Y'all been blowing up the comments asking about the red kart's top speed, so we had to deliver! We grabbed my girlfriend Bridget, strapped on some GoPros, and pushed the stock valve springs and 7:1 gearing as far as they'd go, but there's definitely room for improvement. Stay tuned!

I think it’s time for the mikuni carburetor and a billet flywheel and that should take care of the flames.Your girl was scared but it looks like she enjoyed the ride.It’s always good to get the woman out of the kitchen and in the trails.I made sure that everyone in my house has multiple go karts and mini bikes.Great video.

The mikuni is definitely gonna have to happen. And I gotta see if they have billet flywheel's that still have the charging system. Or just run an alternator🤔
@fsrdcustoms574
@fsrdcustoms574 3 жыл бұрын
Higher gear ratio and as much revolutions per minute as you can turn is your goal in a single speed. Obviously the hp gain would help for the low end torque and spinning the wheels but I think you could gear it to get 60 and get a fun amount of low end torque, if you get some billet internals to lighten up everything and get some more revolutions per minute outve it that'd help top end, and a carb and the valve springs you mentioned to get that low end torque. Beautiful build keep up the work!
@TyranisCustoms
@TyranisCustoms 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That's the plan. Ultimately I built these karts for the low end off-road, but I'll definitely play around with sprocket sizes just for fun haha
@fsrdcustoms574
@fsrdcustoms574 3 жыл бұрын
Of course man, guessing you already understood all of that stuff just figured I'd give my input, on past builds I liked to run 196cc subaru Robin engines (they where discontinued) but they have overhead cams and ultimately more revolutions per minute.. my mini bike that just had a centrifugal clutch ran about 54 (geared for top end and cruising around) keep up the work love yalls content!

Ok so, I do have the beefy valve springs in a duromax 440cc that has no governor 20" tires, 60t driven 12t drive attached to a comet 40. All on the same 3203. 47. If you get 50, I'll be very impressed. Really ought to do yourself a favor and get those springs. They are not easy to put in. You will need to build a spring compressor or buy one. But it's very much worth it! Great video!!!
@TyranisCustoms
@TyranisCustoms 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Now I GOTTA break 50 haha. I've got the springs already but am waiting till I build the rest of the internals to put them in. I'm using valve float as a rev limiter till the thing can take all those extra RPMs. I think the next move is to move to my 60 tooth sprocket for my test top speed attempt, though I love the 7:1 ratio for this type of build overall.
@lizzard7473
@lizzard7473 3 жыл бұрын
@@TyranisCustoms I kept the 60 due to the price. It was cheap and available. Has a hub already welded in for 20 bucks. My goal for it is 55. I'm pretty sure I have the torque to get there. But like you I'm definitely enjoying the power that the current gearing provides. I'm able to plant a front tire in a donut on asphalt. I've watched my left front stop rolling while the rest of the kart and I did circles around it. Not sure I'll be able to do that with the gearing any higher. But I'm willing to try....

A little FYI on the valve springs install wich makes it super easy to install them is using a really long or multiple shoe strings tied together and fed into the combustion chamber through the spark plug hole with piston at TDC, feed a little in then move the bundle over a little bit repeating the process until the chamber is full, remove old springs, install new ones, then pull your strings out slowly! Job done without removing the head!

So the engine is a Predator 420cc Engine from harbor freight. It weighs about 75lbs. Bridget and I probably add up to 260lbs, and the rest of the kart is probably 300lbs, so all together were probably like 600lbs give or take. Ill have to actually weigh it at some point.

45 is impressive with that 7:1 gearing. I'm running 5.4:1 and I'm only a few mph faster than you. I also have upgraded valve springs. When I first build my kart I was running 3.3 to 1 and it was stupid fast. I chickened out before ever hitting top speed. Pothole = death speed.

Its I think its actually aggressively rich, and the momentum of the heavy stock flywheel pulls in more air/fuel than it needs on deceleration from wide open throttle and the semi burnt mixture reignites when it hits the hot exhaust and oxygen in the open air. That was the stock carb jets drilled up a size or so, we run 34mm Mikunis on the 420s now!

7:1! 10 tooth sprocket on the drive end of the torque converter plate from GPS, to a 72 tooth sprocket on the axle. This is specifically to compensate for our 22in tires in the rear. @@TyranisCustoms it gets loose for sure! I'm going to be welding on a disc brake conversion, I'm looking for options next week (I'm tied up on a gopowersports.com race day mini bike at the moment). The stock band brake is cute but not up to even a slightly modified 212 Hemi. This thing can easily handle a bigger motor but it definitely needs more powerful brakes.

Just a suggestion: making your videos more dense would greatly improve the channel, as most people are very busy, and much more willing to watch a 8 or 10 minute video. That is just my $.02.

I do like shooting the quick ones. Its all a matter of what we are trying to accomplish with the video. Strictly for views, you're right, 8-10 is a sweet spot!

@@TyranisCustoms Feel free to shut this idea down, but if you ar einterested, you could send me one of your videos as it appeared on youtube, and I can edit it down, and you can see what you think of it. I am just throwing this out there, I like your channel, and hope it succeeds, and will help if possible.

Hey John! Feedback is always appreciated my man, so thank you and you’re absolutely right - but there’s actually a very systematic method to the madness when it comes to our longer videos. They’re all super specifically laid out to show the whole process as it happened so that our viewers can be entertained as well as actually see step by step how it was done for their own reference and builds. That said, they could still be cut down more, and tbh we’re pretty new to KZbin as a platform and we’re still trying to feel out what the best formula is for maximum entertainment, education, and accuracy. So your help with that is appreciated, and thanks for the offer to cut a video up, might have to take you up on that and start grooming you for our next video editor job opening😎🎬

It's a gear ratio difference. A 212 and a 420 both rev out to about the same RPM. Your top speed comes down to gearing, and we're geared super low for all the offroad stuff we do, and thus give up top end speed!

I'm actually limited by the gearing and max rpm(valve springs). I tested it alone after and did no better. Its set up for all torque, not so much top speed.
