I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzbin.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

Wow, I am a female that purchased smaller size tools, 2 different chainsaws, etc. Due to my husband passed away last year his tools were too large. My little saws started cutting like a table knife trying to cut a steak. I called Stil explained what I had and they sent me the sharpener with the P. You explained what the P on the size was. You were the most informative, teeth go TWO different ways kind of on an angle🤦 Thank you, your video had information others did not even address. Also the chips vs powder. I was working in full powder..🤦 Thank you👍

Very recently I “found” this sharpener at the local hardware store. Thought it was a rather expensive gimmick at $45.00. You proved me wrong, so now I will buy one. A commenter mentioned that the flat file files the top portion of the chain at the same time as it hits the tooth. I wish you had commented on that because you did an excellent job of producing this video. Thank you! I just subscribed.

If u do want to play with hand filing as u can do custom filing for certain situations. Another good video guy to watch on hand filing (his knowledge is quite high he lives this stuff for years) not to step on ur channels toes. Bucking Billy Ray has many videos on hand filing, on why/what ur doing and gets u in there while he doing it. I thought i was good till i watched him and he taught me all kinds of new stuff. And im not one to pass on shared knowledge and then go experience it.

Yellow and green only talk about the safety low kick back next to the raker. U can have full chisel yellow or green and semi chisel yellow or green. Awesome video, quick question does it matter what side of the sharpener you use, if you turn it to the angle correctly, i feel like am missing something as mine doesn't glide as easily, and i still seem to be getting mostly dust even though i can see i've got some of the material off the chain off.
@TKCL
@TKCL 4 жыл бұрын
It absolutely does, if you look at the sharpener there is a arrow on the side that should be up and pointing away from you. Also the plastic is at a specific angle that should line up with your bar when held at the proper angle. I'm guessing that's somewhere around 35-45 degrees instead of going directly away from the bar. If this doesn't make sense ill make a video showing it. First stroke or two is usually rough, then it smooths up. Metal dust is normal for me.
@88omarz
@88omarz 4 жыл бұрын
@@TKCL i'll try it again makes sense the few first strokes seemed like i was damaging the chain so i stopped.Gonna go try it now
@TKCL
@TKCL 4 жыл бұрын
If the chain is really dull, as in making saw dust instead of chips, I sharpen 5 strokes per tooth. Also don't put a lot of pressure forcing the sharpener into the tooth. Smooth strokes work well for me. But if really dull, it always catches the first couple of strokes. Don't forget some slight down pressure so the flat file takes a little bit of metal off of the rakers or depth gauges.

@@TKCL Thanks. Indicated wrong number of the model. Is a CS-400. Has a 3/8" pitch. Will look to see if there's a sharpener for that pitch.

Keep in mind there is a 3/8 Pico chain for smaller cc saws and a regular 3/8 for large saws. I have both, a big difference in file size.

Don’t bother with Amazon. Did you buy your saws from a Stihl dealer? If so, go back to your Stihl dealer and support your dealer and purchase one from them. Always support your local dealer and businesses. Hell Pete it’s only money.

Bought mine from my local stihl dealer,plus now I've got me a farm boss to.and one husqvarna model 440,but the stihl's are really my bread and butter when it comes to using here in my farm.i also bought me a stihl pole saw to.my Remington pole saw was getting to need a new chain on it,I'm not putting down my Remington pole saw now its just that its served me faithfully for many of years.and you are completely right about doing all my business with my local stihl dealer now,because Amazon and ebay are ripoffs and really carry no warranties for what they sell now so thanks for the info now!!!!!

Can't say I disagree. But my dealer is a two hour round trip. I'm not heading all the way back for him to make a couple of buck on a item that costs me 10-15 dollars in gas to get. I bought one from a dealer and one from Amazon when I decided I wanted one for my other saw.

Not sure, if you look on the bar near the saw power head, the chain size is usually stamped in it. My 260 pro takes a. .325 sharpener and chain. There are 3 or 4 different size chains! On that saw you could run two different sizes that I can think of.

@TKCL
@TKCL 3 жыл бұрын
It's usually stamped into the bar near the dogs spikes. I know my ms261 uses a .325 file/chain, but you have to be careful, because you can run two different size chains on that size saw. Just look around on each bar until you find a what size it says. I can't remember for sure, but if you pull the chain out of the bar, it might be stamped on the lower side of the chain.
