The College Board just released a major Coronavirus Update regarding AP exams. I'm joined by John Moscatiello, Founder and CEO of Marco Learning, who is up to speed on the changes. I'm a tutor for kids at elite private high schools in NYC. I just want to say that I've gotten several offers for A LOT of money to take these exams for the students since the security seems to be very relaxed. Because there is no webcam required, many people (trust me, MANY) will get someone to take this test for them. I know that NYC high schools are very different from most of the country but I guarantee you that these AP test grades will depend on if you're rich enough to hire someone. If I'm getting offers of over $10k, I know there are people paying more. And 45 minutes?! seriously?! horrible.

Aditri Patil yes the exam curves so if the 60% of the scores are extremely high the standards will be raised and the people who would normally have gotten a 4 will get a 3 or 2. That’s why people shouldn’t be cheating

​@@nirv2796 well you would think so but you'd be wrong. I was the least surprised person when the college admissions scandal came out, you don't even know how far it goes and what students do. I would say 90% of my students have had their doctor write them a letter saying that they need extra time on the SAT/ACT and AP tests, even when there's absolutely nothing wrong with them. anyways, just going to an elite private school doesn't make you smart, many of these kids have parents that pay a lot of money (I'm talking $250k donations PER YEAR) for their kids to go to these schools.

@den fenkfn Except your phone isn't pointed at you while you work, or it isn't pointed at your paper. They could require people to jump through certain hoops, but those will be easy to work around, especially if people pay attention to how the test is administered the first date.

I’m also worried about typing. I’m a horrendous typer, and I’m about as slow as a sloth due to muscle spasms within my left hand. With that said, 45 minutes is going to screw me over completely since it’s solely free response. Big F

I reckon it'll be a whole bunch of LEQ's covering each period - but you'll only choose from one. Makes the most most sense to me!

@Dave Patel DBQ's are one hour long. Even before the test was reformed they were 55 minutes. They can't fit a full length DBQ into a 45-minute time window without modifying the structure and the rubric.

Our teacher is crazy on top of us. 1-2 weeks per a unit. And I just finished notes on chapter 29. But now I can’t submit them b/c they got taken off the exam! :/ now we have a 3 week study period before the exam.

The idea that the hours of work would be "wasted" is predicated on the idea that the exam is the be-all, end-all. I hope my students value what they learned regardless of what happens with the exam.

From what I've read, the exam will only cover Units 1-7, which is everything up to 1914, so WW1 shouldn't be covered

AP Physics C exams are only an hour and a half long and the FRQ section is only 45 minutes long. I figure all exams will look similar to the AP Physics C FRQs

harman gill simply talk to your AP coordinator at your school. If you don’t know who this is go to your schools office and ask, it’s the person who deals with all your school AP test payments and such. They will be obligated to give a full refund as long as it’s done before test day

I'm taking calculus which I know I'm gonna fail, and I already have dual credit for my AP government and AP lit test. I would fail those as well since I'm an idiot

We didn't choose for this to happen. I know that I can't speak for everyone that is taking it this year, but personally i would much rather take the full exams. Having such a short test means that it going to be pretty tough to get a great score, seeing as there isn't much room for error.

This is certainly not a good situation for us students. The almost guaranteed cheating will mess up the curve terribly and result in what would have been a score of 4 being a 3 or even 2. Instead of having multiple choice to balance out your score, it relies solely on free response (probably only one given the short time)
