Dr. Diana Fleischman completed a PhD in Evolutionary Psychology at the University of Texas, Austin, US, under the supervision of David Buss. She is currently a senior lecturer of Psychology at the University of Portsmouth, as well as a member of the Comparative and Evolutionary Psychology group there.
In this episode, we talk about the different types of disgust in human psychology (pathogen, sexual, and moral); sex differences in pathogen and sexual disgust; the compensatory behavioral prophylaxis hypothesis, and the role of progesterone in sexual disgust in women; and parent-offspring convergence and divergence in mate preference.

Great interview! I have seen and heard Dr. Fleischman in other venues. She and Dr. Miller of the Uni. Of New Mexico are great together as colleges and partners. It gives new meaning to the terms in vitro and in vivo. I will now make my observations of Homo Sapien with cues for disgust. Taking myself as my first experience experiment, I'm not sure how skewed the results would be as I have taken on the template of OCPD. I have high sense of black and white morality, am a perfectionist, and cleanliness is a high priority. I defer gratification and probably border on being Aspy. So disgust in all areas registers and can be classified as high. Dr. Miller is self identified as Aspy. I guess from my perspective, the connections are many. Oh, one more for the road. The connection between OCPD and Anorexia is high. My sister, who was brilliant, died of Anorexia. Thank for your informative venue as I continue to learn and hopefully be enlightened.

The average family size in Guatemala when we first came here in 1999 was 12...it reduced to 8 by 2010 and now is hovering at 6 it WILL further reduce bec. The birth control pill is now over the counter here and widely used by many of the upwardly mobile even agrarian working class..it was prohibited for many years though they always had midwives who,also performed abortions. @@TheDissenterRL you, no offence intended, perhaps I could keep it to myself. I'm English and it's understandable which is good but it's a struggle to follow. I don't speak any other languages so really it's a small negative upon a positive.

@@majorkade And the disgust some people feel just for the Southern accent...among Woke people esp. There is so much media inspired prejudice against Southerners and it is totally socially acceptable generally in the USA: erroneous assumptions of low IQ, erroneous assumptions of high racism and racial intolerance and misogyny being the most prevalent. My Georgian husband gets this all the time. Having had a Georgian grandmother, I find his accent and his demeanor very soothing and they make me feel safe and loved.,,,cultural exposure. The moment he opened his mouth, I was powerfully drawn to him.
