I homestead on a very small scale. By myself. I have some health issues that prevent me from doing stuff some days. And other days i can do absolutely nothing. So i get you. Homesteading is a lifestyle. I feel like there's no completion just the next fire to put out. Let negative comments pay what theyre worth. NOTHING!

I very much respect and admire you, Nyssa. A bush block would be so challenging for homesteading - so much work! And ... managing chronic health issues with six kids as well - I can't even begin to fathom how you manage. I'd like to say, I can listen to your "squirrels" easily. You mentioned you have trouble finding words, but you are so articulate; your speech flows very freely, and you're obviously highly intelligent and creative. With some other KZbinrs, a half-hour voice-over puts me to sleep. You keep me hanging on your every word! Please don't let nay-sayers affect the content you create - they're everywhere right now, and they're obviously very disturbed and sad individuals who need to find another outlet to manage their issues.

I'm thick skinned which is lucky hehe, Darryl avoids the comments because he struggles, but mostly I can just shrug things off, but I do sit there and think, why, why would you make that kinda comment a lot hehe. I think the Aussie bush definitely impacts a lot of things in the 'homesteading' sense, there's more and different challenges added on!

As a suffer of trig neuralgia and a wife of a husband who had a serious mental health breakdown I 💯 understand how life is! And you have 6 kids to look after and homeschool. You and everything you have achieved is amazing! I love that you keep things real and show that life isn't always sunshine and roses! Also talking about chronic illness and mental health is creating a voice for health issues that often people cannot see so therefore don't understand. ❤❤

I’ve been in my house for 24 years. It needed massive repairs when I bought it. But the location and the land made it worth it to us. I’m still making adjustments and changes and upgrades to it. 24 years later. It takes money and time. It also takes knowledge. Sometimes baby steps are the only steps you’re able to make. Try not to let the ignorant people bother you. Keep moving forward. My dad used to say that the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. It may take years, but it will get done. When my father in law lost his license to drive, we took his truck so he’d stop trying to drive. That was 9 years ago. He passed away 5 years ago and because he never got the title we have not been able to get rid of it. No one will buy it without the title. No one will scrap it without the title. We’ve tried to get a replacement title and an abandoned title. One thing or another has prevented that. So we have an old, ugly, beat up, non running truck in the driveway. It’s hideous. I hate looking at it. But what did I do? People don’t know your circumstances. It’s easy to say what someone else should do, how they should do it, etc. everyone is an expert on other people’s lives, but their own are what they need to concentrate on. Ignore the ignorance the best you can. I’m also bipolar. Life is sometimes a struggle. And anyone that doesn’t deal with mental health has no clue how hard life can be to navigate some days. The internet has created a vile society that for some reason feel they have the right to say whatever ridiculous crap pops into their empty heads. Everyone starts somewhere and we never know what’s going on inside other people’s homes. People usually only put the good on the internet. We need more people to be real. I love that you’re so normal and relatable. I appreciate that you are honest and not pretentious. So keep on moving forward. Don’t let life get you down. You have created a beautiful life. It may need to improve, but most of us live lives that need to be improved too. Are we going to be able to get things shipped to the USA? I really want a family tree for my mom for Christmas.

Nyissa when I heard you going into details about your health issues I immediately thought why. Answer is trolls…I.e negative people. Everyone has unique circumstances. You are amazing truly. You feed your children a very natural balanced, homemade diet. You go over and beyond. Your stamina and energy is to be applauded. Please remember they do not experience your circumstances you do. I just wish I could do half as much. Of course if we could we would, no ones place is perfect, unless there’s a team of gardeners, cleaners, cooks and others. You are a true Australian, doing the best you can under adverse conditions. Ignore them, don’t let them in your head, block them, they have no empathy. We love you for who you are. I love seeing slices of your life. But remember it’s your life not theirs. I bet they don’t achieve even a quarter of what you do. Keep on doing you girl, 🇦🇺🎸⚡️🤘🏾🤘🏼💋💙💙

