Marcus drives a very tastefully modified 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI on and off-road. With an upgraded turbo and a host of supporting mods, this Hawkeye STI puts down power to all 4 wheels like nothing else. If we were to drive an STI on a daily basis, this would be it! ENJOY :D

well the part of him saying stock engine being reliable at 350+ hp made me laugh a bit) maybe it is built engine, and he doesnt even know?)) on my side. i would still put coils on it, some pretty wheels (volks or smth), take that ugly mudflaps and rear diffuser away, also those gauges are ugly too :( but thats just preference. never liked hawkeye front anyway, blobeye ftw

Agreed about the 350+ HP! I actually own a 2013 STi and listening to this kid made me laugh. GT30r on a stock EJ25.. the thing is gonna blow ring lands on those cast pistons FAST. Also he put a HKS 100% VTA BOV on it.. what an idiot. That's like the last thing you wanna do to these cars. Just running rich AF between shifts lol. If you want some ricer valve noise at least go get a hybrid recirc like a GFB.

BOV's causing harm is really only due to running *extremely rich* and that will only happen on the stock tune. Once you tune the AFR to 12 it will only drop to like 10.5 when the BOV is activated. And 10.5 is around where the stock tune AFR is set at(probably even less). So what is the harm in only going rich for a second when the stock tune runs rich *all* the time?
@nickslosubi690
@nickslosubi690 7 жыл бұрын
+SI0AX No bov (blocked off) equals lean (more air kept in the system). gives you flutter (stfu about hurting the turbo) gives you smiles. with bov you run rich on shift (less air in the system) . better off lean than rich but there is no real problem either way with a proper tune...
@SI0AX
@SI0AX 7 жыл бұрын
Nick Blenderman The BOV rich condition only happens on MAF based cars like the Subaru, EVO and Mazdas. Honda's, Hyundai Genesis, STR4's, Ford Fiesta, they are MAP based ECU injection systems, so they won't be affected by BOV's and many of them come with a BOV from the factory, except the Genesis, but using a BOV in these cars, will yield absolutely no difference to the AFR at all. A car that is MAF based measures the air comming in at the intake and injects the required amount of fuel to maintain a proper set AFR. You screw over that after after venting the already measure air into the atmosphere. Removing the BOV and blocking it off isn't going to do anything to the AFR. *TL:DR*: No, blocking off/removing/deleting a BOV does not affect the AFR. It does however, cause compressor surge which is said to damage the turbo shaft or cause lag during shifts.

no reason to need a "big" turbo to put down 353(can do that on a stock turbo, have no lag , and tons of low end power which youll lose going bigger)that can be easily dont with a small turbo and lots of boost. ive never understood why people buy bigger turbos and run them at a low psi rather than buying the right size for the numbers you want and turn up the boost. why would you want the lag if you dont get the numbers?
@RyanKhorramiVT
@RyanKhorramiVT 8 жыл бұрын
Because maxing out the stock turbo is not as reliable as throwing a big turbo on and running it at low boost, less stress on everything.
@Motherofmusic
@Motherofmusic 8 жыл бұрын
if thats what you want to think ok but maxxing out the stock turbo on an sti will not do it any damage at all. also at the cost of boost lag and loosing TONS AND TONS of useable power down low but if all you want is a dyno queen then have fun...

great reply, there is NOTHING unreliable about maxing out a turbo, have fun with your dyno queens...
@PuroInternationalPhenomenon
@PuroInternationalPhenomenon 8 жыл бұрын
Well yes there is something unreliable about maxing out a stock turbo. There is a limit to the stress you can put on one. If you are running lets say 23 psi on a stock vf43 which is whats in this car stock, it will not last as long as running it at 17-21 psi which is safe for a not built engine. Sure you could go to 25 psi, but yeah like Mr Vw said, it will become unreliable and less efficient. Anyway food for thought Spears.

Did he really just say AWD is better than 4WD and 4x4 for off-road? Really? The whole point of 4x4 and the likes is being able to switch to RWD at any moment you need to do so while offroading. Obviously, this isn't rock climbing we are talking about but it still applies mostly.
@InvalidUsername725

AWD in a car like this has the great benefit of being able to carry great speed over any terrain without having to worry about switching between driven wheels. On top of that, Subaru's AWD system with their stock diffs is on par with many 4WD systems when it comes to raw off-roading. If we are talking trucks then you are right, but for the car and the driving conditions it will face, AWD is far superior to 4x4/4WD.

