Because of the pandemic, AP Tests got cancelled. However, I was taking AP Computer Science Principles, and the way that class works is you have this project at the end of first and second semester, and both count towards your AP Test scores, too. However, with Corona, they made it so the AP Test score is simply from the 2 projects. Now, these projects were also turned in class and graded by our teacher as part of our grade for the actual class as well as being turned in for the AP Exam. I got an A on both of the projects by my teacher. AP Exam Score: 2. Fucking 2. When I followed all the directions, met all the requirements, and did extra on both projects. And they didn't give any sort of explanation. Absolute fucking bullshit.

I took only one ap exam because I plan on doing IB my junior and senior years (I am not in the USA). That AP exam was AP Seminar, and for those of you who have taken it, you will know the exam has a decent amount of writing. So on with the story, I ride my bike to school, and on this particular day (day of the examination), it had just rained the night before so the road was wet, and I had to swerve because someone was approaching me. Because of this I fell and broke my arm as well as my tooth, I got up and tried to collect myself, I had considered turning back and going home to address my injuries. but I realized I needed to inform my teacher that I need to take the exam at another time, so I dragged myself and my broken bike to school with my ears buzzing and unable to see clearly. I made it to school and took a minute to straighten myself, and walked up to the teacher in charge of the exam and told him about my injuries, and he could visibly see my broken tooth. He told me I wouldn't be getting my money back if I did not take the exam, and it was too late for me to go to the nurse because the exam was going to begin in 2 minutes. so I walked in, picked up my pen with my broken right arm, and wrote for 90 minutes through unbearable pain. By the end, I was on the verge of passing out. I then went to the doctor's and was all healed after a month. the exam was 50% of the grade, and in the course, I scored a 3. among my A's, this 3 was the proudest grade I ever earned.

@lucasl86892 жыл бұрын
Also, because dual-credit / dual-enrollment courses are regular college courses, the amount of material you have to cover is often a lot less. When I took AP Bio (shit, that was ages ago now), it actually covered the equivalent of 4 semesters within only 2 semesters, with a comprehensive exam. It was impossible for the teacher to cover everything within that timespan, and teachers always carried the brunt of the responsibility for trying to guess what parts to cover. The likelihood was that you'd have to choose from essay questions that were never taught. Then the university I went to didn't accept AP Bio scores at all. Which really sucks after getting decent scores after taking the AP exam immediately after returning to school after pneumonia. I ended up having 4 semesters of Bio where I didn't have to study at all because I still had all of that from AP Bio, though.

@bloopletank24912 жыл бұрын
Do you have advanced/honors courses or like a baseline that matches our advance or medium advanced courses? I'm not gonna lie, I live in the US and only now did I realize how weak our education is. Comparatively to people my own age I've always been the best at mathematics by far, and am 3 years ahead of my peers in highschool as a sophomore, but I was still stunned by the content of our MCAS (which is like the mandated exam for students all over the state of Massachusetts, which is ranked highest in education in the US last time I checked). This was the mathematics test that would be determining whether or not we would be capable of graduating and is able to be taken up to 3 times, yet all it was was basic algebra, estimation and a little geometry. I had heard from some of my peers about how they said their brains felt fried after that, and it's making me wonder why schools seem to place mathematics levels below that of English language arts. For me the AP exam for calculus was free, and I actually found it respectable in terms of difficulty, and somewhat fun for the challenge that it posed. It felt like a proper test for determining what a student is capable of aside from the time restraints putting a focus on speed, but I hate knowing that very few students will actually be held to a test of such a level. I hope it's much better in Europe.

Idk about cheaper, plus you have to deal with matriculation agreements when trying to get your college credit transferred. @@ocpopsmoke honestly that’s gonna depend on your school/teachers. AP classes have college board which is the organization that determines the curriculum for AP classes/makes the tests so they’re all pretty similar from school to school. Sometimes they teach the exact same concepts, you just don’t have the rigor in assignments and exams that an AP class would because AP is meant to mimic a college class. Sometimes there’s more writing in an AP class since the AP tests have written sections. My High School was a College Prep HS so no students payed for any thing and was told that we could also work on something with the school with taking another AP exam that the school didn’t offer a class for. They just wanted people who really wanted to take the classes. But coming from someone who took one in my 11th grade year and 4 on my senior year, only 1 would of matter for my major (CS BS) so I stressed my life in 11th grades with a class I didn’t need to take (and while trying to prepare for my SAT) (and in the end getting a 2 on the AP and getting a “meh” on my SAT) and then 12th grade, stressed about my 4 AP (with other issues regarding one class cause the teacher was pregnant and left for 4 months and then tried to cramp everything) with then the test prep of how the test would be formatted being thrown out the window due to COVID interrupting my year and CB trying to scramble around on how to work with the issue, coming to the online route (which is another issue to go off on). For majority of the people I known getting 1s and 2s (with me included). So I’m the end I stressed myself for 2 years for no reason cause it wasn’t even going to help that much anyway. 😐😫😮💨

