According to a lot of legend players Bird was the boogeyman that gave them nightmares. A dude that played fast pitch softball with my dad in the 1970s when men's softball was a pretty big deal. Guy was a Gonzaga great from the 1960s, got me an intro to John Stockton in the late 1980s. I asked him who was funner to play against, Bird or Magic, he just smirked and said they were both nasty, Magic just did it with a big smile on his face.

I am so grateful I was able to follow him and watch him play for his entire career. What made Bird and most the other legendary players so rememberable. They all prioritized winning over anything else. They didn't need to light up the box score or hit a buzzer beater. Just so they could have the spotlight in. There's only 2 players. I knew if that if my team was up by 2 points. With even a few seconds left on the clock. With the other team in possession of the ball. That game was over with, my team is going to lose. There's nothing we could do to stop it. Those two players are Larry Bird and Robert Horry. Robert Horry, in my opinion, is the best role player of all time. With 7 NBA championships Horry won. That backs up my claim.

Much like the guy who admitted he used to pray to the poster which is already I've of my favourite stories. I will never ever tire of hearing Larry Bird stories. The gentlemen who shared the story of how Larry made him earn respect from everyone by earning his stripes is also just another fantastic example of the respect he really does deserve. Consider your self lucky you were able to see any of Larry. I was born in 78 in a tiny country town in Australia. The Jordan juggernaut helped me gain a love for basketball through playing the game. I was never great, something that's expected of you, because people here think that I'm tall when I maxed out 6'4. But I never ever wanted to come off the court when I played. Something happened on the basketball court that never happened when I played Aussie rules, that was that I always wanted the ball and for some reason never seemed to get gassed, and I definitely ran hard both ways. Thank you to the American guys from Alice Springs who taught me how to hustle and crash the boards. Thank you for your work in bringing me the videos and stories that I would never have been able to see if I didn't live in a world with KZbin.

So I asked my father "Is Larry Bird really a good player?" And my father who to this day was the most BRILLIANT man I EVER encountered! Responded as tho I asked him the meaning of life lol. Like the answer was just to enormous for words n said, "Oh yes!" Well looking back on that I was kind of upset that he didn't emphasize it more emphatically 4 me to pay more attention sooner than close to his retirement. I felt like i missed out on a lot. But thx to ppl like u i again get reminded I can still watch him today! And wat a treat it is! thank u

Great reaction, sir. Yes, I got to see Larry Legend play. Boston Garden was only about an hour's drive from where I grew up in Mass. He was everything the basketball gurus say, and more. Simply a magician on the court~ like he had eyes in the back of his head, and he could see two plays ahead of everyone else. It was like an artist painting his masterpiece nearly every time he stepped onto the boards (before injuries started taking a toll on his performance). My favorite Larry Bird highlight reels are the ones of his passing game~ they best illustrate what I'm talking about. Court vision and IQ off the charts. I love Michael Cooper's response to Larry's statements about Cooper being the best player to ever guard him~ what a humble, class act, giving credit to his teammates. Mad respect for both Larry and Cooper. 💚🍀🍀🍀

I was born in 1961, graduated from Lordsburg High School in 1979. Lordsburg, NM is a very small town of about 5000 people located on the “boot heel “ of New Mexico. I played varsity Basketball my Senior year, I was attending New Mexico State University in the fall of 1979. NMSU was in the Missouri Valley Conference that year along with Indiana State. NMSU finished second in the conference that year , behind Larry Bird and Indiana State. Larry Bird was my favorite player. Indiana State played at NMSU that February and won. I think it was that game where Mr. Bird chased a loose ball and ended up in the crowd and some fool hit him with a rolled up program! Mr. Bird punched him in the face! It turned out to be a guy from Lordsburg! He was seen around town with a nice shiner, well deserved I might add! Lol. NMSU lost to Weber St in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Larry Bird and Indiana State went on to play for the Championship against Magic and Michigan State.

Earned a sub with this. Bird still is, and probably always will be, in my top 3 all time, idc. Its Bron, MJ, Bird in whatever order you wanna put them in, idc. His skills, play style, and ridiculous confidence could truly transcend eras. Bird during his 5 year peak would be atleast a top 5 player in the league maybe even top 3 or the best if you stick him in ANY era you want to, from the 50s to right now in 2024. Also wanna point out he's one of the few oldhead/OGs who don't make a personality outta shitting on current players and the current league in general. He actively praises young modern players and talks all day about how he loves the current state of the league/game. Bro is just as big of a fan of Bron, Steph, and Jokic as he was a fan of Jordan and his own teammates/competitors (specifically bro has talked immensely about how much he loved prime Klay Thompson's game in interviews, just for example) For some reason thats really hard for oldheads and legends to do. And you would expect the opposite from such a legendary shit talker, youd almost expect him to be one of those clown ass dudes who swears that like Lebron wouldn't be good BaCk In ThEiR DaY for example. Nah, instead hes quick to hype the current league and stars. Its wild to me. Larry is TRULY just a fan of good hoops above all else. Top 3 for me, idc.

Sean David, I love your appreciation for the great players like Larry and Magic and all the rest. I really appreciate the biographies you put together on these guys. I feel you when you express how you wish you could have experienced the Magic-Bird rivalry in its prime. I grew up in a small town in SE Ohio, born in 1971. For various reasons I grew up loving Dr. J. He was my idol when I was a kid. He was physically amazing and exuded a certain class and aura that was almost indescribable. Every kid in our neighborhood talked about him probably more than any other player at the time. Conversely, I detested the Celtics and Larry Bird. As Dr. J. and Philly struggled to get to championships, it was always Larry and company that would dash our dreams. The reason I hated him so much was because of how dangerous he was to the Sixers and their playoff chances. Just like Magic said years later, Larry was the guy he feared most. So, many years later, as I've realized more about life and sports, I readily admit that Larry was just great, and there is no denying it. This was a great highlight reel of Larry's legend. Please keep up the great work. If I could ask a huge favor or you. Please take a moment to examine the careers of two other great players from the same era. Sidney Moncrief and Andrew Toney. You may have already done this, but if you have not, please look into their careers. Andrew Toney could have been one of the best ever. And Moncrief was incredible. Like us against the Celtics, he and his team could just never get past the Sixers in the playoffs. Thank you for all the great biographical videos on the legends of the NBA. *I just did a quick search and it looks like you've already done one on Andrew Toney. I'm just about to check it out. I'll keep a lookout for Moncrief too. Thank you!

Thank you BTM, love these vids, takes me back! Been a die hard Blazer fan since the Drexler era, hated all the other greats back then (but had to have the latest Jordans as a middle and high schooler haha!) but now I just love to reminisce and be greatful that I got to watch some of the best of the best play the game. History might say the talent today is better, might be so, but we all have a special place in our fandom for the greats we grew up with :)

All thru the years of great players in the NBA.. ..LARRY BIRD WAS AND IS ICONIC..when he is on the court.. your chances of winning is greater if he is on the court. And management shouldnt trade a great player.. He is hands down ,, one of the greatest player ever.
