The South Korean system is quite interesting when you think about it. A large security deposit with low monthly rent. It gives a sense of security to the landlord/renter and ensures that the tenant doesn't destroy property or leave the space unkempt before moving out. Comparing that to the United States in particular with an abysmal amount of deposit and large rent (or smaller)... There are pros and cons on both sides. Some people don't like to have money tied down without it accumulating interest. On the other hand (correct me if I'm wrong), having a larger deposit may mean that the rent prices would stay the same even if you were to renew your lease contract. 🤔🤔🤔🤔 I really do love the bed by the window and the sofa area as well... So much light in the space to compensate for not having a balcony at that height. But seriously though, I do not understand what architect in their right minds would place an open balcony at more than 8-10 storeys.
@Bhazor3 жыл бұрын
The key money system is great. In theory. Unfortunately there is no enforcement of what "reduced rent" actually means. So you pay a massive deposit but there is no guarantee it will actually result in lower rent. There is also a serious scam problem where a landlord will rent out a dozen apartments and then just vanish with the Key money. Or more sneaky tricks like having the renting company sell itself so that it takes months to find out who even owes the key money. Which is a shame, the high deposit no rent system is fantastic when it works. Letting you invest what you would pay in rent into a deposit for your next apartment.

This appartment looks so cozy, the only thing I would change is having the sofa and table in the kitchen and the bed in that tiny room!
@ilonildea79305 жыл бұрын
am I the only one who isn't comfortable with the kitchen near the bed
@jenniferwang34894 жыл бұрын
THat's what I was thinking. I would rather have the kitchen table and the couch in that room and squeeze the bed into the other separated room. I'm big about keeping my bedroom private. When we moved to Arkansas, my big must-have item was a bathroom that didn't require entry into a bedroom. So many apartments had the bath off the bedroom and I said nope, I don't want people snooping through my private sanctuary on the way to the toilet.
@onlyfoolsfall92494 жыл бұрын
Same i was thinking abt that too. I mean in my case i cooked a lot so i would not put my bed beside the kitchen where the smell could stick to the sheets.
@bengo84024 жыл бұрын
In Korea, I don’t think students cook a lot. Most of the time they just go out to eat since food over there is fairly cheap and is affords for college students.
@xtianroadtrip4 жыл бұрын
me also it would be okay if the small room is her room for privacy and swap the sofa outside where the bed is it kinda wierd that your bed next to the kitchen
@AyakoSapphirePhoenix3 жыл бұрын
Well dont come work in korea because most schools that provide housing provide studios (원룸) with a kitchenette. So your bed would be by your kitchen (along with your bathroom by your bed). Not to alarm you, the apartment my school rented out for me has one window and yellow wallpaper-y floors 🙈

Cool apartment! Love all the light and windows. I like how all these apartments can force someone to be a minimalist. Thanks for the vid. tour. I like how you show everything.

Wow! My last NYC “apartment” went for $1,200. It was literally a large walk-thru closet with a 12’ ceiling. My nephew built me a loft bed with study cubicle beneath it. He knocked out the 18”x12” ventilation louvre to the air shaft, enlarged it, and made push in place frames with a screen and one with sliding plexiglass. I installed battery operated lights. I also kept an illegal single burner hot plate and microwave, and a tiny port-a-pot ordered from a camping supply outlet. I mostly showered at the gym since that was my last stop most days! The real bathroom had to be shared with 12 others and cooking facilities were not available. For a refrigerator I used a six-pack cooler and in winter, put cold items in a bag hooked over the window sill outside. My electric consisted of a thick extension cord that emerged from a gouged out hole under the one locked door, with an eight plug power bar taped to the floor. I lived there in this lovely illegal UES firetrap amongst billion dollar real estate for five years. Did I mention it was on the fourth floor of a six floor building, built in 1880? A real “pre-War flat!” (A friend really had me beat on the pre-war bit. He also lived in a pre-war flat, only his was the American Civil War!) Who says you can’t live in Manhattan? BTW, I also kept illegal pets, four little hermit crabs!