There's so much I want to say to you - first and foremost the people who criticize are (a) jealous (b) miserable and (c) are living in their parent's basement and have never struggled or built something from nothing. You should be proud, Nyssa. You and your family are inspiring. What I've learned in my 52 years is you'll never be "done" with anything - and who'd want to??? Learning, creating, and changing is the spice of life. I'd love to be able to do what you do. I wasn't joking when I said you need to offer the "outback experience" aka make people pay to do your work and eat your delicious food! LOL. God bless you and yours. Don't change who you are, we love you for who you are - authentic and genuine. ❤

We live in a world now of instant gratification. If you haven’t got it, don’t wait just go buy it. Homesteading isn’t like that-at all! Homesteading is a slower life, using what you have, addressing the needs as they needed. This is how you address your life. Anyone who doesn’t understand this shouldn’t watch your channel, much less comment upon it. Ill health certainly impacts your ability for massive progress but be proud of what you have achieved as an individual and as a couple and as a family! I’ve gained so much inspiration from you. I can’t homestead as much as I’d like but I’m doing ‘enough’ . Enough to complete my life. Enough to slow my life so I enjoy the small wins and nature’s joys. I have MS and some other bits and bobs so I struggle daily. Nyssa you’re amazing. Don’t let anything caste that shade over you!!

No matter what, you do great! You should see the many projects, craft jobs, cleaning, clearing the weeds and baby trees from the garden and fences, organizing everything inside the house, someday I want to get in the basement area and throw away junk, organize the stuff that we want to keep, clean flower beds, clear land, just to name a few that I have swirling around in my mind but seem to never get to. It is a comfort to me, though, just to know that I have something to do. Now that's how silly I am. Certain things are planned for certain seasons, also. I'm usually not bored, for sure. But being retired, I don't stress about anything. If I never get something done, I don't worry. And I can't imagine dealing with your health issues while trying to keep up with everything. One of my daughters has several chronic pain issues, and my heart goes out to her. She keeps going usually because she went for years, not doing much, thinking she would hurt worse. Then she decided no matter what she did or didn't do, she would be in pain, and she got up out of her bed and forced herself to get active again, and she is happier. She does have days that she can't do anything but go to bed. She has very bad migraine headaches, fibromialgia, neck, and back pain from falling downstairs at work years ago. So I do understand a little bit of what you go through. I will keep you in my prayers. I love you, and like others have said in your comments, I hang on your every word. Never let potty mouth comments upset you. Take care and keep your head up. Janice from Arkansas USA

Hey Nyssa, I’m halfway through watching this video, but I needed to pause and comment. A massive THANK YOU for sharing and being so raw and honest about your life and your struggles. We need more people like you showing what real life actually looks like. You do so much in your life. You are living off-grid, which is a full-time job in itself, whilst being a mother, school teacher, carer, homemaker, gardener, farmer, vet, chef, breadwinner and the ‘family rock’. You make KZbin videos, deal with nasty comments, and still commit to making regular content for those that love you and love watching what you make and do. I also live by the mantra of ‘progress, not perfection’. You are kicking goals, even if you think you may not be, sometimes. All my love from a fellow chronic illness sufferer xxxx

For those of us who live on a tight budget and we have what we need, but budgeting is a necessity for survival. As a mom we frequently put our needs, including our health, last. Wow. It sucks you felt the need to explain yourself. Living off grid takes a special person and family. I couldn’t imagine not doing things on my time. When I feel motivated to take on a project I take it on. It’s obvious y’all work extremely hard. The fact that you’re keeping yourself, kids, animals and a garden alive off grid is amazing. I can’t even fathom having that many projects going on at once. Making dinner everyday for my family of 3 feels overwhelming. I too have bouts of high blood pressure so I hope you get yours under control. I can’t believe you’re able to have so many things health wise going on and you keep chugging along.

