I used high strength loctite on my own bike. I don't plan on removing them again with the replacement screws fitted. On the lock wires, there's really not enough head available to drill and lock the screws, and I'd be concerned about the long lengths of thin wire fracturing between the screws as the rpm increased. Just torque up to 13-15Nm with the high strength loctite and ride happy. The 449 shape was definitely an acquired taste when they were new, but it lead the way to a new slimmer styling look from the side and still looks fairly modern as a result 🙂

not there yet- everything died on sunday after a really good blast "fail" appeared and there was no sign of life apart from a faded headlight . first thought is battery which i charged and no change - second thought is stator. may just order a new battery first and take it from there-

paulus maximus Ah, ok. I didn't get a fail message with my bike. There was noise, horrible engine ending sounds deep down when the screw came out. I'm a mechanic, so I was able to remove the cover and damaged screw on the trail and get home on the remaining battery charge. 👍

Love the videos, I learned so much from you, I subscribed a year ago. I am doing this stator job today before the disaster. Also my TE449 will not shift at all past 3rd with Castrol oil, but shifts beautifully with Mobil 1 Racing 0-304T and euro car 0-40 oil, Any Ideas? Also the other BIG problem that the connecting rod can not be separated from the crank, and the journal's are real small, if overheating occurs, because of low oil or dirty oil the crank seizes up and the bike is toast. The crankshafts were only recently available, can you make a video about that. Running clean oil to the top the window. I love my bike, and now that I know what's up it will last a lot longer. Thank You
@Danger_mouse3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for the message, appreciate your suppor. On the oil and gears, I have no idea, the oil grade can't affect the mechanical parts of the shift mechanism, and if it is affecting the clutch, regardless it will shift without the clutch. Definitely something weird going on with your own bike I'd say. I'll look into the suggestion for the video. Have a great Christmas 👍

@@scottlarue5432 In my opinion, the crank mod isn't vital for a long life. Changing the oil frequenly and not bouncing the engine off the rev limiter all day is good way to start. 2013/14 bikes got the dlc coating on the crank pin, this also helped. That said, simply by using 5W40 Castrol full synthetic oil, changing it at 5 hrs (filters at 20) and keeping the level full, my 2011 has now gone past 400hrs (9000km+)without a failure. Almost all of these km were off road, only using bitumen to get to more dirt. It's but thrashed, crashed, even under water once.... Still ticking 👌

Hi guys, I got a well used 2011 exc this summer. You wouldn't believe some of the wire hacking it had to get lights on it. I feel like I rescued a husky puppy from the pound. But I want to replace these flywheel bolts. As long as I have no damage I dont need to pull my flywheel right? Just replace the Allen bolts one at a time. I just won't be able to lock tight the starter clutch. And just in case what was the Kawasaki you referenced that uses the same puller? It would be easier to find and probably cheaper too. Its always something. But its a fun bike. My last big bike was a 87 ktm 360. And a 97 ktm 620 which was to big for my woods ridding.
@Danger_mouse3 жыл бұрын
You are correct, you won't need to remove the flywheel to change the screws. Just take note of the ammendment where I quoted the wrong torque in the video. Torque for the screws should be 15Nm max, not 25Nm 👌

Hi Bailey, The stator (alternator) is to charge the battery. The bike will run, but just off the battery alone. Once the battery is flat it will stop. The stator kits are becoming difficult to buy as the screws often fall out of the flywheel and damage them. (Which is what this video is about) If you can find a replacement stator unit somewhere, then the bike will be a good thing, if not its isn't much use to anyone 😏

Hey DM, can you do this with the engine in the bike? Also, my '12 te511 has under 15 hours on it, should I strip and torque them? -Ryan
@Danger_mouse7 жыл бұрын
MrRopcean Hi there, Yes you can do stator work with the engine in the bike. 👍 I had my motor out in the video to fit my new piston. My stator failed just before taking off the road to do the top end. I'd probably say your bike should be safe until at least 50hrs. If you choose to fit the better cap screws, then I'd do it then.

Is there stators still available? Obviously, there is no luck in Canada that I can find. one outfit in the UK will rewind them. CCM might be an option. Thoughts?
@Danger_mouse7 жыл бұрын
MrRopcean Most people seem to use Bill's Cycles in the USA. I used them once too when the Aussie dollar was high against the greenback. There is also AOMX online store, and lots of us order from a store in the Netherlands called Husqy Parts online. 👍 Last time someone needed a stator they were able to supply, and that is where I got my one for the video. The G450X stator fits after having the key way opened up to suit the Husky size larger key. Not sure which stator the CCM GP450 has, but I suspect it will be as per BMW as they use the same low power engine and cable clutch. All that said, it should never be an issue provided the bolts are monitored and torqued. 👍

Dangermouse Thanks again. Husqyparts and AMOC both have them in stock. I am going to find some high grade bolts to insert for the old ones like you've done. Cheers mate.

Got bored here in the winter, pulled the bolts, cleaned as best I could and loctite'd the flywheel screws. They were quite easy to remove which made my stomach drop a bit. I got 4/6 torqued to 25 nM. The other 2 wouldn't go, the Allen key was starting to strip, so I left them. They should be ok I'm guessing, ,much tighter than the stock placement. Bike is running good. Thoughts?

@@beezhivesandhoney5386 No it doesn't, but you do need to take very good care of the tip of the crank. It is hollow and this is the oil path to the crank and big end bearings. The original puller had a cap that sat over the tip during pulling. Also the flywheel is bonded to the crank with loctite and needs 70-80°C to release the bond while pulling
