The entertaining thing about the Liz Truss government is just how bad they were at being Conservative politicians. The party has spent decades and decades wrecking Britain, but they have normally been very skillful about making bungs to their voters look like sensible fiscal policy and at least keeping up a degree of pretence at economic moderation at least to satisfy the bond market. Truss didn't seem to even recognise the need to keep their voters or markets sweet and announced numerous policies that were obviously (even to most of her MPs) going to go down like a lead balloon, even with their normally loyal voters, let alone waverers. And even after weeks of trouble, they continued to plough into uncessary battles with just about everyone. This lead to an obvious open goal which Labour took with good political skill - choosing just the right issue (fracking) to cause the rows in the Tory party to come to a head and for Truss to be dispatched. Fun to watch, but I'm sure going to be paying for it through my mortgage and energy bills...

The Conservatives' only chance is Rishi becoming PM with Hunt staying as Chancellor. Rishi is the only person with the personal brand strength to come anywhere close to improving the Tories' brand after so much damage has been done - and it'll need to be an almost flawless tenure. The reality is, Government isn't meant to have so many years of one party leadership. Things are meant to go in a circle of Tories' austerity, public spending cuts, and loosening regulations, followed by; Labour increasing public spending and tightening private sector regulation. And around we go in a nice little middle ground, in some form of balance. Too much time in government is bad for everyone and breeds complacency and arrogance, as we are seeing.

I don't think there is anyway to improve the Tories Brand. It's kind of like a catch-22. To fix the economy, massive spending cuts required including cuts in spending for social services. I thought Braverman was sacked due to a security breach? She was sending work related issues through her private email
@scotandiamapping45492 жыл бұрын
Yeah I find it strange that wasn't mentioned
@Psyk602 жыл бұрын
She resigned, she wasn't sacked. That's the reason she gave for her resignation, that she was owning up to making a mistake by sending confidential documents via personal email. But really it was a dig at Truss. Implying that Truss should also resign for the mistakes she made.
@nataschavisser5732 жыл бұрын
Nah, she resigned due to the email thing. But it was probably a pretext since it was such a minor snafu.
@Thermalions2 жыл бұрын
I suspect that was her thinly veiled reason for resigning. You know,being given the option of resigning to save face instead of being sacked. The usual go to of 'Personal reasons' just doesn't work the same when you've only been in the job for a single digit number of weeks.
@michelemontemurro31732 жыл бұрын
She resigned over a minor issue - she wrote in a statement she didn't believe the government would carry on the Party's Manifesto promises. It looked like a disagreement on immigration, essentially (Braverman in a hardliner, while Truss/Hunt were more willing to allow high-skilled immigration in order to spur growth)
@Goatcha_M2 жыл бұрын
Never should you fail to mention that Truss herself fif not vote in this Vote or Lose the Whipp issue. The whole thing is mad, the vote wasn't even to ban fracking, but to debate banning it so tha a later bill could be presented.

Given the current situation in the UK, I could easily see her record being surpassed. A PM who got a shorter run due to A) forcible replacement in an anti-government coup B) assassination (whether by an angry citizen or a foreign agent bent on destabilizing the country further) or C) committing suicide in office at the hopelessness of it all would certainly count, right?

Apparently they've set the bar for eligibility a lot higher this time - 100 backers needed instead of 20. That should cut down the filtering process. Yesterday I was pleased, but above all relieved, that the witless Munchkin that had masqueraded as PM was going. I dared to hope for an improvement and a return to sanity. This morning I awoke to news that the most likely replacement is the most corrupt, venal, mendacious and dishonest politician in British history. In what dystopian, dysfunctional parallel universe could the Tories re-crown him for the very characteristics for which he was ejected in disgrace and dishonor 100 days ago.

I guess to Truss the pm pension is worth it more than her reputation in the current political sphere and in history. Fucking horrific. You'd think that a politician would wanna become pm to leave a good mark and a good influence on the country, but according to Truss that doesn't matter. After the ticking timebomb David Cameron set up Theresa May with, and then the shite terms Bojo and Truss had, I feel real bad for May. May seemed the most genuine out of them all, which may not be a high bar, but yeah she has my sympathy after what we've seen