I so hear you, we have an ongoing kitchen remodel that has been in the works for nearly 20 years or so now, and all that has happened is that I accumulated the materials (countertops, lumber, and cabinet doors that came out of my dear departed husband's parents' home, made by his oldest brother, who was a talented woodworker and cabinet maker - and lots of other materials.) It all leans about in the room that I want to move my tiny kitchen into. So far the only other thing that happened is we moved the fridge, table, and microwave into the kitchen-to-be, which used to be the old original living room. Then Hubs got cancer and passed away.... lost a lot of momentum there. Then our daughter got MS and is living in the former NEW living room, (can't climb upstairs to her old bedroom!) which it took us years to create from our old bedroom, after building on a new back bedroom for just me, now, sadly. The former new living room is now basically a bedroom again, with the new porch and new front door off of it. I have no living room! And there are always things that need done before OTHER things can get done, it's endless. Plus, now we don't know what to call the two rooms - it was "old kitchen" and "new kitchen" - now it's back to just "kitchen" - where the sink and stove are, still - and "the fridge room", haha! As they say, life is what happens while you're making other plans! (((hugs))) ♥

Chronic back pain, here. It was a process for me to give up some things and do others differently. It was like a grieving process for me. So many of us have some kind of medical issue and totally understand. Learning to give yourself grace is also part of the process. Otherwise, you do no service to your family or yourself. I wish you peace, love and laughter. 🙏🙏🙏

Hey Nyssa! I know it’s hard to deal with your illness and be a Mom and a wife along with everything you do day to day things. I can really see so much success on your property. Both of you are amazing parents and now days few parents could do all that you both do have done and sacrificed to reach as far as you both have. Give yourself a pat every now and then. Take your time and do things as you can, your health is way more important. I love your fan club 🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🖐️hello guys! TFS!!!❤

@OurSmallFootprint yes I think it becomes part of who you are that you don't realise how much it impacts you as you just have to get on with it. I always think of my pain like a person who is trying to dominate me and the battle is filling my mind with other things like creative outlets, relaxation and self care so it doesn't take over if that makes sense ?

You're such a strong woman and I admire everything you do for yourself and your family. I know about chronic pain. Went to the doctor's yesterday and yes the pain and physical limitations are worsening. I hate it! I've been independent my whole life and I can see it drifting away. As for your property....it looks lived on. The people that leave negative comments probably don't own anything so they're envious. I live in a very nice neighborhood. Lawns well kept, houses are all in great shape, beautiful trees, etc. Inside my house at the moment i won't even comment on. For years I've been trying to save for new flooring and paint but in the past year I had to get new plumbing, new toilets, freezer, washer, hot water tank and dealt with a terminally ill dog. You do what you can when you can!!!! Like you, I've always been a homebody but I could go when I wanted. I've lost friends since I can't do what I want anymore. Hang in there. Prayers to your family.

I completely understand what you’re going through! When my symptoms of fibromyalgia & MS started I had 4 kids 2 with severe ADHD and 2 with ADD. My house was crazy 🤪. And I worked full time. Working on site and Running my brothers interior/ exterior paint company. Morning’s were awful 😢. The pain and aggravation of getting every one out the door ( mind you all the clothes and book bags were ready the night before and lunches packed) but it never went like it was supposed to. Nights were full of homework, cooking and baths. I was so stressed and it did take a toll on my health. Now everyone is grown and I miss those days lol 😆 life always has a way of throwing a wrench into everything doesn’t it!

I manage a few chronic illnesses and a pain issue as well. Some days getting out of bed deserves a medal and when you have kids you have no choice but to march on. Don't listen to anyone negative, they could do with a hefty dose of empathy for others rather than sitting in judgement. There used to be something floating around the internet about spoons and fibromyalgia (literally called the spoon theory) but related to other chronic issues as well. It always helped me remember that when my energy and ability to get things done was more limited. I hear you on the comparing. I got rid of all social media a couple of years ago and am very careful with what I watch on KZbin. It's very easy to believe someone's highly curated stuff is real life. And that's what keeps me coming back to your channel. It's real. Keep being you. That's what we love 😁

The realty of life is that children require time, attention and work. X six! You’re doing a terrific job with them. And yes, kids do have issues and growing pains and different ideas from their parents. Keeping up with them is always a dance. That happens even if you have a ton of money. And really aren’t they more important than building fences and walls?
