficient fuel in the bowls of the carburetors to make it through the demo. - No ignition wire because the starter relay is on the body and they’re using a Bendix style starter that doesn’t need an integral solenoid. - The engine mounts can be used for ground, especially if there are some clever copper plates mounted on the mating surfaces. Actually, now that I think about it an insulated engine mount could also be used for positive. Further, it might even be possible to cleverly design levers engaged by the weight of the engine to couple the throttle and clutch. - Only one axle is needed to drive the car, and it’s clear it’s the car’s right side here. In fact I’d guess the other side is welded, which is why it sounds like he’s starting in second gear. There’s no fluid in the transmission and no snap-ring/circlip on the spline so it can easily slide out and in while the engine is being lifted and lowered. - Obviously no need for coolant, alternator, power steering, or any other accessories. - I’m not sure about the exhaust.. it seems there is a pipe already wrapping around the bottom of the engine from the header. It could be there is already a small muffler mounted on the back of the engine, or perhaps the guy under the car quickly slips a flexible hose on. The engine certainly isn’t quiet, but doesn’t sound like it’s running an open header either. I actually think this record could be improved quite a bit :)

Watch the rear of the car after they come to a stop. Tires spin momentarily and the back end shifts slightly when they didn't take it out of gear lol. Obviously powered by an engine in the rear
@truthsmiles2 жыл бұрын
@@marcussmart3275 I don’t see the rear tire spinning, and the shift can be explained by the front right tire spinning. My guess is the driver is intentionally stalling the engine by dumping the clutch, likely because he has no way to cut off the ignition. Easier to just leave it on full time and powered by the battery. I don’t think there’s any need to fake the stunt. It’s totally feasible and easier to just do it than design a whole hidden engine in the rear.

not all of them have it, most do, some of them they bury the hooks behind or under various components that aren't coming out with the engine (ex: powersteering pump). On some Ford and toyota motors they're plain as day, on most others you prolly wouldn't notice them if you weren't looking for them.

@patricknintemann9242 жыл бұрын
I am theorizing on how they did it. When there is some fuel in the fuel line, that's enough to start and drive some meters. They only need to attach the transmission with one screw and plug in the starter. It doesn't need cooling for running a couple of seconds. If you would try to drive it normally, the Engine would fall to the ground. Because it is just barely holding on in there.

That’s crazy they could connect the shifter cable,(have it be the perfect adjustment first try) drain all engine coolant,(with none hitting the floor) undo body mounts,(with no impact), undo the exhaust(no broken bolts of course), and easily disconnect every electrical connector. Oh and fill everything back up with fluids… I’m astonished -_-

+benanderson89 Exactly, it's just for show, not to be certified as safe for immediate commuter usage. The point was to take an engine out, replace it, drive across a line. Everything was prepped for the challenge, not for driveability.
@KStaaf10 жыл бұрын
Fake or not. If it is real the time to prep the engine for the swap must have been way more than 42 seconds and there for it wasn't changed in 42 seconds. A factory car with all factory stuff under the hood is a whole lot different. Would have been nice to see what was hiding in the trunk.

@limpet7r632 жыл бұрын
The part I can't work out is the driveshafts. The splines on the inner CV joints engage several inches into the transmission, and the right hand shaft is in two pieces and supported mid way by a bearing, as well the outer ends of both shafts being bolted securely through the wheel hubs which cannot move in or out (only swivel). If you were doing this job normally, you'd have to remove that support bearing, then split both lower balljoints both sides to allow the hubs to swing outwards to give the driveshafts space to pull out of the transmission. The front suspension is left untouched here, so how have they got the movement to get the shafts out of the box? The only thing I can think is the dude laying on the floor underneath is somehow guiding them out, and back in as the engine is lifted out and back in, but they have a circlip retainer and don't just slide in and out by hand in most cases. There's also a very limited angle on the inner joints. It's an impressive feat regardless, but the car has had a lot of prep, and I suspect some re-engineering.

I have worked on a 1987 Ford escort. You have to disconnect: Earth straps Gear and throttle cables Inner cv joints (messy if gearbox oil leaks) Lower suspension arms and anti roll bar Fuel shut off solenoid cable Exhaust downpipe from outlet manifold and mid section Etc Pain in the arse! Was this an April fools?
@hzuiel9 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why people can't fathom that this is possible if you plan ahead. Obviously the stock configuration this is impossible, but you can create quick disconnect mechanisms for things like hoses, cables, motor mounts, etc. Designs that would never be used in a long term design that was meant to be run on the road, but are fine for the purposes of starting the engine and driving it a few feet. If they customize the installation so that it is designed for quick in and out, it's perfectly possible to do something like this. Also the only things they had connected before the start of the timer, is what was required to start and run the engine for a few seconds. Anything not needed for that was disconnected prior. It's not like as if they did, or claimed to, swap out an engine in it's total factory configuration, back to running condition and ready to take out on the highway, in 42 seconds. That would be impossible. I mean seriously, it's like saying formula 1 pit stops are fake because nobody can fill up a car and change the tires that fast. On an ordinary car with an ordinary setup you'd be correct, but they've designed the wheel's to only have one big lug, the fuel filler is designed for quick connect and disconnect and there's a high pressure system that's designed to fill the tank in seconds. Again, it's planned ahead to make it a fast process.

It's not arrogance it's the fact the car wasn't standard for it to have worked even in the most basic form e.g there was no connection of the drive shafts, fuel hoses, gear box linkage.
