Awesome podcast. I agree with what Tom said regarding adapters after my recent stay at a hotel with AC chargers that needed repair. Even though it wasn't adapter related, it showed me that dealing with high voltage electricity is no joke. I can't imagine the damage 1000 DC volts would dp to a poorly made adapter. I really hope Kyle can show us the wear on his OEM Tesla CCS adapter. It didn't sound good to hear that it's "charred".

On the point of larger EVs with larger batteries, it’s surely going to hurt electrification. As batteries resources get pricier, hurting future adopters, manufacturer profitability & above all the grids! It’s all good when thinking on the ground. It’s more a policy perspective.

Great to get a discussion with technical details that I suspect is impossible to find elsewhere. I really appreciated your thoughts on CCS1 - NACS adapters. In your next show, might you be able to shed light on the Tesla - Volex licensing announcement? Is licensing required because it will have the Tesla name printed on it, because NACS is an open standard, right? Tom, I think you may need to get some more equipment so you can test the upcoming DCFC adapters.
@BatteriesIncludedPodcast Жыл бұрын
Volex are a long time supplier to Tesla, and all the newcomers to NACS will want to sell their existing customers an adapter, so it makes sense to go to Tesla and ask them to provide that hardware for the OEMs to re-sell (hence the Volex deal). Suspect the OEMs could have gone out to the market and found their own suppliers but, with speed of the essence, seems reasonable to ask Tesla to supply the adapters.

I’m curious, why no discussion of the Fisker event last week? Seems like there is plenty to talk about with their new lineup. I get the feeling EV insiders are really skeptical about the company and don’t want to waste any time on them?
@BatteriesIncludedPodcast Жыл бұрын
We’re supportive of Fisker, and it’s a hard job they have. So let’s hope they succeed. Kyle has driven the Ocean and we can’t wait to see what they do next. With limited time each week we can’t talk about everything and, as you worked out, we made the editorial decision not to spend time on their product day. The Ocean looks promising, but they’ve got to scale and get them to customers. Now isn’t the time to spend on discussing three concepts (some say vaporware, if your being harsh) but let’s hear more about building and delivering the Ocean. We’d love to see that happen.
@StephenColes Жыл бұрын
@@BatteriesIncludedPodcast Got it. I think maybe even spending just 1 min to say something happened, and why it’s not so newsworthy yet, would be really educational on its own. Don’t have to dive into 20 mins on every item, even though I love when you do!

Hi! Anyway to not have comments pop-up non-stop while hosts are talking? I find it rather distracting. There's 2 "data sources" streaming at the same time (comments and hosts speaking). Why not just have comments in a dedicated live comment box as is often practiced on YT that way the viewer can decide whether they want to look at the comments or focus solely on the conversation the hosts are having or if they choose, both. Thanks so much!

I just subscribed. The Lucid Air Sapphire can never be twice the car the Plaid is. The only car beating the Plaid at the Nurburgring is the Jaguar XE Project 8, which came in at 7:21. This is with a "production intent" car. No other sedan is quicker. I'd like to see what the Sapphire will do on the 'Ring. Otherwise, it's just a dragster. It's going to take everything to beat the Plaid being that the thing weighs 5,400 lbs.

I'd like to 2nd Kyle's point of "sell vehicles where people are". Yes, I find the Yukon morally objectionable... but since people will buy it, sell it. I'd rather people bought EV Yukons than gas Yukons.... and the profit margin being there means that manufacturers can build real EV businesses that way.

I hate driving large vehicles. Hate! I don't use that word lightly. That Escalade IQ is just as ridiculous as the ICE version so I'm sure it'll do well, but I could have Jeff Bezos money and I'd never buy one. 😅 The smaller the better for me. If I end up taking delivery of my Fisker Alaska it'll be the largest vehicle I've ever owned by far. 😅😬
