No expanding foam used between panels and spines and panels and wall plates (like everyone else uses)...?

Hello Martin Some companies do screw all joints rather than nail and adhesive but we, too, switched last year to nail and glue.

Yes I thought sealant had to go between each spline and panel! Also screwed or nailed every 30cm!?

Hello Martin, adding a glue or expanding foam would be further beneficial to the air-tightness - particularly if you were looking to reach Passiv standards for example. However, is is not a required stage of the panel installation so is not done on every single project.

@@lowegroup2091 I think in addition to airtightness, expanding foam makes the joint more structurally sound as panels are bonded more strongly

I thought you were supposed to use a special glue in between panels or this is not a must just a choice?

Hi,could I build a two storey extension with these panels? And how would that work? Taller side panels, or the same sides with another set on top?Thanks
@lowegroup20915 жыл бұрын
Hello Dan, you would usually add floor joists over the GF Panels and then build a second set (FF) off of the joisted deck.
@terrybrampton43623 жыл бұрын
did,t see one of them with a level, no foam, just a cordless screwing timber ? so on
@lowegroup20913 жыл бұрын
Hello Terry, The panels were all lchecked for level and plumb before we proceeded to add the roof. The video was created to highlight the specifics of the SIP installation so we have naturally focussed on the panel install and connections. You will note that the DPC, soleplates and bottom rail timbers are in postion already, so they are also not shown in the video. Adding a glue or expanding foam would be further beneficial to the air-tightness - particularly if you were looking to reach Passiv standards for example. However, is is not a required stage of the panel installation so is not done on every single project.

That foundation will cause massive issues. Warm sip walls + cold foundation blocks = condensation. That extension will fail in a few years. The condensation will soak up the osb behind the cladding. Sips need a insulated foundation to avoid this. When I had a quote from kingsman tek in 2014 the denied there was a issue with their standard foundation detail. They have now changed it due to the issue I highlighted to them.

im building timber frame on top of engineered bricks, do not want to screw onto dpc. i dont know how these guys did it. any idea how damp proof timber frame from brick or concrete foundation? thanks
@kevinkeelan3544 жыл бұрын
Bashir Abdullazade you will need a dpc. You could lay it with in the course of engineered bricks. The most important factor is insulating the foundation to prevent condensation at the sole plate. Even in a hot climate. Cold mornings and a hot rising sun will cause condensation.
@bashirabdullazade64744 жыл бұрын
Kevin Keelan I lay engineered bricks, dpc on top then sole plate? And screw through sole plate to bricks, but dpc will be pierced with screws, what’s point of having a dpc then ?
@kevinkeelan3544 жыл бұрын
Bashir Abdullazade block, dpc, block then soleplate.
@lowegroup20913 жыл бұрын
Hello Kevin, This has not been an issue in any of our builds, and the extension in the video has already now been stood for a few years. There are, of course, additional membranes and cavities to come into the equation, which are not show in the video. Please feel free to send us your detail however and we will be happy to review it.

Hi what other external wall coverings can be used ? Thanks
@lowegroup20914 жыл бұрын
There isnt really a limit to what can be used externally. A breathable membrane is usually fixed to the outside face of the SIP and then a cavity before brickwork, or battens and a cladding material. Weather resistance and fire protection regulations will dictate a suitable cladding, just as with any building really.