It depends on the state and college. In Texas, the state school system forces every accredited university to provide some sort of credit for scores of 3 and above, with a full 5 usually allowing that entire college course to be skipped. Also, in Texas, colleges are forced to accept students based on GPA. For instance, UT usually accepts the top 7% of a graduating class (with certain caveats). Because AP courses are ranked on a 5.0 scale, taking AP courses is required for a "perfect" GPA.

Nah, AP test fees are still exploitative. This is ignoring the fact that you can pay for college classes with scholarships and loans. Also you can be on a payment plan that lets you pay for things in increments, so you can work and save. You need to pay for AP Exams out of pocket before you can even graduate. Also, a lot of students are still poor in high school... And those students should have need-based and merit-based aid regardless of where their credit is coming from, but high schools don't give them ANY.

I’m glad that my school doesn’t have many AP classes. Instead they do a thing called dual-enrollment where you can take community college classes at the school and get both high-school credits and college credits from the community college at the same time. While it is about the same price as a AP test, dual enrollment was so much better because the classes were much easier than AP classes, you got credit based on your grade spread out through a whole semester/year rather than on one single test, and credits transferred much easier (at least in-state) to other colleges since you were seen as just a transfer student from a community college. Some people, including myself, were even able to get an associates degree while still in high school.

If you're concerned about the price, think of it this way. You're taking a college level class for free which would normally cost way more at an actual college for the chance to pass the test and get the credit while saving money. Even if the test is $115, that's all you're paying for. If I'm wrong correct me, but I don't think enrolling in an AP course costs money, just signing up for the test. And if that's true, if you get the credit you'll still be saving a ton of money. AP classes aren't meant to be easy, *they're college-level classes,* and if you work hard, you'll be rewarded with getting the same credit for a lot cheaper. You aren't required to do AP classes or take the tests, that's your own choice. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I'm done.

Some (low tier) CA state universities don’t have policies limiting the amount of AP Credits you bring so you can get 6+ per exam and get senior registration priority during your freshman year as well as knock off 80% of GE requirements. In Illinois they had to mandate a law stating that all colleges were required to give SOMETHING for 3s and above. Some colleges just sort of maliciously complied with that by offering nebulous credit but not for a useful course. I have to sign up for the SAT and the ACT before the end of the month and I can barely book a dentist appointment….. why is it that we have to make life changing decisions when some of us can’t even drive yet? why are we forced to grow up so fast and all of a sudden. I can’t even cook myself a proper meal yet but you want me to decide my whole life path? at this point I don’t even see a realistic future for myself. I can’t imagine any of my dreams coming true and I’m too lazy to do anything about it. Social media has given me a false sense of reality. I don’t know if any of my emotions are real or if I’m just faking them for attention. Nobody is working anymore and places are shutting down because they can no longer handle being constantly understaffed. This is the beginning of my life but I can’t see any of my life happening. After high school I don’t know if I will have a reason to get out of bed. My aunt told me today to stop living in the past and look towards the future. I can’t see myself even alive after graduation. I’m gonna end up lonely and depressed and homeless because I want to get away from my parents but am too fucking lazy to even make a living. I need to get off of social media. I need to get a job. I need to get money. I need to get out of here. I need to get out of my head. What the fuck is happening to me. Goodbye I’ll see you in five years if I’m still alive and update you. I hope you do well in the meantime.

God, the early registration in November really screwed me over my senior year. I was at a boarding school my first semester and had no idea about the early registration, and I wasn't expecting to find myself in any AP classes until I came back home for my second semester. I didn't really *want* to be in those classes, but I was semi forced to take them. Regardless, I tried registering for the exam, but they said it was too late for me to register. And I couldn't ever sign into my College Board account, and I got little to no help from my teachers or CB staff. I was essentially told I couldn't take the exams and that was final. Funny enough, the pandemic hit during that second semester. My teachers said I wasn't required to go to class anymore, since I wasn't going to take the test and all they were going to focus on for the rest of the year was test prep, so I was dismissed early. Luckily I got a refund for my tests since I couldn't actually take them. (At least... I *think* I got refunded...)

