Thanks for all of the info on the 444 Marlin! I bought mine 30 years ago and haven't shot it much. I dug it out this year and put a scope on it. It's ready for hunting elk and deer. I really like carrying it in the woods. It shoots great groups at 50 yards with the FTX ammo. I'll try it at 200 yards when we go to the range to make sure the bullet isn't tumbling (I have the 1:38 twist rate, and I believe yours is too). Great videos and anything on the 444 Marlin will be greatly appreciated!

I own a Marlin 444 and I love the rifle. It is a HAMMER on deer! I used some older Hornady 265 SP and IMR-4198, but H-335 works as well.

I've been using H4198 for my loads. Works best in my particular firearm They're all somewhat different in their preferences Crying shame that Hornady discontinued selling the #4300 as a component

Couple things I noticed....1) the rifle likes the FTX ammo. That's a great 3 shot group at 200 yds with a rifle that is kicking the poop out of your shoulder lol 2) you wasted a lot of ammo by not zeroing the POI over about 2-3 clicks to the right. I think you've found the load it likes. And yes, the superformance is a tad faster but not enough to matter. Good shooting pard. Owned one back in the early 80's. Classic rifle. At 78 years old, the thumping ain't worth it. I hunt with a Remington Model 722 in 300 savage, a custom Swedish Mauser Model 96 in 6.5x55 and a Marlin 336 in 30-30. Thanks for sharing and good luck this season. We are 7 days away from our opening.

Thank you for mentioning that! You know that actually I forgot the bag of shot that day to put in the tray of the lead sled and I didn't even notice that until I started editing the video. Also I am considering doing another video about moving the POI over 2-3 clicks to the right at 200 yards and then go back to 100 yards. I was thinking it is the glass or my eyesight that could be off....I love the trigger pull at 2.5 lbs and so I know it's not that. Interesting feedback for sure ....I will work on that video...thanks for the suggestion and supporting the channel!

@@riversgunkingdom5360 2.5lb trigger pull on a Marlin? How did you do that? Mine is the standard 6lb pull lol. I have even lightly filed the sear but scared to go too far. I've thought about a replacement but man they want $135 for one and it only goes to 3.5lb. My Marlin is the stainless 336XLR with the 24" barrel. Really beautiful laminated stock. It's a nice set up with a Vortex 2-7x32. I get 1/2" groups at 50 yds (Federal 150gr JSP) but at 100 it groups just over an inch on a 3 shot average. Still plenty accurate. I had a 4.5-14x42 on it last year and was shooting sub moa, but just didn't like the look of such a large scope on a lever gun. I'm sure you know what I mean.
@riversgunkingdom53602 ай бұрын
@@easttexan2933 A stainless Marlin is beautiful....love the looks of those guns! Sounds like a nice scope on your gun! Have you tried the Hornady FTX to see if you can get your groups tighter? On my Marilin with the trigger pull my dad had it done by a gunsmith years ago so not sure what the method was. A woods gun should have a heavier trigger pull though for sure but it does help when shooting out to a distance of 200 yards or more. The lever guns don't look that great with any scope but when eyesight starts going bad we need the help. Thanks for letting me know the info. Also not a bad price of 135.00 for the 3.5 trigger....some of that may be labor?

@@riversgunkingdom5360 It would be a Timney trigger. I would install it myself. I have used the Leverevolution FTX bullets. Advertised velocity is 2400fps and they are 160gr. The advertised velocity for the 150gr is 2400fps, and they are cheaper lol. Group wise they are the same. It's a shooter prosblem not the gun/scope lol.

For some reason, I haven't understood, Hornady discontinued their 265 flat point so I had to switch to another manufacturer, I refuse to shorten my cases so I had to make the switch, sure are a lot of us that don't like those flex tips Hornady made a big mistake doing that as that was the original bullet for the 444 the flat point and others picked up that extra sales and Hornady lost a lot. Can't use a product you can't buy, bought them by the thousands go figure.
@riversgunkingdom53602 ай бұрын
Interesting feedback! Thank you. From the research I have done on manufactures discontinuing their ammo I have found that mostly the reason is loss in demand from the public. Let us know more in detail why you don't like the flex tip...I would be interested in knowing? Thank you for your time and supporting the channel.
@charleshenson41839 сағат бұрын
It hasn't been discontinued
@wadepederson84578 сағат бұрын
@charleshenson4183 Yes, they did discontinue making them a long time ago so they can sell their flex tip stuff. They say as much in their reloading book. if they still make them show me where they sell them.

@@riversgunkingdom5360 I will, I am leaning towards the 100 yds mark, but our outdoor range is 50-100 and 200 yd range, I think the 100 will be perfect and then I can adjust accordingly (Kentucky windage) LOL

Thanks for this feedback because every rifle is going to like different ammo for sure. I plan on doing another video back to 100 yards with the flat point to check and make sure of the accuracy. If you noticed I shot the flat point first when I was fresh then shot the FTX ....I thought that the flat point would have a better grouping. But to be fair I want to shoot the FP at 100 yards? Let me know what you think? Thanks for watching!