If he's on the stock internals, I'm sure it's quite conservatively tuned. 350whp is about all that's really safe on 2007 stock internals. Also, it depends on what dyno it was on. Some read really low.

T1GR3S13 asked because I was genuinely curious. My car makes 344whp 373wtq with a smaller 18g xtr, built bottom end etc running only 18 psi on pump gas. A 30r should def be making more than 350 whp especially at 22 psi and with meth injection. Still a dope car tho! That car is worth around $15,000. You can finance it easily, some people could even buy it cash. A kid could probably afford to buy cash a $2,000 car with a $24,000 yearly wage(based on the 20% rule). The 20% rule basically means that to buy cash a $15,000 car you would need to earn $180,000 a year, which is pretty stupid as with a much smaller wage you could buy cash a much more expensive vehicle if you save up.

you said it pulls better with bigger turbo at higher rpm's, is bigger turbo makes more turbo lag at low rpm's?
@pmodd
@pmodd 8 жыл бұрын
Yes.
@SI0AX
@SI0AX 8 жыл бұрын
There is: -Boost threshold (the minimum RPM required to start the turbo) -Turbo Lag (the amount of time the turbo takes to hit full boost after starting) Example: Say a small turbo can begin spooling(start) at like 1500 RPM and then from there it will reach full boost at say 2200 RPM. 1500 RPM is the "boost threshold" and 1500 - 2200 RPM is the "turbo lag". Now with a *much* bigger turbo you will have to be at 4500 RPM for the turbo to start and then full spool is reached at 5500 RPM. Boost threshold: 4500RPM Turbo lag: 4500 - 5500 RPM. A small turbo will be faster to respond but will lose power and efficiency at high RPM(so you lose power) A big turbo is pretty much the opposite.

Will never give up my '06! Had it pro tuned by the guys at TK Performance in Jacksonville FL after installing a 3in full HKS, K&N intake. Bought it with 12 miles, pro tuned at 15k, now has 97k of the finest miles I've ever spent in a car. At 60k swapped over to 3in full N1, Cobb SF, and added a Cobb short throw. Last week I installed a Whiteline 22mm rear sway bar, 25mm front, and new Whiteline end-links all around. Not sure if I wanna go any farther, but I feel like I have that itch for more. Just not sure which way to go with it, is still my dd when I don't take my bike.

+Roads Untraveled Its funny that you think its about how to film a car video instead of providing good content which is what most people look for. Throughout the entire video, all see is the driver say "i can hit the red line and look at how i can step on the gas". The entire 10 mins was like that. People want to see content, the specs, the performance, the stuff; not some kid that bought a car and knows jack shit about it besides pressing the gas pedal.
@441meatloaf
@441meatloaf 8 жыл бұрын
And im not the first person to comment how awful this video is. This video "opposite" of a review. It is a prime example of pure garbage. I've seen better videos by people that vlogs about their new car and knows more about the engine and specs than this kid.

@_blazin_asian
@_blazin_asian 6 жыл бұрын
The fmic makes for cooler air more than a top mount would, but as for the scoop underhood temps are noticeably lower with the scoop to help move the air compared to a scoopless or heat extraction hood.
@PritchyTurbo2000
@PritchyTurbo2000 5 жыл бұрын
If you put a front mount on, technically you should put a reverse scoop on top to let the hot air OUT. I didn't put a Front Mount on mine, because it's pretty crowded in my engine bay anyway (air con pump too) instead uprated the top mount to a 100mm thick one, about twice as thick as standard and put the big scoop on top to let more air in obviously. . (uk turbo/wrx '98) Also, Jon Lukens, the above is not true regarding 'extraction hood', with the correct air flow from the front.
@samkercher8381
@samkercher8381 5 жыл бұрын
There are reasons why he would want to keep the bonnet with the scoop on. He might want to change back to top mount because he has too much turbo lag, or he might want to put an oil cooler on top

I really think you need to show dyno sheets when you headline a car at a certain HP in your videos. I'm not doubting it's in the neighborhood, but c'mon man. Oh wait, 350 WHP, that's more like it, but still, dynos would be nice when you headline a video like this, just saying.