Assuming you can score high enough that the scores will be accepted, or accepted at all, then of course it's absolutely worth it. But like he said, it's not the same everywhere. The community college I looked at for example wanted a 5 on the exams for the AP econ courses. They were going to make me retake those courses even though I didn't need to, but luckily I found a university that I liked, offered a great deal, and accepted 4's on most of their exams. Not everyone will have the same situation as me though, community college may be their only option and they just ended up wasting money on the exam because the college doesn't accept 5's, even if their knowledge of the material is sufficient.

I would say theres some conditions that need to be met before actually deciding to take AP courses (took APHG, APWH, APES, APPsy, APUSGov, APMacro, and APPhys 1, currently Vocal Performance major) If you get signed up in eighth grade to take an AP course(s) for the following year, ask as many questions as possible about your school district and how they handle "specialized" courses like AP, IB, Dual Credit, etc. In my case, my county in SC actually subsidizes the AP tests, so I've never had to pay more than the standard expenses like hand sanitizer donations, clean wipes, pencils, pens, notebooks, and so on. If your school also doesn't offer IB or Dual Credit, but the colleges you're looking at have favorable credit scores, then it's good to shoot for that 3 or higher. I've managed to knock off a ton of electives at my school to where I only take music courses and 1-2 core classes a semester instead of 3-4, which would put my class load at something like 15 distinct classes a semester until my Junior Spring term or Senior Fall term. I now take 9-12 courses over each semester, which i'll absolutely take any day compared to the former scenario. Chosing to take AP also is based on your morals whenever you sign up. Obviously for some, you're starting when you're around 14-15 so your moral code isn't exactly there yet, so you may see no problem with College Board on it's surface. I didn't know how bad College Board was until I took my senior exams online, in which all the information about the scummy things College Board constantly does in it's monopolization of the college entrance exam sector, poor care of it's disabled test takers, pocketing of funds in a so-called "non-profit" organization, it's inherent racist/biased testing, and general lack of care for it's test taking students. If you think these are okay for College Board to do, or see it as a necessary evil to support this organization in order to get a foothold in the college/uni you're looking at, then by all means. Personally, I would never recommend taking any College Board exam if you have other options. Dual Credit courses are honestly much better than AP, and I wish my school had it whenever I was going through (they eventually added Dual Credit courses... the year after I left for college lmao). IB is something I know little about, other than it's an international test whereas AP is much more North American-centric, so I can't vouch for IB courses as confidently as I can with Dual Credit. If I had to give any recommendation though, I would absolutely say take the ACT over the SAT to avoid the College Board, and take Dual Credit if at all possible. Honestly colleges don't really care if you're try-harding these difficult built-for-the-test courses unless you're going to some upscale school like MIT or Stanford. If your goal in life is to do video production and you want to major in Communications, literally B- average grades and an average ACT score will do you just fine if you have the money to pay. I knew my family was broke as shit and was already opposed to me going to college, so I just took the mental bullet and sucked it up for 4 years to save me $36k out of the $40k tuition and fees my college sends out. Sorta taking the effects of that now, but at least I'm only minorly breaking the bank and able to use subsidized loans instead of taking anything out from private lenders or taking out unsubsidized loans.

The Price tag is his first. So its important to understand that the $900 is very pricey but that's not the main point. Taking an AP Exam is completely optional. You can get the same amount of credit for free in high school if you attend free college classes. But the advantage to this is its less time consuming at the cost of a fee. The want the colleges to stay at a lower price to entice more people to start to attend the college full time, they can get you to buy school items, etc. About the enrolling super early, the point of it is to know how many copies need printed. Due to the larger amount of people decieding to take said exam the more time they need to print and proofread. About the USC only takes a maxium of 32 points, its super simple. You can study for a test and memorise matterial and forget said matieral in about a week. These test don't fully show knoldege just the ability to spew memorization

I had 2 APs in Macro and Microeconomics and undergoing to learn 4 other APs, whose cost will be around $700, and all of them can be transferred to 19 credits, aka = 1 semester. But one semester tutor fees in the US university COST around $20.000, making taking the APs to save money and time becoming a reasonable choice.
